Mental health of young talented football players in an African context: A cross-sectional observational study.

BACKGROUND: Elite sport is a potentially pathogenic environment due to stressors like dual-career, high training demands, and performance pressure. Recent evidence suggests that athletes are at high risk of mental health issues. Even though the FIFA is increasingly paying attention, efforts directed towards young talented footballers are scarce. Few studies have even been conducted on young talented footballers in Africa. The majority of epidemiological studies on athletes also suffer from an analytical approach that does not highlight athletes' mental health profiles. This study aims to descr

Spirituality is associated with immune parameters and disease activity in primary Sjögren's syndrome: a cross-sectional study.

The role of spirituality in health and disease is a complex and emerging area of research. Incorporating spirituality into the bio-psycho-social model of health and disease leading to the bio-psycho-social-spiritual model provides a more comprehensive framework. In this context, chronic disorders like primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) are of interest due to their intricate interactions between biological, psychological, and spiritual factors. This study explored the relationship between spirituality, immune parameters, and disease activity in pSS patients. Data from 108 patients were analyzed,

Cross-sectional study on the diagnostic significance of plasma exosomal miRNAs in HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma.

PURPOSE: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) associated with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) is one of the most severe malignancies in East Asia, where early diagnosis is crucial for improving patient prognosis. So we aim to identify effective early diagnostic model for HCC. DESIGN AND METHODS: We enrolled 108 early-stage HCC patients and 102 non-HCC individuals underlying HBV infection, collecting plasma exosomal miRNAs (exo-miRNAs) from all participants. These patients were randomly assigned to sequencing, screening, training, and validation group. After preliminary screening of candidate exo-miRNAs by

Association between ABO and Rh blood groups and Toxoplasma gondii infection: A cross sectional study.

We aimed to determine the association between the seropositivity to Toxoplasma gondii and the ABO and Rh blood groups in 2,053 people. ABO and Rhesus blood groups and anti-T. gondii IgG and IgM antibodies were determined using commercially available assays. Of the 2,053 people studied, 171 (8.3%) were positive for anti-T. gondii IgG antibodies. Sixty-five (38.0%) and 36 (21.1%) of these 171 individuals had high anti-T. gondii IgG antibody levels (≥150 IU mL-1) and anti-T. gondii IgM antibodies, respectively. We found the following prevalences of T. gondii infection among the ABO groups: 8.5% i

Relationship between Pulse Pressure and Handgrip Strength in the Korean Population: A Nationwide Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Sarcopenia is defined as the loss of muscle mass and strength and low physical performance, and it is closely related to the risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. Pulse pressure (PP) is a biomarker of arterial stiffness and compliance. Elevated PP levels increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases and all-cause mortality. Nevertheless, the association between PP and sarcopenia has not yet been clearly established. Methods: Participant data were extracted from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted from 2014 to 2020. The study population was cl

A multi-site cross-sectional study on the burden of SARS-CoV-2 in healthcare workers in Madagascar.

The prevalence of infections and risk factors that go along with them give insights into the burden of disease and effectiveness of infection prevention and control strategies. In this study we investigated the burden of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and associated epidemiological factors in three regions of Madagascar among healthcare workers. Between May and June 2021, we conducted a multi-site cross-sectional study among healthcare workers in eight University Hospital Centers, during the local second wave and before the coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination cam
