AIMS: We retrospectively assessed the benefits of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)- and heparin-based portal infusion chemotherapy combined with systemic administration of mitomycin C (MMC) and cisplatin (CDDP) for 4 weeks following surgery (PI4W). Postoperative internal carotid artery (ICA) occlusion is a rare condition with few data on the risk factors. The aim of the study was to analyze risk factors and ischemic symptomatology in patients with postoperative ICA occlusion. During one year period, 33 patients with postoperative ICA occlusion were examined at Cerebrovascular Laboratory. AIM: Rheumatic mitral patients reach their fifth decade of life more often now than in the past. The purpose of this study is to provide insight into improving morbidity and mortality in these patients.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 105 patients aged 50 years or more. Seventy-five underwent mechanical valve replacement and 30 received a bioprosthetic valve. Data were collected from medical records and outpatient department (OPD) registers. Follow-up included transthoracic 2D echocardiography, supported by clinical parameters, and X-ray findings.
