Musculoskeletal pain and its effect on daily activity and behaviour in Icelandic children and youths with juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a cross-sectional case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is characterised by recurring episodes of acute inflammation, with joint swelling in one or more joints, often accompanied by pain. These episodes can now be controlled better than in the past because of a new category of medications. However, despite more stable disease activity, pain may continue to cause problems in the children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and can reduce their performance of routine physical activities and participation in social or school activities. AIM: To evaluate the prevalence of pain, pain intensity, pain behaviour, a

Patient-reported burden of hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis on functioning and well-being.

BACKGROUND: Hereditary transthyretin (hATTR) amyloidosis is a rare, systemic, progressive, and life-threatening disease in which transthyretin proteins misfold and aggregate as insoluble amyloid deposits, disrupting nervous, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and other organ tissues. There are limited available data about the experience of patients living with hATTR amyloidosis. This study used a qualitative, non-interventional design to explore the humanistic burden of hATTR amyloidosis from the patient's perspective. RESULTS: Fourteen adults with hATTR amyloidosis, recruited from a patient advocacy

Pediatric In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest International Registry (PACHIN): protocol for a prospective international multicenter register of cardiac arrest in children.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Cardiac arrest (CA) in children is a major public health problem. Thanks to advances in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines and teaching skills, results in children have improved. However, pediatric CA has a very high mortality. In the treatment of in-hospital CA there are still multiple controversies. The objective of this study is to develop a multicenter and international registry of in-hospital pediatric cardiac arrest including the diversity of management in different clinical and social contexts. Participation in this register will enable the evaluation of

Patients Presenting with Bull-related Injuries to a Southern Indian Emergency Department.

INTRODUCTION: Bull-related injuries are commonly observed in rural areas of India as result of the animal's use in sporting events as well as for agricultural purposes. These patients need early resuscitation due to complications from severe injuries. Previous work examining the epidemiology of bull-related injuries is limited, with most studies focusing on injuries in Spain and Latin America. There is scant literature examining the prevalence of such injuries in India. The objective of this study was to evaluate the demographic and clinical characteristics of bull-related injuries at a hospit

Foveal Therapy in Blue Cone Monochromacy: Predictions of Visual Potential From Artificial Intelligence.

Novel therapeutic approaches for treating inherited retinal degenerations (IRDs) prompt a need to understand which patients with impaired vision have the anatomical potential to gain from participation in a clinical trial. We used supervised machine learning to predict foveal function from foveal structure in blue cone monochromacy (BCM), an X-linked congenital cone photoreceptor dysfunction secondary to mutations in the OPN1LW/OPN1MW gene cluster. BCM patients with either disease-associated large deletion or missense mutations were studied and results compared with those from subjects with ot

Pilot study of the effectiveness of a Mindful Self-Care and Resiliency program for rural doctors in Australia.

OBJECTIVE: Rural doctors are difficult to recruit and retain. Burnout and stress in the medical workforce fluctuates according to location. Overall, doctors have an elevated risk of depression and suicide compared to the general population and other professionals. Higher levels of occupational stress also effect patient care, levels of work satisfaction and relationships with others. This study evaluated the effectiveness, acceptability, feasibility and sustainability of the Mindful Self-Care and Resiliency Program. DESIGN: This was a sequential mixed-method study involving the collection of
