OBJECTIVE: To examine Medicare Advantage (MA) plan, dialysis provider organization, and kidney care management company perspectives on how MA enrollment impacts access to care among persons with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). The 21st Century Cures Act enabled persons with ESKD to enroll in MA, resulting in over 70% growth in enrollment among this group. However, the impact of MA enrollment on access to healthcare and services for people with ESKD remains unknown.
STUDY SETTING AND DESIGN: This was a qualitative study that included 48 semistructured interviews with 56 participants represent

ObjectiveTo explore how three generational cohorts of Indian medical practitioners perceive rural practice and identify the feedback mechanisms driving these shifts across career stages. We frame these shifts as a question of everyday health system resilience: the system's capacity to sustain rural service delivery under chronic, accumulating stress rather than discrete shocks.MethodsExploratory qualitative study using semi-structured in-depth interviews, by telephone or video across nine Indian states. Forty-four participants formed three groups: senior rural health leaders with 20+ years' ex

BACKGROUND: Early cancer diagnosis is a healthcare priority, but identifying patients who may have cancer remains challenging because alarm symptoms are often non-specific and may also indicate other conditions. To facilitate timely cancer diagnosis, standardized cancer patient pathways (CPP) have been introduced in several health systems, including Sweden. Since most patients diagnosed with cancer begin their pathway in primary healthcare (PHC), nurses and physicians play a central role in assessing symptoms and determining whether CPP criteria for suspected cancer are fulfilled. Although res

IntroductionWhile web-based presence technology (WPT) is increasingly used within long-term care homes (LTCHs) to support social connectedness, understanding the unique attitudes of older adults, family members, and staff is central to its meaningful adoption.MethodsUsing a qualitative descriptive approach, individual semi-structured virtual interviews were conducted with 39 participants (older adults, family, and staff). Data were analyzed using content analysis.ResultsA continuum of positive, negative, and ambivalent attitudes towards WPT use for social connectedness emerged. Positive attitu

BACKGROUND: University students globally experience rising mental health challenges, yet little research has explored how female students themselves conceptualize mental health, particularly within the Canadian post-secondary context. Understanding these conceptualizations is essential for designing gender-sensitive mental health interventions in higher education.
AIM: This study aimed to explore how female university students conceptualize mental health and to generate a theoretical model explaining their perceptions and experiences.
METHODS: A constructivist grounded theory approach guided

BACKGROUND: Long-stay psychiatric rehabilitation units often struggle to provide emotionally meaningful and person-centred care because of institutional routines and limited opportunities for therapeutic engagement. Innovative relational interventions may help promote emotional connection and support more humanized models of psychiatric rehabilitation.
OBJECTIVE: To explore the emotional and relational processes observed during a structured shelter dog programme in a long-stay psychiatric rehabilitation setting and to examine how these processes were perceived to contribute to the humanizatio

BACKGROUND: Children of parents with mental health illness (COPMI) have the right to receive preventive interventions to avoid developing their own mental health and socioeconomic problems. However, access to interventions varies widely within health care and social services depending on their geographical location in Sweden. In this regard, mobile health (mHealth) interventions for COPMI provide a pathway for more equitable and sustainable preventive support.
OBJECTIVE: This project aims to (1) map and assess the quality of available mHealth apps relevant to COPMI; (2) investigate experts' p

BACKGROUND: Gender-affirming voice training (GAVT) has reduced gender incongruence for transgender and gender-nonconforming (TGNC) individuals, but remains limited by cost and scarcity of specialized providers. Mobile health (mHealth) is a bridge to these access gaps; yet, few high-quality, clinically informed mHealth apps exist within voice clinical sciences.
OBJECTIVE: We previously created a free mobile app (Attuned; Weill Cornell Medicine and Ithaca College) to deliver clinically informed GAVT through structured instructional videos narrated by a speech-language pathologist and a laryngol

Direct-to-consumer (DTC) DNA testing has led to a surge in misattributed parentage discoveries, often referred to as "not parent expected" (NPE) events. While prior research has focused primarily on the experiences of those discovering a parent was not as expected, this qualitative study explores the systemic impact of NPE events on entire families by examining how such discoveries are experienced by multiple family members. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 43 members of 11 families in the United States and Canada, we identified four interrelated processes characterizing family responses to

BACKGROUND: Tapering by gradual dose reduction is a key component of treatment for individuals with addiction to benzodiazepines. Although many patients recover, treatment dropouts and relapses are common. Few studies have explored how benzodiazepine tapering is experienced from the patient perspective.
METHODS: This qualitative study involved semi-structured interviews with 19 adults with addiction to benzodiazepines who were undergoing tapering treatment at a publicly funded outpatient addiction clinic. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.
RESULTS: Participants describ

BACKGROUND: Maintaining privacy in intensive care units (ICUs) is challenging because of high workload, invasive procedures, continuous monitoring and shared care environments. Patients with impaired consciousness may be particularly vulnerable because their ability to express privacy preferences, assert personal boundaries and advocate for themselves is limited.
AIM: To explore intensive care nurses' experiences of protecting privacy when caring for patients with impaired consciousness.

OBJECTIVE: Graves' disease (GD) is an autoimmune thyroid disease, mainly affecting women of working age. The hyperthyroidism in GD is characterised by physical symptoms (tachycardia, weight loss, sweating and tremors) as well as cognitive and psychological problems that have a major impact on the daily lives of patients. Mental symptoms are particularly distressing, with patients expressing a desire for more communication and support for the mental aspects of their care. The aim of this study was to explore the experience of healthcare professionals (HCPs) when providing care and treatment to

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer remains one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality among females worldwide. Despite the advancement of several treatment options such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy to tackle this disease, several women still refuse these allopathic treatment options due to adverse effects posed by these treatment modalities which usually remain poorly identified and managed particularly in low-resourced-constrained settings like those in Sub-Saharan Africa.
AIM: We explored the experiences of Ghanaian women with breast cancer being nursed after undergoing radiot

BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding has health benefits for women and infants. Although the WHO recommends that infants are breastfed exclusively for the first six months, exclusive breastfeeding rates remain low in the UK, with many women stopping breastfeeding within six weeks of their infant's birth. Many women face challenges initiating and continuing breastfeeding, including low confidence, limited support and misinformation. Breastfeeding peer support (BPS) services play a vital role in supporting women to continue to breastfeed by connecting new mothers with trained volunteers who offer advice, e

OBJECTIVE: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a stigmatized and impairing chronic disease frequently diagnosed during adolescence. Adolescents with IBD may benefit greatly from psychosocial support, with early literature indicating effectiveness of formal mentorship programs for mentee-related outcomes. However, limited research has examined the mentor experience within IBD populations. The present study qualitatively examined the perspectives of young adult mentors participating in a peer mentorship program for adolescents with IBD.
METHOD: Young adults with IBD participated as mentors in t

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization’s 2022 estimates reported 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths, reaffirming cancer as the second leading global cause of mortality. Equitable care requires access to prevention, early detection, treatment, and follow-up for all populations. In rural South Africa, access is shaped by structural, economic, systemic, and sociocultural factors. This study explored cancer survivors’ experiences in the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga to understand the barriers they face in obtaining care. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted between November

INTRODUCTION: Depression is one of the leading causes of disability in Chile and significantly affects adults' well-being and social participation. Despite its high prevalence, depression stigma has been scarcely studied in the country. Because its manifestations vary across sociocultural contexts, understanding how it is configured in Chile is essential for developing contextually relevant interventions. Within this framework, depression stigma is examined through its core components -stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination- by analyzing the beliefs, emotions, and behaviors directed toward
