Sexuality, a topic that surgeons should discuss with women before risk-reducing mastectomy and breast reconstruction.

While sexual health is an important aspect of quality of life, sexual issues usually go unaddressed during patient-provider communication. Breast cancer treatments and specifically breast surgery impact women's sexual well-being. However, women do not receive adequate information on this subject. Women who underwent prophylactic mastectomy and breast reconstruction invariably reported that they had underestimated the impact of mastectomy and reconstruction on their sexuality, and expressed a need for information and creating realistic expectations pertaining to sexuality. Therefore, we urge br

Patient-doctor communication.

Communication is an important component of patient care. Traditionally, communication in medical school curricula was incorporated informally as part of rounds and faculty feedback, but without a specific or intense focus on skills of communicating per se. The reliability and consistency of this teaching method left gaps, which are currently getting increased attention from medical schools and accreditation organizations. There is also increased interest in researching patient-doctor communication and recognizing the need to teach and measure this specific clinical skill. In 1999, the Accredit

Primary treatment of type B post-axial ulnar polydactyly: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Optimal management of pedunculated ulnar polydactyly is not defined. This systematic review summarises objective and patient-reported outcomes following primary treatment. Two authors screened articles for inclusion according to a PROSPERO published protocol. The meta-analysis of adverse events was performed, and a narrative synthesis of satisfaction and patient-reported outcomes was reported. The risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane's ROBINS-I tool. Of 1650 articles identified, 15 were eligible, including 13 single-arm and 2 multi-arm studies. Complications were 6 times as likely with lig

Subtalar arthrodesis in addition to ankle arthrodesis (AA) should have effect on foot motion and functional capabilities pertaining to activities of daily living (ADL); however, it is not well characterized. We compared the foot range of motion and ADL-related functional capabilities between patients who had undergone AA and tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis (TTC). Twenty-one AA patients and 10 TTC patients were enrolled. Foot sagittal motion arc was measured by radiographs. Patient satisfaction, ADL, footwear restriction, and rating scale scores were compared between the 2 groups. The mean sagit

Editorial Perspective: Exposures in cognitive behavior therapy for pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder: addressing common clinician concerns.

Professional organizations and expert consensus recommend the use of exposure-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat pediatric obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but a sizable proportion of clinicians possess hesitancy regarding the use of exposures in treatment. Most notably, this hesitancy relates to concerns about negative patient and parent reactions to exposures. Accordingly, we examine three commonly reported clinician concerns regarding negative patient/parent reactions (e.g. treatment attrition, therapeutic relationship, and treatment satisfaction) among youths receiving e
