Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that affects primarily women of childbearing age. 20-30 years ago it was common belief that SLE is exacerbated during pregnancy. Recent studies, however, could not support this notion. The likelihood of an increase in clinical activity of SLE is similar during pregnancy and in nonpregnant patients. The determination of amniotic fluid lamellar body number density (LBND) has recently been shown to correlate well with other established indicators of fetal lung maturity. The authors have compared the LBND with a fetal lung phospholipid profile in predicting the clinical outcome in 52 well-documented cases. Membranes from ethanol-fed rats are resistant to the in vitro effects of ethanol on membrane structure and function. We have proposed that the resistance arises from adaptive changes in membrane composition which lower the solubility (partition coefficient) of ethanol in these membranes. Chlorpromazine (CPZ) is a long recognized cause of jaundice, but the mechanism by which this agent produces icteric liver disease is not well defined. This study examined some effects of CPZ administration on bilirubin metabolism and biliary secretion in the rat. A quantitative in vitro assay was employed to directly assess the effect of corticosteroids on the IgG and complement receptor function of human mononuclear phagocytic cells. In this system corticosteroids were solubilized with cholesterol-phospholipid sonicated dispersions before exposure to mononuclear cells. Colorectal cancer (CRC) exhibits altered lipid metabolism associated with therapy resistance. AIMS: Use of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) is limited by increased risk of ketoacidosis. We aimed to determine metabolic pathways affected by SGLT2i treatment in adults with T1D during ketosis induced by insulin withdrawal.
