Aqueous and Vitreous Ketorolac Levels in Combined Cataract and Pars Plana Vitrectomy with Intracameral Ketorolac 0.3% Versus Topical Ketorolac 0.4.

INTRODUCTION: Ketorolac is well documented to reduce postoperative inflammation, pain, and the risk of cystoid macular edema (CME) during cataract surgery. The concentration of ketorolac in the vitreous humor following topical administration has been reported to be very low. As there is a lack of evidence on the vitreous levels of ketorolac following intracameral administration, this study aimed to evaluate the concentration of ketorolac in aqueous and vitreous humor samples during combined cataract surgery and pars plana vitrectomy in patients receiving preoperative topical ketorolac 0.4% or

Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Safety and Exploratory Efficacy Study of a Topical Bactericidal VB-1953: Analysis of Single and Multiple Doses in a Phase I Trial in Acne Vulgaris Subjects.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Cutibacterium acnes is a key pathogenic factor in the development of acne vulgaris. Topical and oral antibiotics play a pivotal role in effective management of the disease. The emergence of resistance to the currently available antibiotics poses a serious set-back to this algorithm, and the reduced arsenal can diminish the efficacy of treatment. A novel formulation of VB-1953 (2%) topical gel has been developed with dual mechanism of action and bactericidal activity, unlike the currently approved antibiotics, which are bacteriostatic agents, targeting acne vulgaris. Effect of topical Nanoliposomes of Paromomycin on Rats Liver and Kidney.

BACKGROUND: Hepatotoxicity due to drugs is the most common cause of deaths. Nephrotoxicity of the drugs is usually associated with the drugs accumulation in renal tissue. Paromomycin sulfate (PMS) is an anti-leishmania drug. Although the topical approach for the treatment of leishmania is attractive, its use might cause nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate probable nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity of topically administered PMS liposomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine groups of male rats were used in this study; each group consisted of 6 rats that were ev

Rose Bengal acetate-mediated photodynamic therapy alleviates Cutibacterium acnes-induced acne-like lesions in a mouse model.

Acne vulgaris is a wordwide distressing skin condition which is often treated by topical antibiotics or retinoids, and in severe cases with oral medications. It is generated by a series of factors including excess sebum production clogging sebaceous glands and infection with Cutibacterium acnes producing inflammation. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with topical aminolevulanic acid or its methyl ester plus red light has shown good results, especially for inflammatory lesions. The present study investigated the use of a new photosensitzer Rose Bengal acetate (RBAc) for acne PDT treatment. RBAc plus

Dapsone for acne: Still in use after half a century!

BACKGROUND: Sixty years ago, Ross discussed the use of oral dapsone in the treatment of acne vulgaris. Ross was fundamental in demonstrating the importance of this medication in dermatology. Following this, topical formulations have been used for the treatment of acne vulgaris which has not responded to traditional therapies. We explore the impact that the discovery of dapsone has had on subsequent research and clinical practice and explore the typical doses and side effects of this often sidelined therapy. METHODS: We conducted a review of the literature on the use of dapsone for acne using

Treatment of scabies: the topical ivermectin vs. permethrin 2.5% cream.

Human scabies is caused by an infestation of the skin by the human itch mite (Sarcoptes scabiei va. hominis). It is commonly treated with topical insecticides, but the treatment of choice is still controversial. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of topical ivermectin vs. permethrin 2.5% cream for the treatment of scabies. In total, 380 patients with scabies were enrolled, and randomized into two groups: the first group received 1% ivermectin applied topically to the affected skin at a dose of 400 microg/kg, repeated once the following week, while the second group received permet

Topical application of recombinant type VII collagen incorporates into the dermal-epidermal junction and promotes wound closure.

Patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) have incurable skin fragility, blistering, and skin wounds due to mutations in the gene that codes for type VII collagen (C7) that mediates dermal-epidermal adherence in human skin. In this study, we evaluated if topically applied human recombinant C7 (rC7) could restore C7 at the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) and enhance wound healing. We found that rC7 applied topically onto murine skin wounds stably incorporated into the newly formed DEJ of healed wounds and accelerated wound closure by increasing re-epithelialization. Topica

Effectiveness of MeroGel hyaluronic acid on tympanic membrane perforations.

CONCLUSIONS: Our results support the proposition that hyaluronic acid (HA) provides a moist wound-healing environment to aid in the healing process of tympanic membrane perforation. A single MeroGel administration can be effective as well as daily topical HA application in the treatment of tympanic membrane perforations. A single application of esterified HA may be more suitable for patients and also for otolaryngologists. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a single MeroGel application on traumatic tympanic membrane perforations in rats. MATERIAL
