Anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibodies have gained recognition in recent years for their role in a variety of demyelinating diseases affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. This case report details a rare presentation of anti-MOG-positive acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculitis in a 32-year-old male, where urogenital dysfunction was the initial presenting symptom. His subsequent diagnosis, treatment, and recovery are discussed, contributing to the understanding of the varied manifestations of MOG antibody-related diseases.

Liver and biliary pathology in the neonate are rare and include a broad range of structural, neoplastic, infectious, genetic, and metabolic diseases. While most conditions present postnatally, antenatal detection is increasing given recent advances in antenatal imaging capabilities. In certain structural or obstructive liver diseases, antenatal detection now proves essential to help guide treatment and prevent morbidity. We review the epidemiology, pathophysiology, common antenatal diagnostic findings, and recommendations for surgical liver and biliary pathology in the neonate.

In this paper, a clinical case of combination of chronic myeloid leukemia and T-lymphoblastic lymphoma is present-ed, which is currently a rather rare finding for a clinician. The diagnosis of T-lymphoblastic lymphoma is establishedafter 2 years from the verification of chronic myeloid leukemia. The course of diseases and approaches to treatmentare described. The pathogenetic relationship between myeloid and lymphoid diseases remains unclear and is likely to be the resultof several factors - radiation, chemical and, consequently, genetic disorders.

With the increasing number of asylum seekers in recent months, European dermatologists have been confronted with rising numbers of patients with formerly rare skin diseases and unusual infectious skin diseases that were previously scarcely observed at our latitude. Thorough examination of the patients medical history, including the routes of travel and the country of origin of the patients, detailed clinical and laboratory examinations, and - if necessary - referral to a special treatment center allow rapid and targeted treatment.

Cryptosporidium parvum is an intracellular spore-forming protozoa which predominantly causes intestinal diseases. It causes severe and life-threatening diarrheal diseases in immunocompromised hosts and usually self-limiting disease in immunocompetent hosts. Extra-intestinal manifestations of cryptosporidium infection are very rare. Herein, we report a case of pulmonary cryptosporidiosis in a 35-yrs-old immunocompetent host, who presented with fever, cough and breathlessness which was soon followed by diarrhea and vomiting, had lung consolidation, and treated successfully with nitazoxanide.

Pseudogout, also known as calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease (CPPD) with giant cell reparative granuloma (GCRG) of the temporal bone is a rare disease, which is very easy to misdiagnose. When two diseases occur simultaneously, the pathological tissue of diseases is closely associated, which complicates clinical representation and causes enormous difficulty in diagnosis and treatment. We report a case of CPPD of the temporomandibular joint accompanied by surrounding GCRG of temporal bone in a 62-year-old male.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease characterized by fluctuating muscle weakness, caused by impaired neuromuscular transmission. Patients with MG can present other autoimmune diseases in association, commonly hypo or hyperthyroidism. The association of MG to demyelinating disease is rare and has been described before. We report on three Brazilian patients with MG that presented distinct demyelinating diseases, two monophasic and one recurrent neuromyelitis optica, several years after the diagnosis of MG, and discuss their clinical courses.

Autoimmune diseases are commonly encountered in dermatology practice. While the association of two autoimmune diseases in the same individual is not unknown, it is relatively rare for the second disease to be suspected based on cutaneous manifestations. We present two such cases wherein cutaneous manifestations were the first clue to the development of lupus erythematosus in a setting of autoimmune thyroiditis. Further, we have reviewed literature on this uncommon occurrence and discuss various aspects of this association.

Diffuse fasciitis with eosinophilia (DFE) is a well described syndrome, among the connective tissue disorders. However, DFE is not commonly accepted as an own entity, because of its rare evolvement in scleroderma and the often indistinguishable histological pattern of both diseases. Here we report on the association of DFE and morphea in two patients and an additional lichen sclerosus in one of them. This points to a close relationship of DFE and other connective tissue diseases.

