Molecular imaging in lymphoma beyond 18F-FDG-PET: understanding the biology and its implications for diagnostics and therapy.

Mature lymphoproliferative diseases are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms arising from different stages of B-cell and T-cell development. With improved understanding of the molecular processes in lymphoma and novel treatment options, arises a growing need for the molecular characterisation of tumours. Molecular imaging with single-photon-emission CT and PET using specific radionuclide tracers can provide whole-body information to investigate cancer biology, to evaluate phenotypic heterogeneity, to identify resistance to targeted therapy, and to assess the biodistribution of drugs in patients.

Quantitative assessment of interim PET in Hodgkin lymphoma: An evaluation of the qPET method in adult patients in the RAPID trial.

AIM: qPET is a quantitative method used to assess FDG-PET response in lymphoma. qPET was developed using 898 scans from children with Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL) in the EuroNet-PHL-C1 (C1) trial. The aim of this study was to determine if qPET could be applied as an alternative response method in adults in the RAPID trial. METHODS: PET-CT scans performed after 3 cycles of ABVD in RAPID were re-evaluated by an independent reader, blinded to PET results and outcome in RAPID. All initially involved regions were assessed visually and by qPET. The distribution of qPET measurements was compared for RAPID

Incidental Discovery of a COVID-19 Infection on a Reevaluation FDG PET/CT in a Patient Treated for Hodgkin Lymphoma.

We report the results of F-FDG PET/CT in an asymptomatic case of COVID-19 infection. A 27-year-old woman underwent FDG PET/CT for revaluation of a stage IIIE B Hodgkin lymphoma after the fourth cycle of chemotherapy. It showed intense avid FDG subpleural mixed ground-glass and consolidative lesions, especially in the left lung. Because of this morpho-metabolic aspect and the epidemic context, a viral pneumopathy was suspected. The patient who was initially asymptomatic was admitted for fever 28 hours after the PET/CT. The nasopharyngeal swab was positive for COVID-19, and the outcome was favor

[18F]FDDNP PET binding predicts change in executive function in a pilot clinical trial of geriatric depression.

OBJECTIVES: Geriatric depression often presents with memory and cognitive complaints that are associated with increased risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). In a parent clinical trial of escitalopram combined with memantine or placebo for geriatric depression and subjective memory complaints, we found that memantine improved executive function and delayed recall performance at 12 months (NCT01902004). In this report, we used positron emission tomography (PET) to assess the relationship between in-vivo amyloid and tau brain biomarkers and clinical and cognitive treatment response. DESIGN: In a r

Laboratory-Proven Asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Infection on 18F-FDG PET/CT.

An 87-year-old man with primary salivary duct carcinoma and hepatic metastases was referred for restaging. F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated new FDG-avid ground-glass opacities with intralobular septal thickening in both lungs with a peripheral dominant distribution. This was interpreted as a pattern highly suggestive of COVID-19 pneumonia, and the referring physician was contacted. The patient was currently asymptomatic and without clinical evidence of active pneumonia. However, the patient tested positive for COVID-19 using real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. This case demonst

Posttreated POEMS Syndrome With Concurrent Follicular Lymphoma Revealed by 18F-FDG and 68Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT.

A 59-year-old man with history of POEMS syndrome was found with a painless mass in the right neck for 9 months. In F-FDG and Ga-pentixafor PET/CT, there were multiple neck nodes and left inguinal nodes that showed intense F-FDG and Ga-pentixafor uptake. In addition, osteoblastic bone lesions with mild F-FDG and Ga-pentixafor uptake were noted in the pelvis, which was consistent with posttreated osseous involvement of POEMS syndrome. However, considering lymphoadenopathy with such intense F-FDG uptake is not usually seen in POEMS syndrome, the patient underwent biopsy of the right cervical node

Brain glucose uptake during transcranial direct current stimulation measured with functional [18F]FDG-PET.

Previous evidence indicates that transcranial direct stimulation (tDCS) is a neuromodulatory brain stimulation technique. Easy applicability, low side-effects and negligible costs facilitated its wide-spread application in efforts to modulate brain function, however neuronal mechanisms of tDCS are insufficiently understood. Hence, we investigated the immediate impact of tDCS on the brain's glucose consumption in a continuous infusion protocol with the radioligand 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) and positron emission tomography (PET). This novel functional PET (fPET) method is capabl

In vivo imaging of cell proliferation in meningioma using 3'-deoxy-3'-[18F]fluorothymidine PET/MRI.

PURPOSE: Positron emission tomography (PET) with 3'-deoxy-3'-[18F]fluorothymidine ([18F]FLT) provides a noninvasive assessment of tumour proliferation in vivo and could be a valuable imaging modality for assessing malignancy in meningiomas. We investigated a range of static and dynamic [18F]FLT metrics by correlating the findings with cellular biomarkers of proliferation and angiogenesis. METHODS: Seventeen prospectively recruited adult patients with intracranial meningiomas underwent a 60-min dynamic [18F]FLT PET following surgery. Global quantification of pulmonary artery atherosclerosis using 18F-sodium fluoride PET/CT in at-risk subjects.

The goal of this study was to assess pulmonary artery calcification in healthy controls and subjects with suspicion of stable angina pectoris through the usage of quantitative 18F-sodium fluoride positron emission tomography/computed tomography (NaF-PET/CT). We hypothesized that these 'at-risk subjects' would demonstrate increase pulmonary artery NaF uptake compared to healthy controls. Retrospectively, 15 healthy controls were compared to 15 at-risk subjects, all of whom underwent full-body NaF-PET/CT scans. The healthy controls and at-risk patients were all randomly sampled from larger datas

Neuroinflammation trajectories precede cognitive impairment after experimental meningitis-evidence from an in vivo PET study.

BACKGROUND: Bacterial meningitis is a devastating central nervous system (CNS) infection with acute and long-term neurological consequences, including cognitive impairment. The aim of this study was to understand the association between activated microglia-induced neuroinflammation and post-meningitis cognitive impairment. METHOD: Meningitis was induced in male Wistar rats by injecting Streptococcus pneumoniae into the brain through the cisterna magna, and rats were then treated with ceftriaxone. Twenty-four hours and 10 days after meningitis induction, rats were imaged with positron emission

Pulmonary sarcoidosis masquerading as metastatic cervical cancer: a pitfall in CT scans and positron emission tomography (PET).

Sarcoidosis has been associated with co-existing malignancies in several organs, including the breast and thyroid gland as well as lymphomas. However, the occurrence of sarcoidosis with cervical cancer is rare with only nine previous cases reported in the published literature. We present a case of pulmonary sarcoidosis imitating mediastinal lymph node metastases on the staging CT scan and positron emission tomography imaging. The presence of thoracic lymphadenopathy without any pelvic lymphadenopathy prompted histological confirmation of sarcoidosis on endobronchial ultrasound guided biopsy. M

18F-THK5351 PET imaging in patients with progressive supranuclear palsy: associations with core domains and diagnostic certainty.

The associations of 18F-THK5351 tau positron emission tomography (PET) findings with core domains of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and its diagnostic certainty have yet to be fully elucidated. The 18F-THK5351 PET patterns of 17 patients with PSP (68.9 ± 6.5 years; 8 women) were compared with those observed in 28 age-matched and sex-matched (66.2 ± 4.5 years, 18 women) control subjects (CS). Tracer accumulation-as reflected by standardized uptake value ratios (SUVRs) and z-scores-was correlated with core domains of PSP and different levels of diagnostic certainty. Compared with CS, patie
