The perirhinal-entorhinal cortex, but not the hippocampus, is critical for expression of individual recognition in the context of the Coolidge effect.

The Coolidge effect is a phenomenon in which males show renewed sexual interest in a novel female following copulation to satiety with another female. In golden hamsters, this phenomenon depends on the ability to recognize conspecifics using chemosensory cues processed through the main olfactory system. Here we tested whether olfactory targets in the hippocampal system support this natural form of recognition memory. Male hamsters received ibotenic acid lesions of the perirhinal-entorhinal cortex (PR-ENT) or hippocampus (H) and were allowed to copulate to satiety with a female conspecific, the

[Biographical analysis and myocardial infarct: a study of myocardial infarction patients and 2 reference groups].

In a retrospective case-referent study, 105 male myocardial infarction patients (age: 35-69), 105 hospital referents, and 105 neighbourhood referents, all of the same age, were interviewed with respect to exposure to some psychosocial risk indicators in their lives. These indicators include: Type A coronary-prone behavior pattern; the prevalence of stressful changes in childhood and adolescence, work and career, and family and social life; the syndrome of vital exhaustion and depression, which may precede myocardial infarction. The central question of this study is in what manner and in what c

The Longitudinal Effects of Parenting on Adaptive Behavior in Children with Fragile X Syndrome.

Several studies have reported declines in adaptive behavior amongst children with fragile X syndrome (FXS) starting in middle childhood. We examined the effects of maternal responsivity on adaptive behavior in 55 children with FXS visited 5-6 times in their homes from early through middle childhood. Our analyses indicated that sustained maternal responsivity had a significant positive impact on the trajectories of communication and to a lesser extent other adaptive behavior domains through middle childhood with many effects remaining significant after controlling for autism symptoms and develo

Behavior management training for the treatment of reactive attachment disorder.

Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is a childhood disorder characterized by extremely inappropriate social relating across a variety of interactions that must be present by age 5. Although children diagnosed with RAD appear to demonstrate significantly more behavioral problems and psychosocial difficulties than children without RAD, there have been few examinations of empirically informed treatments for this disorder. One avenue that may be particularly promising is the use of treatments that have been successfully used to decrease similar problematic behaviors in children. The present case st

Teratogenic effects of alcohol in humans and laboratory animals.

The teratogenicity of alcohol has been demonstrated in humans through clinical studies, behavioral studies, and epidemiologic studies, and in animals through controlled laboratory experiments. In humans exposed to alcohol during gestation the effects can range from fetal alcohol syndrome in some offspring of chronic alcoholic women to reduced average birth weight in offspring of women reporting an average consumption of two to three drinks or more per day. The behavioral effects of such exposure may range from mental retardation in children with fetal alcohol syndrome to milder developmental a

The Impact of Self-Sacrificial Leadership on Employee Creativity: A Moderated Mediation Model in the Post-Pandemic Chinese Service Sector.

Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economies and trade of many countries have recovered. Executives in various countries have demonstrated self-sacrificial leadership in response to the pandemic by reducing their salaries, emphasizing solidarity and social responsibility, and setting a good example of how companies can weather a storm. In this context, this study investigated the effects of self-sacrificial leadership on China's service industry. Based on self-determination theory, a moderated mediation model was constructed to investigate the impact on the service industry in China.

ODD: A Benchmark Dataset for the Natural Language Processing Based Opioid Related Aberrant Behavior Detection.

Opioid related aberrant behaviors (ORABs) present novel risk factors for opioid overdose. This paper introduces a novel biomedical natural language processing benchmark dataset named ODD, for ORAB Detection Dataset. ODD is an expert-annotated dataset designed to identify ORABs from patients' EHR notes and classify them into nine categories; 1) Confirmed Aberrant Behavior, 2) Suggested Aberrant Behavior, 3) Opioids, 4) Indication, 5) Diagnosed opioid dependency, 6) Benzodiazepines, 7) Medication Changes, 8) Central Nervous System-related, and 9) Social Determinants of Health. Experiences in Work Relationships: A Measure of Attachment Strategies at Work.

Much of the burgeoning research on adult attachment in organizational settings has utilized assessment methods developed for personal or social relationships contexts. Here, we propose and test a novel framework for assessing attachment orientations in the workplace, the Experiences in Work Relationships-Individual (EWR-I), based on a conceptualization of the regulatory functions of attachment dynamics. Using data from two samples comprising early career starters and employees in the Czech Republic (N = 588 and N = 633) analyses confirmed the bifactorial structure of the new scale correspondin

Classification and Analysis of Multiple Cattle Unitary Behaviors and Movements Based on Machine Learning Methods.

The behavior of livestock on farms is the primary representation of animal welfare, health conditions, and social interactions to determine whether they are healthy or not. The objective of this study was to propose a framework based on inertial measurement unit (IMU) data from 10 dairy cows to classify unitary behaviors such as feeding, standing, lying, ruminating-standing, ruminating-lying, and walking, and identify movements during unitary behaviors. Classification performance was investigated for three machine learning algorithms (K-nearest neighbors (KNN), random forest (RF), and extreme

Forced Gazing: A Stimulus-bound Behavior.

