The European Guidelines on Diagnosis and Management of Neutropenia in Adults and Children: A Consensus Between the European Hematology Association and the EuNet-INNOCHRON COST Action.

Neutropenia, as an isolated blood cell deficiency, is a feature of a wide spectrum of acquired or congenital, benign or premalignant disorders with a predisposition to develop myelodysplastic neoplasms/acute myeloid leukemia that may arise at any age. In recent years, advances in diagnostic methodologies, particularly in the field of genomics, have revealed novel genes and mechanisms responsible for etiology and disease evolution and opened new perspectives for tailored treatment. Despite the research and diagnostic advances in the field, real world evidence, arising from international neutrop

A blended approach to developing psychomotor skills in novice learners in a doctor of physical therapy curriculum.

PURPOSE: Psychomotor skill performance is central to effective clinical practice across health professions. These complex skills are challenging to teach, particularly in the novice learner. As many health professions programs have increased blended course offerings, educators must establish best practices for teaching psychomotor skills in this evolving learning environment. The purpose of this paper is to describe the innovative application of an evidence-based framework to teaching psychomotor skills to novice learners in a blended learning environment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using a modif

Enhancing member engagement in a Tier 3 personality disorder service during COVID-19: evaluation of a virtual group programme.

BACKGROUND: Drop-out rates from evidence-based interventions for people with a diagnosis of personality disorder (PD) are high. The COVID-19 pandemic has likely exacerbated barriers to engagement with the introduction of virtual working. Virtual therapy has a good evidence-base for Axis I disorders, but limited research for Axis II disorders. AIMS: To investigate facilitators and barriers to engagement in a Tier 3 PD service virtual group programme. METHOD: A virtual group programme was developed in collaboration with service members, and analysed members' attendance rates over a 5-month per

Textbook typologies: Challenging the myth of the perfect obstetric pelvis.

Medical education's treatment of obstetric-related anatomy exemplifies historical sex bias in medical curricula. Foundational obstetric and midwifery textbooks teach that clinical pelvimetry and the Caldwell-Moloy classification system are used to assess the pelvic capacity of a pregnant patient. We describe the history of these techniques-ostensibly developed to manage arrested labors-and offer the following criticisms. The sample on which these techniques were developed betrays the bias of the authors and does not represent the sample needed to address their interest in obstetric outcomes. C

Classification of stress urinary incontinence.

INTRODUCTION: The relevant terminology for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is affected by the context, namely the clinical assessment (the symptom of SUI elicited on history taking and the sign of SUI observed during examination) or diagnostic investigations (urodynamic stress incontinence). In some cases, SUI may only be observed after the reduction in coexistent prolapse (occult SUI). Classifying SUI often relies on distinguishing between intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD), and urethral malposition or hypermobility, although this potentially an over-simplification. REVIEW: Classificatio

Blood audit evidenced-based cross-match requesting for lumbar spine surgery.

STUDY DESIGN: Complete audit cycle. OBJECTIVE: Radical overhaul of the blood ordering practices made by the spinal surgery department, in order to maximize the efficient use of blood products. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Spinal surgeons request blood-based on historical practice and not evidence. Blood is a scarce resource. Provision relies on voluntary donations from the general population. However, the donor population has been reduced because of the risks of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Hence, the responsibility rests with clinicians to optimize their management of blood. METHODS:

Gamification and Game-Based Learning in Interprofessional Health Professions Education: A Systematic Review and Narrative Synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Interprofessional education (IPE) prepares healthcare professionals for collaborative practice. Gamification and game-based learning (GBL) are increasingly used in health professions education, and multiple studies have examined their design, targeted competencies, and educational outcomes in IPE. However, the existing literature has not been adequately summarized. This systematic review aimed to summarize the available literature on the design, implementation, targeted competencies, and educational outcomes of gamification and GBL interventions in IPE. METHODS: A systematic revie

Real-World Invasive Evaluation of Myocardial Bridging: A Multicenter Italian Survey of Interventional Cardiologists' Practices.

