Behavioral interventions related to plastic waste management in low-and middle-income countries: a systematic review using the behavior change wheel and the theoretical domains framework.

Addressing the mounting plastic waste problem requires system-level solutions, along with interventions that promote behavioral change. In low-resource countries, inadequate, if not absent, waste management systems lead to unsafe disposal practices, including open burning. While theory-informed approaches are essential for identifying enablers and barriers to target behavior change, their application is limited in these settings. Given the lack of a theory-driven synthesis of behavioral strategies to address plastic waste, this systematic review aimed to: (1) synthesize behavioral intervention

Cyberchondria-Related Behaviors Among Undergraduate Female Healthcare Students: A Descriptive and Exploratory Study of CSS-12 Dimensions and Demographic Characteristics.

Background: Cyberchondria, characterized by excessive or repeated online searching for health-related information accompanied by heightened health concerns or distress, is an increasingly recognized behavioral phenomenon. Healthcare students represent an important population for investigation due to their frequent exposure to medical information and digital health resources. However, the extent of cyberchondria-related behaviors and their relationship with demographic and academic characteristics remain insufficiently explored in this population. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the le

The correlation between sadomasochists' experience and their sadomasochistic behaviors and fantasies: A qualitative analysis of interviews.

Lacking a comprehensive understanding of sadomasochism makes difficulties in judicial dispositions, clinical interventions, and mental health services. This study explores the correlation between sadomasochists' growth experience and their sadomasochistic behaviors and fantasies. We interviewed 51 sadomasochists from a Chinese subcultural website, coded and analyzed the interview records, conducted correlation and cluster analyses on the reference points of the nodes of impressive experience and sadomasochistic behaviors and fantasies, and constructed the model of Experience-Behaviors and Fant

Timing Matters: How Unconditional Cash Transfer Frequency Shapes Dietary Choices Among Vulnerable Older Adults.

Low-income elderly consumers, often overlooked in studies of public financial assistance programs, may face challenges in managing resources to maintain dietary health. This study examines how the payment frequency of an unconditional cash transfer program impacts dietary behaviors among low-income elderly populations in Colombia. Using nationally representative data from a federal financial assistance program, we implement a Multivalued Treatment Model with Propensity Score Matching and Augmented Inverse Probability Weighting to assess the effects of monthly versus bi-monthly payments on food

A qualitative comparison of care partner experiences supporting self-care of people living with mild cognitive impairment versus mild dementia: Insights from an oral hygiene intervention.

PURPOSE/AIMS: Care partners play a crucial role in supporting people living with mild cognitive impairment (PLwMCI) and mild dementia (PLwMD) in daily tasks and health behaviors. Care partners' experiences may vary depending on the care recipient's degree of cognitive decline. Our objective was to compare the challenges and strategies of care partners supporting PLwMCI versus PLwMD. METHODS: Guided by the Adaptive Leadership Framework for Chronic Illness, we conducted a qualitative directed content analysis of secondary data from audio recordings of coaching sessions led by a nurse in a pilot

Antecedent and consequence of using O2O delivery applications: social anxiety, loneliness, and a moderated mediation model.

Online-to-offline delivery applications (ODAs), which link the mobile Internet to local physical businesses, offer prompt delivery of a wide range of items, including but not limited to food delivery. Frequent use of ODAs can be problematic. While the use of ODAs has been connected to physical health issues (e.g., unhealthy diet and sedentary behavior), its association with mental health concerns (e.g., social anxiety and loneliness) remains insufficiently addressed. Consequently, this study aims to explore the relationships among ODA usage, social anxiety, and loneliness by developing and val

Prenatal influences on postnatal neuroplasticity: Integrating DOHaD and sensitive/critical period frameworks to understand biological embedding in early development.

Early environments can have significant and lasting effects on brain, body, and behavior across the lifecourse. Here, we address current research efforts to understand how experiences impact neurodevelopment with a new perspective integrating two well-known conceptual frameworks - the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) and sensitive/critical period frameworks. Specifically, we consider how prenatal experiences characterized in the DOHaD model impact two key neurobiological mechanisms of sensitive/critical periods for adapting to and learning from the postnatal environment. We

[Recent Progress in Treatments of Pituitary Neuroendocrine Tumors(Pituitary Tumors)].

