A nationwide questionnaire study evaluated kidney injury associated with Beni-koji tablets in Japan.

Red yeast rice, traditionally used in Asian cuisine and increasingly marketed as a dietary supplement for cholesterol management, has recently been linked to kidney dysfunction in Japan. In late 2023 to early 2024, multiple cases involving specific Beni-koji (red yeast rice) tablets from three different Beni-koji preparations, prompted a safety reevaluation. Although citrinin, a known nephrotoxin of red yeast rice, was not produced by the implicated strains, new safety concerns emerged. Here, we aimed to investigate the clinical, laboratory, and pathological features of affected patients with

AM-301, a barrier-forming nasal spray, versus saline spray in seasonal allergic rhinitis: A randomized clinical trial.

RATIONALE: Saline nasal sprays are frequently used in the management of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) for the cleansing and clearing of aeroallergens from the nasal cavity. Also using a drug-free approach, AM-301 nasal spray is forming a thin film barrier on the nasal mucosa to prevent contact with allergens, trap them, and facilitate their discharge. A clinical trial compared the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of AM-301 and saline spray in SAR. METHODS: A total of 100 patients were randomized 1:1 to self-administer AM-301 or saline 3 × daily for 2 weeks. Primary efficacy endpoint: red

Simulation as Proof of Concept to Assess the Feasibility and Address Uncertainties Regarding Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in an Adolescent Patient With Viral Hemorrhagic Fever.

INTRODUCTION: While general management guidelines exist for patients with viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHF), uncertainty surrounds the extent to which critical care interventions should be provided. There has been significant concern in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a patient with VHF due to concerns regarding CPR efficiency and the safety of the healthcare team. However, data on CPR feasibility, efficiency, and latent safety threats (LSTs) to the healthcare team in patients with VHF needing CPR are lacking. Our team proactively studied this in the simulation environment as the

Safety and efficacy of weight-based ganciclovir dosing strategies in overweight/obese patients.

BACKGROUND: The management of cytomegalovirus (CMV) is particularly challenging as both CMV and its usual first-line treatment, ganciclovir, are associated with neutropenia. Ganciclovir dosing is weight-based, most commonly utilizing total body weight (TBW). The subsequent high doses of ganciclovir in overweight/obese patients may increase the risk of toxicity. Utilizing adjusted body weight (AdjBW) dosing may help mitigate this risk. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the difference in toxicity and efficacy between TBW and AdjBW ganciclovir dosing strategies in overweight/