BACKGROUND: Myocardial bridging (MB) is increasingly recognized as a potential cause of ischemia through heterogeneous mechanisms, yet real-world management remains heterogeneous. We surveyed interventional cardiologists to describe contemporary MB practice, focusing on functional assessments, perceived value, and barriers to the "full-physiology" approach, and priorities for standardization and research. AIMS: To characterize contemporary MB management among interventional cardiologists, focusing on physiology approaches, imaging strategies, and perceived barriers to implementation and treat

Supporting implementation of occupational therapy led Falls Hazard Reduction at Home: A scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Accidental falls among older people pose a significant threat to both morbidity and mortality. Falls Hazard Reduction at Home (FHR@Home) when delivered by occupational therapists has been demonstrated as an effective fall prevention intervention. Despite the evidence, FHR@Home is not routinely implemented in practice. This scoping review seeks to explore existing literature to support implementation of FHR@Home by answering the question: 'What is known about implementation strategies used to support home and community environmental falls prevention intervention in health care?'

Cognitive-behavioral interventions for (peri)menopausal symptoms: A scoping review of interventions characteristics and content.

OBJECTIVES: Menopause transition is characterized by several changes that can impact a woman's well-being and mental health. Despite the increasing evidence on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for managing menopausal symptoms, research lacks a comprehensive synthesis of interventions' characteristics for this population. This scoping review aims to provide a comprehensive and updated synthesis of the characteristics, content, and impact of cognitive-behavioral interventions on the treatment of psychological and/or (peri)menopausal symptoms. Contextual Factors Affecting SGLT2 Inhibitors and GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Prescribing in Primary Care: An Application of the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research.

BACKGROUND: Despite strong evidence supporting cardiovascular and kidney benefits of sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) in patients with type 2 diabetes, prescribing rates remain suboptimal. The aim of this study was to assess clinicians' knowledge and comfort prescribing SGLT2i and GLP-1 RA in clinical practice and factors influencing prescribing of these agents. METHODS: This multi-methods study used questionnaires to assess self-reported knowledge and comfort prescribing SGLT2i and GLP-1 RA, and semi-structured inter

Randomised controlled trials of nursing interventions in spinal cord injury: a scoping review.

STUDY DESIGN: Scoping Review OBJECTIVES: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) are considered the gold standard for evaluating the effectiveness of clinical interventions. In spinal cord injury (SCI) care, nurses deliver many interventions, yet the number, quality, and level of nurse involvement in RCTs remains unclear. Poorly designed RCTs can introduce bias, and limited nurse participation may restrict the development of evidence-based nursing practice. This review aimed to determine: 1. The number and topics of RCTs on nurse-related interventions for people with SCI; 2. The extent of nurse le

Developing a culturally adapted competency framework for community paramedicine practice in Saudi Arabia.

Community paramedicine (CP) has emerged globally as a model for extending healthcare access, but little evidence exists on how it can be adapted to the sociocultural and systemic context of Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to develop a culturally tailored competency framework for CP to inform education, practice, and policy. A qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with 15 experts from diverse regions and professional roles in Saudi Arabia was adopted. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify the core competencies. To complement the qualitative synthesis and explore structural pa

Integrating nociplastic pain into neuropathic pain framework: a proposal for a revised classification.

From an etiological perspective, the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) classifies pain into three categories: nociceptive pain (NcP), neuropathic pain (NeP), and nociplastic pain (NpP). In clinical practice, distinguishing between NpP and NeP can be particularly challenging. They share many clinical characteristics, including pain hypersensitivity and spontaneous pain. Currently, no evidence-based diagnostic method has been established for NpP, as defined by the IASP. Questionnaires had been developed before the IASP officially adopted NpP in 2017. Therefore, they cannot r

Understanding therapeutic radiographers' confidence in assessing, managing & teaching radiation induced skin reactions (RISR): A national survey in the UK.

INTRODUCTION: The standard toxicity tools adopted for assessing Radiation Induced Skin Reactions (RISR) do not currently reflect how skin changes occur across all skin tones. A one size fits all approach is adopted currently for RISR assessment. The aim of this study was to understand what evidence-based practice and RISR tools are being used across the therapeutic radiography workforce and the levels of confidence in using these tools. METHODS: A survey using Likert scales to assess confidence in RISR assessment and management was made available to 77 departments in the UK between August-Nov

GRADE-ADOLOPMENT of clinical practice guidelines and creation of clinical pathways for the primary care management of chronic respiratory conditions in Pakistan.

INTRODUCTION: In Pakistan, chronic respiratory conditions contribute a large burden of morbidity and mortality. A major reason for this is the lack of availability of local evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (EBCPGs) in Pakistan, particularly at the primary care level. Thus, we developed EBCPGs and created clinical diagnosis and referral pathways for the primary care management of chronic respiratory conditions in Pakistan. METHODS: The source guidelines were selected by two local expert pulmonologists after a thorough literature review on PubMed and Google Scholar from 2010 to Decem
