We report an association of sacral agenesis and hypopituitarism in a child born of a diabetic mother. The child presented with short stature and evaluation revealed sacral agenesis, growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and adrenal insufficiency. This association might be important as short stature in children with sacral agenesis is usually attributed to mechanical factors. Early detection of GHD and treatment might help the child in gaining height.

BACKGROUND: The positivity ratio (PR) and reaction index (RI) characterize the ability of patch-test preparations to produce strong (++ or +++) reactions as opposed to weak (+), questionable, or irritant reactions.

Thyrotoxicosis might alter the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. We evaluated the effects of ghrelin and GHRP-6 on the HPA axis in 20 hyperthyroid patients and in 9 controls. Mean basal cortisol (microg/dl) and ACTH (pg/ml) levels were higher in hyperthyroidism (cortisol: 10.7 +/- 0.7; ACTH: 21.5 +/- 2.9) compared to controls (cortisol: 8.1 +/- 0.7; ACTH: 13.5 +/- 1.8). A postmenopausal woman presented with hirsutism and elevated serum testosterone levels. A 1-cm adrenal adenoma was noted on computed tomography.
