Association of SNP rs.2414096 CYP19 gene with polycystic ovarian syndrome in Iranian women.

BACKGROUND: Genetic factors are believed to play an important role in the etiology of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) which is the most common endocrinological disorder of women in their reproductive age. Androgen metabolism is impaired in PCOS and, thus, CYP19 gene which is involved in this pathway can be a candidate gene. Previous studies have shown a relationship between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of CYP19 in hyperandrogenism and PCOS in some racial groups. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to elucidate the role of CYP19 gene in PCOS in Iran. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this c

How to prepare the patient for robotic surgery: before and during the operation.

Robotic surgery in the treatment of gynecologic diseases continues to evolve and has become accepted over the last decade. The advantages of robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery over conventional laparoscopy are three-dimensional camera vision, superior precision and dexterity with EndoWristed instruments, elimination of operator tremor, and decreased surgeon fatigue. The drawbacks of the technology are bulkiness and lack of tactile feedback. As with other surgical platforms, the limitations of robotic surgery must be understood. Patient selection and the types of surgical procedures that can

Efficacious Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation for Painful Small Fiber Neuropathy: A Case Report.

Small fiber neuropathy is a disorder of the peripheral nerves with typical symptoms of burning, sharp, and shooting pain and sensory disturbances in the feet. Pain treatment depends principally on the underlying etiology with concurrent administration of antidepressants, anticonvulsants, opioids, and topical treatments like capsaicin and local anesthetics. However, treatments for pain relief in these patients frequently fail. We describe the first case of intractable painful small fiber neuropathy of the foot successfully treated with spinal cord stimulation of the left L5 dorsal root ganglion
