Feeding and swallowing dysfunction in genetic syndromes.

Children with genetic syndromes frequently have feeding problems and swallowing dysfunction as a result of the complex interactions between anatomical, medical, physiological, and behavioral factors. Feeding problems associated with genetic disorders may also cause feeding to be unpleasant, negative, or even painful because of choking, coughing, gagging, fatigue, or emesis, resulting in the child to stop eating and to develop behaviors that make it difficult, if not impossible, for a parent to feed their child. In addition, limited experiences with oral intake related to the medical or physica

Liver transplantation at the University of Texas Health Science Center/University Hospital in San Antonio.

Liver transplantation is the only potentially curative treatment for patients with end-stage liver disease. An extensive medical and psychosocial evaluation is performed in an attempt to determine which patients are likely to have acceptable outcomes with the procedure. The limited number of donor livers relative to patients that need a liver transplant, and the occurrence of significant deaths in the waiting group, has motivated many transplant programs to agree to put living donors at risk to help solve this problem. Other complex operative techniques such as splitting livers for use in 2 pa

Current Practices and Self-Reported Proficiency in the US Interventional Pulmonology Fellowships: A National Cross-Sectional Survey.

BACKGROUND: Interventional pulmonology (IP) has expanded rapidly due to procedural advancements and recent ACGME subspecialty recognition. However, significant heterogeneity persists in training curricula and procedural exposure. This study aims to delineate current trends in the United States IP fellowship education. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional, multisurvey study between June 2024 and August 2025 involving IP fellows (2024 and 2025 cohorts) and program directors (PDs) across 43 accredited US programs (44% of PDs and 34% to 45% of fellows per administration responded). Farm-based therapeutic horticulture for people living with dementia: the Vicenza Farm Project.

Dementia is a major global health challenge, with wide-ranging psychosocial and relational impacts that call for supportive, everyday interventions alongside clinical care. While advances in Alzheimer's disease are promising, dementia includes multiple conditions, including young-onset forms, and existing pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions still offer valuable but incomplete support, often leaving everyday psychosocial needs unmet for most people living with dementia. This Perspective describes the Vicenza Farm Project, a farm-based therapeutic horticulture program developed

Using the RE-AIM Framework to Understand Pathway Home's Impact, Reach, and Long-Term Sustainability Within the Healthcare System.

Consistent evidence demonstrates that care transition programs can significantly improve mental health outcomes, treatment engagement, satisfaction, and overall quality of life. However, the extent and fidelity of implementation across behavioral health systems remain underexamined. This article applies the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance) framework to evaluate the Pathway Home model, a community-based care transition program in New York that supports individuals returning to the community after psychiatric hospitalization or other institutional settings

A Pilot Clinical Trial of a Group Coping Intervention for English and Spanish Speakers with Chronic Graft-Versus-Host Disease.

BACKGROUND: Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) affects up to 40% of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) survivors, producing lasting physical and psychosocial sequelae. Despite their high symptom burden, survivors with cGVHD are rarely included in survivorship intervention research. This pilot study evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of a group-based coping intervention for patients with cGVHD (Horizons program), delivered in English and Spanish to patients in South Florida, USA, to inform larger-scale testing. METHODS: We conducted a single-arm trial of the Horizon

[Intensive outpatient treatment for eating disorders in Mexico, contextualized for Latin America].

Introduction: in Latin America, access to specialized treatment for eating disorders (EDs) remains limited. Despite advances in detection and diagnosis, there are still major gaps in the availability of intensive and appropriate services, particularly outside large urban centers. Most existing treatment models were developed in high-income countries and do not always reflect the sociocultural, economic, and structural realities of the region. Objective: this report aims to document the implementation and evaluation of a scalable intermediate care model for EDs, with implications for adoption i

Extended HPV typing as an efficient alternative within HPV-based screening programs.

Extended high-risk human papilloma virus (hrHPV) typing emerges as a potential alternative for detecting cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 3 (CIN3), without additional triage tests. We evaluate the extended hrHPV typing as an alternative to improve CIN3 detection within an HPV-based screening program. Between January 2017 and August 2018, 5856 women aged 25-65 years were screened as part of a public cervical cancer screening program of the Tlalpan Sanitary Jurisdiction in Mexico City. HPV testing was performed by BD Onclarity™, which individually detects hrHPV types 16, 18, 31, 45, 51, and 52

A national postgraduate nurse practitioner and physician assistant fellowship in cystic fibrosis: An innovative approach to the provider shortage in complex and rare disease.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a complex life-limiting genetic condition that affects the respiratory, digestive, reproductive system, and sweat glands. Advances in treatment have led to improved survival and quality of life. Today, most persons with CF live to adulthood but require highly specialized care at accredited CF Care Centers. The growing and aging CF population combined with the provider workforce shortage have increased the demand for qualified CF providers. Nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) have been providing CF care for decades, but most learned on the job. The L

Investigation of the Hepatitis-B Vaccine's Immune Response in a Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Mouse Model.

This study aimed to investigate the immunogenicity of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine by applying a normal and high-dose hepatitis B virus vaccination program in the mice modeling of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). NAFLD was induced in mouse livers via diet. At the 10-week mark, both groups were divided into 3 subgroups. While the standard dose vaccination program was applied on days 0, 7, and 21, two high-dose programs were applied: one was applied on days 0 and 7, and the other was applied on days 0, 7, and 21. All mice were euthanized. Blood samples from anti-HB titers; T fol