In the World Health Organization 2022 classification, a nomenclature change from pituitary adenoma to pituitary neuroendocrine tumor(PitNET)was introduced to indicate rare but potentially malignant behavior. No grading system is available for PitNETs; therefore, the establishment of a system that corresponds to their clinical behavior is an urgent issue. Presently, this change has no direct influence on therapeutic strategies. Recently, the therapeutic outcomes of most patients with PitNETs have significantly improved owing to marked advancements in both surgical and medical treatments. The fo

Addressing Substance Use in the Adolescent Transplant Population.

Adolescence is a unique period of physical and psychosocial changes as youth transition, over many years, to adulthood. The psychosocial changes that accompany adolescence include emotional separation from parents, greater influence of peer groups, an interest in self-identification and autonomy, and increased risk-taking behaviors. Substance use is a common form of risk-taking behavior in the adolescent developmental stage. Alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis are the most common types of substances used in the United States. In the adolescent transplant population, rates of substance use appear t

Traditional Male Circumcision is Associated with Sexual Risk Behaviors in Sub-Saharan Countries Prioritized for Male Circumcision.

To understand the sexual risk behavior of men with traditional male circumcision and medical male circumcision in the context of the World Health Organization's (WHO) campaign for voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) scale-up, we investigated ten countries prioritized for the scale-up from the Demographic and Health Surveys. Male respondents aged 15-49 were selected. Ordinal regression was used to analyze the relationship between three sexual risk behaviors-condom use with non-cohabiting partners, number of non-cohabiting partners, and partner type-and circumcision status (traditionally

Brazil's Missing Infants: Zika Risk Changes Reproductive Behavior.

Zika virus epidemics have potential large-scale population effects. Controlled studies of mice and nonhuman primates indicate that Zika affects fecundity, raising concerns about miscarriage in human populations. In regions of Brazil, Zika risk peaked months before residents learned about the epidemic and its relation to congenital anomalies. This spatiotemporal variation supports analysis of both biological effects of Zika infection on fertility and the effects of learning about Zika risk on reproductive behavior. Causal inference techniques used with vital statistics indicate that the epidemi

Knowledge, attitudes and practices (kap) regarding influenza A (H1N1) among a population living along Thai-Myanmar border, Ratchaburi Province, Thailand.

The 2009 influenza A (H1N1) outbreaks in Thailand was successfully controlled, partly through the use of electronic media to educate the public. People living along the Thai-Myanmar border may have less access to this electronic media or might have health beliefs that differ from the general Thai population with potential to impact an influenza outbreak. We conducted a survey to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding influenza among people living along the Thai-Myanmar boder in Ratchaburi Province, Thailand. Of 110 house- holds surveyed, 96% were Karen ethnicity. Greater than

Association of healthy lifestyle and social determinants with depression and anxiety in elderly patients with chronic diseases.

INTRODUCTION: The growing burden of chronic diseases in aging populations has made mental health a pressing public health concern, but the combined contributions of lifestyle and social factors to depression and anxiety in this group are still poorly defined. Mental health is essential for promoting healthy aging and sustaining a good quality of life in later years. However, the influence of healthy lifestyles and social determinants on the mental health of older adults with chronic diseases-whether considered individually or in combination-remains poorly understood. This study investigates th

Associations among maternal lifetime trauma, psychological symptoms in pregnancy, and infant stress reactivity and regulation.

Maternal trauma has intergenerational implications, including worse birth outcomes, altered brain morphology, and poorer mental health. Research investigating intergenerational effects of maternal trauma on infant stress reactivity and regulation is limited. Maternal mental health during pregnancy may be a contributor: psychopathology is a sequela of trauma exposure and predictor of altered self-regulatory capacity in offspring of affected mothers. We assessed associations among maternal lifetime trauma and infant stress responsivity, mediated by psychological symptoms in pregnancy. Mothers re

Obesity, eating behavior and physical activity during COVID-19 lockdown: A study of UK adults.

Eating, physical activity and other weight-related lifestyle behaviors may have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and people with obesity may be disproportionately affected. We examined weight-related behaviors and weight management barriers among UK adults during the COVID-19 social lockdown. During April-May of the 2020 COVID-19 social lockdown, UK adults (N = 2002) completed an online survey including measures relating to physical activity, diet quality, overeating and how mental/physical health had been affected by lockdown. Participants also reported on perceived changes in weight-rela
