Viral Infections of the Vulva: A Narrative Review.

Vulvar viral infections such as condyloma acuminata, genital herpes, molluscum contagiosum, and Lipschütz ulcers span both sexually and non-sexually transmitted diseases and affect patients across all age groups. Lesions may present as papules, verrucous growths, or painful ulcers, often causing functional impairment and significant psychosocial distress. A multidisciplinary strategy that integrates epidemiology, precise diagnostics, individualized therapy, and psychological support is essential to optimize outcomes. We performed a structured literature search in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Sci

Prevalence and associated factors of post-tuberculosis lung disease in Sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Post-tuberculosis lung disease (PTLD) is a major public health challenge in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where the burden of tuberculosis (TB) remains high. Only a few studies have reported the global burden of PTLD, and the associated factors of PTLD have been understudied. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence and associated factors of PTLD in SSA. METHODS: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines for systematic review and meta-analysis. We included studies reporting the

"I've been doing this for years": the COVID-19 pandemic and family caregiver isolation and loneliness.

BACKGROUND: Family caregivers are family members or friends of care recipients who assist with activities of daily living, medication management, transportation, and help with finances among other activities. As a result of their caregiving, family caregivers are often considered a population at risk of experiencing increased stress, isolation, and loneliness. During the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, social isolation and decrease in social activities were a top concern among older adults and their family caregivers. Using secondary analysis of survey data as part of a multi-site implementation

A systematic literature review of the epidemiology, quality of life, and economic burden, including disease pathways and treatment patterns of relapsed/refractory classical Hodgkin lymphoma.

INTRODUCTION: A systematic literature review was conducted to understand disease burden in patients with relapsed/refractory classical Hodgkin lymphoma (R/R cHL). AREAS COVERED: Embase®, PubMed®, and Cochrane were searched for records from 2001 to 2020 in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. A total of 13,257 abstracts and 1731 papers were screened; 144 studies were identified. cHL accounted for 0.5% of all cancers, with 4‒66.7% of cases progressing to R/R disease (studies with >500 patients); this range varied across countries. Quality of life (QoL) was assessed via EORTC-QLQ-C30 (n = 7), EQ-5

Are There Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Management and Outcomes of Surgically Treated Distal Radius Fractures?

BACKGROUND: Racial/ethnic disparities have been demonstrated across multiple orthopedic sub-specialties. There is a paucity of literature examining disparities in distal radius fracture (DRF) management. METHODS: Using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database, we analyzed 15 559 non-Hispanic (NH) White, NH Black, NH Asian, and Hispanic adults who underwent open reduction and internal fixation for DRF from 2013 to 2019. We evaluated time from hospital admission to surgery and length of stay using Poisson regression. Deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism (PE), and wound c

Comparison between femoral block and PENG block in femoral neck fractures: A cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Regional analgesia is worth performing in the multimodal postoperative management of hip fracture (HF) because it reduces hospital morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy and side effects of the recently described "Pericapsular Nerve Group (PENG) Block" with those of the femoral block, which is considered the standard of care for postoperative pain control after femoral neck fracture. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a comparative observational study at a university hospital (Saint Antoine Hospital, Sorbonne University, Paris, France), where th

Cognitive Functional Therapy for Disabling Nonspecific Chronic Low Back Pain: Multiple Case-Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Multiple dimensions across the biopsychosocial spectrum are relevant in the management of nonspecific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). Cognitive functional therapy is a behaviorally targeted intervention that combines normalization of movement and abolition of pain behaviors with cognitive reconceptualization of the NSCLBP problem while targeting psychosocial and lifestyle barriers to recovery. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of cognitive functional therapy for people with disabling NSCLBP who were awaiting an appointment with a specialist medi

Management of abnormal uterine bleeding in low- and high-resource settings: consideration of cultural issues.

In non industrialized countries the incidence of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) appears to be similar to that of industrialized countries, although data is scanty. In low-resource settings, women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) often delay seeking medical care because of cultural beliefs that a heavy red menstrual bleed is healthy. Efforts to modify cultural issues are being considered. A detailed history and a meticulous examination are the important foundations of a definitive diagnosis and management in low-resource settings but are subject to time constraints and skill levels of the s

Internet plus-based post-discharge continuity care for mild-to-moderate depression: An exploratory study.

BACKGROUND: Depression is a prevalent global mental health disorder affecting over 300 million individuals, with studies indicating a 34% rise in cases from 2001 to 2020. In China, depression accounts for 3.0% of psychiatric disorders among adolescents, severely impairing patients' quality of life. Despite pharmacological efficacy in acute-phase treatment, post-discharge relapse rates remain high (50% within one year), highlighting the need for effective continuity-of-care interventions. Traditional follow-up models (e.g., outpatient visits or telephone calls) face limitations, including ineff

Nonoperative Management of an Acute Complete Achilles Tendon Rupture With Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Extracellular Vesicles: A Case Report.

An acute complete rupture of the Achilles tendon with a large intertendinous gap is conventionally regarded as a surgical indication, yet operative repair carries a significant burden on wound-healing and potential for neurovascular complications, whereas nonoperative care may be limited by re-rupture and incomplete functional recovery. Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (hUC-MSCs) and their secreted extracellular vesicles (EVs) exert immunomodulatory, pro-angiogenic and pro-tenogenic paracrine effects that could support tendon healing. Socioeconomic inequalities and the economic burden of dental caries: a longitudinal simulation analysis across forty countries.

BACKGROUND: In 2024, World Health Organization (WHO) member states endorsed the Bangkok declaration, prioritising oral diseases within universal health coverage and non-communicable disease agendas, and calling for prevention-oriented, primary care-led systems. This study aimed to: (1) explore the healthcare costs of managing dental caries between the ages of 12 and 65 years across income quintiles in 40 countries, and (2) estimate the potential reduction in direct costs from non-targeted and targeted oral health-promoting interventions. METHODS: A cohort simulation model was developed to est

Clinical management of metachromatic leukodystrophy cases identified in the German and Austrian Newborn screening pilots.

BACKGROUND: Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) is a rapidly progressive leukodystrophy that leads to severe disability and early death if untreated. Autologous hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell gene therapy (HSPC-GT, atidarsagene autotemcel, arsa-cel) for early onset subtypes and allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for late onset disease substantially alters disease progression for early onset disease when administered before symptom onset, creating a strong rationale for newborn screening (NBS). At the same time, NBS technique for MLD in dried blood spots has recentl

Managing dry eye disease in primary Sjögren's syndrome using the chronic care model: a single-group pre-post study.

BACKGROUND: Dry eye is the most prevalent ocular complaint among patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome, manifesting as pronounced eye discomfort and frequently complicated by mental disorders including anxiety and depression. Prior research has demonstrated that the chronic care model improves both clinical indicators and psychological status. This study compared changes in clinical parameters and psychological status in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome following a 24-week chronic disease management intervention. METHODS: This single-group pre-post study was conducted at a tertiary

Digital Storytelling Intervention for Hemoglobin A1c Control Among Hispanic Adults With Type 2 Diabetes: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Hispanic adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are more likely to develop complications and die from the disease than the US general population. Digital storytelling interventions are narrative-based videos elicited through a community-based participatory research approach to surface the authentic voices of participants overcoming obstacles to health-promoting behaviors that perpetuate health inequities; research on the effect of digital storytelling on T2D outcomes among Hispanic adults is lacking. OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of a digital storytelling intervention on glycemic con
