In tropical and subtropical areas, schistosomiasis may cause anatomic anomalies of the genital organs responsible for permanent or reversible infertility. Furthermore, it has been suggested that this parasitic infection may have adverse consequences on the endocrine system. One hundred and forty cases of pituitary adenoma, treated by surgery plus radiotherapy or radiotherapy alone from 1978 to 1985, were analysed as to the incidence of hypothalamo-pituitary and peripheral target-gland hypofunction after radiotherapy. Female Suffolk sheep were pinealectomized around the vernal equinox to eliminate the major environmental input to the reproductive system (photoperiod) and then either isolated from, or maintained with, pineal-intact gonad-intact sheep. The ewes were ovariectomized and treated with constant-release oestradiol implants and reproductive state was monitored by measuring serum LH concentrations. The South American squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus) typically lives in large social groups containing several individuals of all age/sex categories. When living in established heterosexual pairs, reproduction in this seasonally breeding primate is poor. We attempted to induce breeding activity in pair-housed monkeys by forming new heterosexual pairs just prior to the breeding season. A total of 40 infertile men with a normal physical examination underwent gonadal venography to determine the presence of a subclinical varicocele. Of the patients 19 had a left and 3 had a right subclinical varicocele. The various steps in a urological orchiopexy are described in detail; alignment of an everted testis, funiculolysis, retroperitoneal dissection and medial displacement of the cord. Prolactin secreting adenomas are the most frequently (50%) occurring pituitary adenoma. They occur more commonly in women than in men (4:1). Impairment of gonadal function accounts for the predominant symptoms in both sexes. H-Y antigen was examined in six patients exhibiting the characteristic features of Turner syndrome. Five of the patients were of the karyotype 45,X, and one was a mosaic 45,X/46, Xi(Xq).
