OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the efficacy of the titanium vocal fold medializing implant (TVFMI) for the treatment of unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) on the basis of acoustic, aerodynamic, and mucosal wave measurements in an excised larynx setup.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective study of 15 patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis undergoing type I thyroplasty under local anaesthesia. Each patient's dysphonia and swallowing disorders were evaluated both objectively and subjectively before and 3 months after thyroplasty.

A new complication after deep sclerectomy with implant is presented as a case report. A 42-year-old male with uncontrolled primary open-angle glaucoma underwent nonpenetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) with an SK-GEL implant in his left eye. Two months after surgery the implant was noted to migrate into the subconjunctival space. Seven months later the implant was stable in the new position without complication. Implant migration into the subconjunctival space is a possible complication of NPDS.

The implantable loop recorder (ILR) has proved highly efficacious in the management of syncope, presyncope and palpitations in selected populations. Limited information regarding patient selection and diagnostic yield exists in the paediatric setting. A retrospective evaluation of patients who underwent ILR implantation over a 66-month period, in a tertiary paediatric cardiology unit was conducted. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether the tension-free vaginal tape operation changes urethral hypermobility, funneling, and urethral urodynamic parameters in different parts of the urethra.
METHODS: We conducted a cohort study of our first 80 unselected female patients (age 36 to 78 years, median 53) undergoing a tension-free vaginal tape procedure.
