Exploring the effects of compressing and aging processes on functional components and flavor of white tea by omics methods.

BACKGROUND: White tea (WT) is renowned for its distinct sensory attributes and functional properties. This study investigated how compression and aging influence the sensory and metabolic profiles of WT. Loose, compressed, aged loose and aged compressed (ACWT) teas were analyzed using sensory evaluation, metabolomics and chemometrics. RESULTS: As a result, compression enhanced floral and sweet aromas while reducing astringency and bitterness. Aging intensified fruity aromas and decreased astringency. The combination of compression and aging produced a complex fruity-woody aroma profile in ACW

Sleep spindles are linked to white matter connectivity differentially in older adults with and without cognitive impairment.

While sleep disturbance increases with age and neurodegeneration, the relationship between sleep micro-architecture and changes in key white matter tracts is unknown. We aimed to determine how sleep spindles and slow oscillations relate to structural connectivity within selected white matter tracts in older adults at risk for dementia. In this cross-sectional study, 67 participants (mean age = 68.1; 47 females) with subjective cognitive decline (n = 21) or mild cognitive impairment (n = 46) underwent neuropsychological assessment, magnetic resonance imaging and polysomnography. White paper on radiotherapy in France: Ten objectives to strengthen one of the major modalities of cancer treatment.

Radiotherapy is a major component of cancer treatment and contributing to the cure of approximately 220,000 patients annually in France, and to sustained long-term disease control in a substantial proportion of patients. Continuous technological advances - including image-guided radiotherapy, adaptive radiotherapy, and emerging ultra-high dose rate techniques - are transforming clinical practice and improving therapeutic outcomes. However, these innovations also raise important challenges related to equitable access, sustainable financing, workforce capacity, professional training, and the mai

Strategies and limitations of the bat immune response to Pseudogymnoascus destructans: the causative agent of white-nose syndrome.

The rapid spread of white-nose syndrome (WNS), an invasive fungal pathogen in bats caused by the psychrophilic fungus Pseudogymnoascus destructans, represents one of the most severe ongoing wildlife disease crises in North America. Since its emergence in 2006, WNS has driven drastic population declines in several ecologically and economically important bat species, including Myotis lucifugus. Once widespread and abundant, M. lucifugus is now designated as vulnerable or endangered in several jurisdictions, such as under Ontario's Species at Risk Act (SARA). Despite this, current gaps in underst

Associations of cerebrospinal fluid measures of synaptic function with white matter microstructure and cognition in older adults.

INTRODUCTION: Lower levels of several synaptic proteins in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have been associated with greater cognitive decline among older adults, but there is limited understanding of their associations with brain structure. This study is among the first to examine the cross-sectional relationship between levels of three synaptic proteins (VGF, NPTX2, and GluA4) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures of white matter microstructure and volumes, and with cognitive performance. We also examined whether relationships between synaptic protein levels and white matter measures are

Development and application of an artificial intelligence-based quantitative system for white without pressure in myopic retinopathy.

White Without Pressure (WWOP) is a common but under-recognized peripheral retinal finding associated with myopia-related complications, yet its objective assessment remains challenging. This study aimed to develop and validate an artificial intelligence (AI) system for the automated segmentation and quantitative assessment of WWOP lesions from ultra-widefield color fundus photographs. The system employs deep learning algorithms for automatic identification and multi-dimensional quantification of WWOP lesions, including WWOP total area, total number, zonal distribution (Area and Number for R1 (

Gut Microbiota and SCFAs Mediate the Therapeutic Effects of Canagliflozin in PCOS by Promoting White Fat Browning.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women, characterized by hyperandrogenism and frequently accompanied by insulin resistance. Canagliflozin (Cana), a sodium-dependent glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor used to treat diabetes, significantly inhibits renal SGLT2 activity. Clinical studies indicate that SGLT2 inhibitors improve endocrine and reproductive disorders in PCOS patients; however, whether these benefits involve the gut microbiota remains unknown. A PCOS mouse model was established by subcutaneous administration of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Serum

[White paper on identification, information, and eligibility assessment of potential participants in lung cancer screening in Germany].

The nationwide introduction of lung cancer screening using low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is imminent in Germany. In contrast to other cancer screening programs, lung cancer screening follows a risk-based approach and specifically targets heavy current and former smokers aged 50 to 75 years. Following several years of pilot phases and regulatory preparation, the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) decided in June 2025 to include this program as a regular benefit covered by statutory health insurance starting in 2026.Evidence from large international studies demonstrates a significant reduction

Distinction in the function and microstructure of white matter between major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.

BACKGROUND: Major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) are two of the leading causes of impairment to human mental health. These two psychiatric disorders overlap in many symptoms and neurobiological features thus difficult to distinguish in some cases. METHODS: We enrolled 102 participants, comprising 40 patients with MDD, 32 patients with GAD and 30 matched healthy controls (HCs), to undergo multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. We identified 18 major white matter (WM) tracts with automated fiber quantification (AFQ) method, to evaluated microstructu

Diabetic foot ulcer care integrating Salmon White's model: the critical role of community nurses.

Patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) often face significant challenges in receiving optimal care in the community. This condition can lead to serious complications if not addressed, including infection, delayed healing, amputation, decreased quality of life, financial burdens and mobility impairments. Community nurses are uniquely positioned to support DFU management, as they serve as the first point of contact for individuals managing this condition. They offer essential education on foot care and emphasise the importance of early intervention. In this context, using Salmon White's model

White matter microstructure of the cingulum bundle and the uncinate fasciculus in primary and secondary callous-unemotional traits.

Callous-unemotional (CU) traits appear to be linked to differences in neural networks, including the uncinate fasciculus (UF) and cingulum bundle (CB). It has recently been suggested that CU traits are comprised of primary and secondary subtypes based on the relative co-occurrence of internalising symptoms. Here, we explored the white matter microstructure of these subtypes. White matter microstructure of the UF and CB was analysed in youths (aged 8–18; n = 121; females = 31) recruited through Europe-based multisite studies. Our sample comprised a control (n = 53) and a case group with disrupt

Interplay of BMI and volumetric breast density measures and breast cancer risk for black and white women.

BACKGROUND: Black women have lower Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) breast density than White women, likely due to body mass index (BMI) differences. No studies have directly compared BMI, race, and volumetric breast density in relation to breast cancer risk. This study examines the associations between BI-RADS density and Volpara-derived volumetric breast density measures and breast cancer risk in non-Hispanic Black and White women, focusing on BMI’s influence. METHODS: A nested case-control study was conducted with 3699 women (526 Black, 3173 White) from Mayo Clinic and the
