AIM: This study reports the results of surgical treatment of patients with carcinoma of the base of tongue-supraglottic complex. The base of the tongue, the epiglottic valleculae, preepiglottic space and supraglottic part of the larynx develop from one central region. DESIGN: Interventional case report.
METHODS: A 14-year-old boy presented with a progressively growing limbal lesion in the right eye for 2 months. He had associated erythematous scaly lesions on the elbows, knees, and feet with periodontosis suggestive of Papillon-Lefevre syndrome. OBJECTIVE: No prior studies have contrasted esophageal and gastric cardia carcinoma incidence rates among multiple ethnicities. We evaluated whether these adjacent cancers differ; such detailed demographic analyses would inform risk factor, screening, and intervention studies.
METHODS: We contrasted incidence rates and temporal trends from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) cancer registry data between 1992 and 1998 for five groups: non-Hispanic whites (Caucasians), white Hispanics (Hispanics), blacks, Asians/Pacific Islanders (Asians/PI), and Native Americans (NA).

BACKGROUND: Both surgery and radiotherapy are recognized treatments of T1-T2 squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx. We retrospectively analyze and compare the oncological outcome of patients treated in a single institution, either by endoscopic surgery or partial supracricoid laryngectomy versus radiation therapy.

On the base of 1901 cases of larynx and hypopharynx carcinoma treated in ENT Department in Szczecin occurrence of occult nodal metastases was analysed. The frequency of such cases was 21%. Clinical statement and localisation of the tumour was the major factors predicted to occurrence of occult metastases. It was statistically pointed out that nodal recurrences occurred mainly among the patients with occult metastases. Survival rate was significantly better in group with no occult metastases (64.9%--3 year and 50.4--5 year) than in group with occult metastases (37.5%--3 year and 27.9%--5 year).

BACKGROUND: Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) is prototypically represented by "undifferentiated" nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but it has also been described in many other anatomic locations, including the skin. In the last of these sites, primary LELC has been assumed in the past to show dermal adnexal differentiation.
METHODS: The authors present a case wherein LELC of the skin (LELCS) instead appeared to be a morphologic manifestation of squamous carcinoma of the skin surface, as supported by the results of immunohistology and in situ hybridization.

A retrospective comparison of treatment policies in two institutions revealed a change in the reliance on radiotherapy. Since 1978, high-energy, high-dosage radiotherapy has played a prominent role in the primary therapy of squamous cell carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx. The purpose of this paper has been clinical problems associating squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva co-existing with non-neoplastic epithelial disorders. We analyzed 46 women with vulvar carcinoma. Non-neoplastic epithelial disorders we found in 17% cases. In conclusions we suggest the follow-up in patient with non-neoplastic epithelial disorders must be held the same like with vulvar carcinoma.

Complex resections of the maxilla produce a three-dimensional defect that can be difficult to reconstruct using autogenous tissue without utilizing a free tissue transfer.
