Efficacy and Safety of Penetrating Keratoplasty and Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty in Corneal Macular Dystrophy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Purpose: To compare efficacy and safety for deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) versus penetrating keratoplasty (PK) for macular corneal dystrophy. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) to identify eligible studies reported up to January 2024. Using STATA 17, we reported outcomes as log risk ratios (log RRs) or mean difference (SMD) and confidence intervals (CIs). A p value ≤ 0.05 is considered statistically significant. Results: DALK was superior to PK in terms of BCVA (Hedge's g: -0.32 with 95

Mourning for Silence: Bereavement and Tinnitus-A Perspective.

Tinnitus is defined as the conscious awareness of a tonal or composite noise for which there is no identifiable corresponding external acoustic source, which becomes tinnitus disorder when the phantom sound is associated with suffering and/or disability. There is only limited knowledge about the time course of tinnitus disorder. Bereavement science has identified four different trajectories: resilience, recovery, chronic, and delayed. The question arises whether these four trajectories exist in tinnitus as well if one considers tinnitus as the loss of silence (at will). To verify whether these

Behavioral Neurobiology of Alcohol Addiction: A Decade of Great Challenges, New Hopes, and Hypes.

Over a decade after the first edition of "Behavioral Neurobiology of Alcohol Addiction," this chapter revisits the field at a critical juncture, marked by both persistent challenges and emerging opportunities. We reflect on the translational gap that has stalled the development of new treatments for alcohol use disorder (AUD), despite decades of promising preclinical findings. Particular attention is given to the replicability crisis in animal research, publication biases, and the limited predictive validity of existing models. At the same time, we highlight advances that offer renewed hope, i

Adaptive digital platforms for youth tobacco cessation: a meta-analytic evaluation of web-based behaviour change interventions.

Digital behaviour change interventions delivered through web-adaptive platforms offer novel pathways for tobacco control in youth. However, the longitudinal efficacy of tailored online cessation tools remains underexplored. This meta-analysis evaluates the comparative effectiveness of dynamically tailored web interventions versus passive controls in youth smokers. Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically searched six databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, Embase, SCOPUS, and CINAHL) through January 2024. Seven randomized controlled trials (n = 5660) assessing adaptive web platforms

Global Trends in the Research of Ulcerative Colitis Treatments (2021-2025): A Bibliometric Review.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by mucosal ulceration and inflammation confined to the colonic epithelium. While colonoscopy remains the diagnostic gold standard, fecal calprotectin (FC) is a validated non-invasive biomarker. Therapeutic management encompasses immunosuppressive agents including anti-TNF biologics such as infliximab, vedolizumab, and ustekinumab for severe disease manifestations, whereas mild-to-moderate UC is managed with variable dosing regimens of 5-aminosalicylates administered via oral or rectal routes. This bibliome

A mixed methods systematic review of interprofessional education and collaborative practice in rural healthcare settings.

Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) involves healthcare workers and/or students from at least two professions working alongside patients, to improve the quality of healthcare provided. IPECP implementation in rural areas, however, lags due to limited resources and workforce shortages. This systematic review was undertaken to identify the enablers and barriers to the implementation of IPECP initiatives in rural healthcare settings. The JBI mixed methods review methodology and PRISMA guidelines were followed. Studies included peer-reviewed articles of IPECP initiatives

Acculturation to accumulation? Variation in the income-subjective well-being relationship by language among Latine respondents in the U.S.

Five decades of continuous research have revealed the relationship between income and subjective well-being (SWB) to be complex and multifaceted. Recent studies demonstrate significant variation in the importance of income for well-being across a variety of social contexts. A portion of this work has focused on Latin America, which contains some of the happiest countries in the world despite having relatively low standards of living and prosperity. Explanations for this paradox have usually focused on the role of culture, suggesting that income may be less relevant for shaping well-being in cu

Identities of an embryology journal in a molecular age; or, How Development got its name.

Journals build identities to attract authors and subscribers. Name changes make the stakes explicit. This article explains how the plain Journal of Embryology and Experimental Morphology (JEEM) turned into the glossy Development in 1987. Newly opened archives reveal long-term negotiations that illuminate transformations in periodical publishing and in disciplinary politics. Founded in 1953, JEEM welcomed descriptive as well as experimental research on animal development, but the rise of molecular approaches called into question title and scope. In 1970, the editors refocused on mechanisms of d
