Prenatal exposure to gas stoves, mold, and water damage: Associations with gestational duration and fetal growth in the ECHO cohort.

Epidemiological evidence on prenatal exposure to household environmental factors (gas stoves, mold, and dampness) and adverse birth outcomes remains limited and inconsistent. We examined associations of these exposures with gestational duration and fetal growth in 11,483 mother-infant dyads from 31 sites in the United States Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort. Participants reported presence of a gas stove, mold/mildew (outside the shower/bathtub), and water damage in the home where they lived for the longest duration during their pregnancy (2000-2023). Gestational

ELSO guidelines development: A roadmap.

The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) has progressively transformed its guideline framework to meet the increasing clinical, scientific, and operational demands of modern extracorporeal life support. Since its establishment in 1989, ELSO has supported Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) programs worldwide through education, data reporting, and consensus-building. Recent expansions in ECMO utilization, coupled with rapidly growing evidence, have necessitated a more structured, transparent, and internationally representative approach to guideline development. In 2023, ELSO ex

Facilitators and barriers to medication adherence in systemic lupus erythematosus: a qualitative study in China.

Medication adherence in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) remains suboptimal worldwide due to complex psychosocial and structural barriers. However, few studies have explored clinical experts' perspectives on facilitators and barriers to adherence, particularly within the Chinese healthcare context. This study aimed to explore clinical experts' perspectives on medication adherence among patients with SLE and to identify multidimensional factors influencing adherence. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with clinical experts and transcribed verbatim. Data were analysed using thematic ana

Multidimensional Characteristics of Musculoskeletal Pain and Risk of Falls Among Elderly Adults: The Cross-Sectional Evidence From CHARLS.

OBJECTIVE: Falls are common particularly in elderly people and usually associated with poor prognosis or healing outcomes. Musculoskeletal pain is considered an independent risk factor for falls, by being associated with joint pathology and instability, neuromuscular effects of pain, and changes in cognitive and psychological function. Understanding the relationship between musculoskeletal pain and the risk of falls will help with falls prevention among older adults. METHODS: A nationally representative sample for the Chinese population was derived from the China Health and Retirement Longitu

Current management and treatment of patients with myasthenia gravis in France: A survey of the neurologist's perspective.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a rare autoimmune disease in which immunoglobulin G autoantibodies targeting post-synaptic receptors at neuromuscular junction play a central role. Due to recent therapeutic developments, there is a need to update current guidelines. FILNEMUS (the French network for rare neuromuscular diseases) conducted a survey in neurologists treating patients with MG to better understand the current clinical and therapeutic management of MG and to identify difficulties and unmet needs. The 45-questions survey assessed various aspects of MG management: including characteristics of

A Cross-Sectional Survey of Knowledge, Confidence, and Decision-Making in Acute Stroke in the Era of Anti-Amyloid Therapies.

BACKGROUND: Anti-amyloid therapies (AATs) for Alzheimer's disease complicate emergency stroke care due to the risk of amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), which can mimic acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and increase hemorrhagic risk. We evaluated emergency medicine (EM) providers' (physicians and advanced practice providers) and pharmacists' knowledge, confidence, and clinical decision-making related to AAT-associated ARIA. METHODS: A cross-sectional, web-based survey of EM providers and pharmacists practicing in United States hospital-based emergency care settings between February and A

Developing validity arguments for artificial intelligence-based assessment: Balancing affordances and threats.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to generate, score and interpret educational assessment, yet these applications are being adopted in a largely unregulated environment. This creates a paradox: Whereas AI systems used in clinical care are subject to formal scrutiny for safety, performance and monitoring, AI systems used to inform consequential decisions about learner progression and future clinical practice are not. Existing validity frameworks remain useful but may not fully account for AI-specific threats. METHODS: We conducted a state-of-the-science conceptual r

Evaluating Impacts of Racism in Academic Departments on the Mental Health of Global Majority Students in the Midwest.

Despite increasing racial diversity in higher education in the United States (US), racially minoritized students (i.e., students from the Global Majority; GM) continue to experience stress related to discrimination and structural oppression. Evaluating and addressing racism in higher education across multiple levels (e.g., distal and proximal) is critical to student success. This study tested two complementary approaches to understand associations between departmental racism and GM students' mental health. First, Hatzenbuehler's Psychological Mediation Minority Stress Theory was tested by exam

Current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for peripheral arterial disease in Italy: a survey among vascular specialists of the Italian society of angiology and vascular medicine (SIAPAV) and general practitioners of the Italian federation of general practitioners (FIMMG).

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a widespread and frequently neglected condition, affecting around 245 million people worldwide. Despite its association with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, including myocardial infarction, stroke, and limb amputation, PAD remains poorly recognized, particularly in asymptomatic patients. Although the ankle-brachial index (ABI) is the standard non-invasive method for diagnosing PAD, its utilization remains limited due to insufficient awareness. This study aimed to assess diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to PAD in Italy through a survey