BACKGROUND: Rare variants in the genes IL36RN, CARD14 and AP1S3 have been identified to cause or contribute to pustular skin diseases, primarily generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP).
OBJECTIVES: To better understand the disease relevance of these genes, we screened our cohorts of patients with pustular skin diseases [primarily GPP and palmoplantar pustular psoriasis (PPP)] for coding changes in these three genes. Carriers of single heterozygous IL36RN mutations were screened for a second mutation in IL36RN.
METHODS: Coding exons of IL36RN, CARD14 and AP1S3 were sequenced in 67 patients - 61

BACKGROUND: Prion diseases are a group of rare fatal neurodegenerative disorders in humans and animals that are histopathologically characterized by spongiform change within the central nervous system.
TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED: The author reviewed all available case reports and any studies of the oral aspects of prion diseases published in peer-reviewed journals and available via PubMed. He then outlined the risk of nosocomial transmission of prions in dental health care.
RESULTS: Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, or sCJD, is the most common of the acquired human prion disorders, and it t

Autoinflammatory bone diseases (AIBDs) constitute a recently identified subset of autoinflammatory diseases. These conditions are characterized by an exaggerated inflammatory response in the bones without any apparent etiology. Inflammatory bone lesions associated with AIBDs exhibit chronic inflammation, are typically culture-negative, and do not exhibit discernible microorganisms on histopathological examination. The most common and representative AIBD is chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (CNO), which is also known as chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis. Another variant of CNO, which

INTRODUCTION: Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare systemic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology, which affects young adults and is associated with multiple organ involvement and life-threatening complications. The aim of the study was to establish the incidence and prevalence of AOSD in Poland, and factors related to this disease among hospitalized patients.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective, population-based study was conducted, using data from hospital discharge records compiled by the National Institute of Public Health in 2009-2018.
RESULTS: Based on hospitalization rec

UNLABELLED: Madelung's disease is a rare fat metabolism disorder characterised by benign multiple symmetric, encapsulated lipomatosis. The exact cause of the disease is unknown; it may be associated with chronic alcoholism and mutations in mitochondrial DNA (A8344G), but there have been cases without these factors reported in the literature. A 29-year-old man with a 6-year history of diabetes mellitus was admitted to our hospital for poorly regulated diabetes and decreased libido. He was not an alcohol consumer. His family history was unremarkable. Physical examination revealed that he had a e

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Clinical registries and biorepositories have proven extremely useful in many studies of diseases, especially rare diseases. Given their rarity and diversity, the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, or myositis syndromes, have benefited from individual researchers' collections of cohorts of patients. Major efforts are being made to establish large registries and biorepositories that will allow many additional studies to be performed that were not possible before. Here, we describe the registries developed by investigators and patient support groups that are currently availabl

Behcet's disease is a rare autoimmune systemic vasculitis. It usually presents with a symptom complex involving primarily mucocutaneous lesions, genital lesions, and uveitis. When it involves the lower extremity, venous and arterial disease predominates, and joint involvement occurs in approximately 50% of patients. We present a patient with Behcet's disease who was initially referred to us for chronic toenail pathology.

Gastric xanthelasma is a rarely encountered finding in upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. It is characterised by yellowish-white plaque in the stomach especially in the antrum or the pyloric region. Histologically it consists of foamy macrophages in the lamina propria. It is a benign condition but its appearance mimics malignancy and it is found to be associated with various conditions, some of which are considered premalignant so, histological confirmation is necessary. We present a case of a 44-year-old man who presented to the medicine outpatient department for intermittent pain in epig

Cerebroretinal microangiopathy with calcifications and cysts is a rare entity with progressive calcifications, enhancing subcortical cysts, and leukoencephalopathy. We present the oldest reported woman with this disorder, with 10 years of imaging documenting progression. This reveals (1) more profound white matter involvement than that previously reported and (2) growth and shrinkage of cysts over time, which may suggest a more complex pathogenesis than that previously theorized.

Inherited retinal dystrophies and retinal degenerations related to more common diseases (i.e., age-related macular dystrophy) are a major issue and one of the main causes of low vision in pediatric and elderly age groups. Advancement and understanding in molecular biology and the possibilities raised by gene-editing techniques opened a new era for clinicians and patients due to feasible possibilities of treating disabling diseases and the reduction in their complications burden. The scope of this review is to focus on the state-of-the-art in somatic cell therapy medicinal products as the basis
