INTRODUCTION: Throughout Great Britain, increasing numbers of women having an early medical abortion are choosing to go home soon after administration of misoprostol, to expel the pregnancy at home (early medical discharge, EMD), rather than remain upon the hospital premises (day case). However, data are lacking on how this impacts upon an abortion service in terms of unscheduled re-attendance rates and contraception provision at discharge.

BACKGROUND: The use of medical abortion methods was approved by Department of Health Services in 2009 and introduced in hospitals and a few primary health centres (PHCs). Access would increase if services were available at health post level and provided by auxiliary nurse midwives trained as skilled birth attendants. BACKGROUND: Misoprostol has been used for induction of labor either as a cervical ripening agent or as an abortifacient. Its use in women with previous cesarean births may be associated with an increased risk of uterine rupture.
CASE: We describe 3 cases of pregnancy termination between 18 and 24 weeks' gestation in women with previous classical cesarean deliveries. Misoprostol was used successfully in all three cases without complications.

OBJECTIVES: To gain a better understanding of women's perceptions and experiences of viewing the ultrasound (US) before an abortion.
METHODS: This mixed-methods study included questionnaires and interviews. Women presenting for medical and surgical abortion at two urban abortion clinics completed questionnaires asking if they wished to view the US image and those women who had done so answered questions about their perceptions. A randomly selected ten women were interviewed six weeks later about their perceptions. The interviews were audio-taped, transcribed and analysed for salient themes.