We studied four patients with acquired brain injury who were compelled to gaze at a moving object or the face of an individual who came into their sight, especially the person's eyes. The patients continued to gaze at the object or person until it disappeared from their sight. This behavior, referred to as forced gazing, is related to visual groping (part of the instinctive grasp reaction), and, together with a similar sign of visual grasping, constitutes a spectrum of visual stimulus-bound behaviors. In addition to forced gazing, the patients exhibited a primitive reflex such as a grasp or su

Disentangling multiproblem behavior in male young adults: A cluster analysis.

Multiproblem young adults present with major problems across key life domains, but empirical studies investigating the nature of multiproblem behavior in accordance to ecobiodevelopmental theory are scarce. To address this gap, we performed a cluster analysis on indicators spanning the key life domains addiction, mental health, social network, and justice. In a large sample (N = 680) of multiproblem young adults, we identified five subgroups labeled "severe with alcohol and cannabis problems" (4.3%), "severe with cannabis problems" (25.6%), "severe without alcohol or drug problems" (33.2%), "m

General Criminality as a Marker of Heterogeneity in Domestically Violent Men: Differences in Trauma History, Psychopathology, Neurocognitive Functioning, and Psychophysiology.

This study examined whether involvement in general criminal behavior was a useful marker of critical historic, psychological, and cognitive aspects of heterogeneity in domestically violent men. Two subgroups of domestically violent men, those with (n = 56) and without (n = 54) a history of criminal involvement, were compared with a group of nonviolent men (n = 82) on internalizing psychopathology, substance abuse, maltreatment in the family of origin, cognitive and executive functioning, and psychophysiological factors. Results found that domestically violent criminal men scored higher than th

Getting less than their fair share: Maltreated youth are hyper-cooperative yet vulnerable to exploitation in a public goods game.

Human cooperative behavior has long been thought to decline under adversity. However, studies have primarily examined perceived patterns of cooperation, with little eye to actual cooperative behavior embedded within social interaction. Game-theoretical paradigms can help close this gap by unpacking subtle differences in how cooperation unfolds during initial encounters. This study is the first to use a child-appropriate, virtual, public goods game to study actual cooperative behavior in 329 participants aged 9-16 years with histories of maltreatment (n = 99) and no maltreatment (n = 230) while

ADHD symptomatology, fear of intimacy, and sexual anxiety and behavior among college students in China and the United States.

OBJECTIVE: ADHD is marked by an apparent contradiction in social relationships: Those with the disorder have more difficulty establishing close relationships but report increased rates of risky sexual behavior. Two studies examined the relationship between ADHD symptomatology and fear of intimacy, sexual anxiety, and sexual behavior in college students. METHOD: In the first study, college students in China (n = 300) and the United States (n = 233) completed a series of questionnaires. In the second, 192 American college students completed a follow-up series of measures. RESULTS: In the first

Oral health status of autistic children in India.

UNLABELLED: Autism is one of the most severe childhood neuropsychiatric disorders. Autistic individuals are characterized by impairment in social interaction with a restricted range of interests and often, stereotyped repetitive behaviors. Studies on oral health conditions in children with autism are sparse. The complicated disability itself makes clinical research difficult. AIM: The need for baseline information regarding the oral health status of children with autism is essential. METHOD: The present study assessed the oral health status of 106 autistic children aged 4 to 15 years in Bang

A rapid neuromodulatory role for steroid hormones in the control of reproductive behavior.

The long-term transcriptional actions of steroids that shape neuronal morphology and the probability of behavioral expression are well established. More recently, attention has been focused on the role of rapid (minute-by-minute) steroid actions on neuronal mechanisms of reproductive behavior. In this review, we first consider the rapid actions of steroids on mating and copulatory behaviors in tetrapod vertebrates. Evidence for rapid effects of steroids is presented for chemoinvestigatory behavior (genital sniffing of females by male mice), lordosis (arched-back mating posture in female rats),

Human personality traits are associated with individual environmental traits in male adolescents--a pilot study.

The human personality seems to be formed by biological (internal) and environmental (external) factors, which function interactively. This pilot study examined the relationship between fundamental personality traits and individual environmental traits in healthy adolescents. A complex relationship between personality traits and candidate environmental traits was found in this sample. Parental smoking, one of the hypothetical environmental traits, was significantly associated with the sociability personality trait of adolescent offspring. Another hypothetical environmental trait-parent/child at

Depressive symptoms, drug network, and their synergistic effect on needle-sharing behavior among street injection drug users.

In this study, we examined the relationship between depressive symptoms and needle-sharing behavior in a community sample of intravenous drug users (N = 499) in Baltimore, Maryland. Based on the polytomous logistic regression, higher depressive symptoms were positively associated both with needle sharing after cleaning with bleach and with needle sharing without first cleaning with bleach at the bivariate analyses. This relationship remained significant (OR = 1.66) even after adjusting for demographic characteristics, life events, drug use patterns, and social and drug networks. A significant

Locomotive stereotyped behavior in cynomolgus macaques, Macaca fascicularis.

Primate infants separated from their mothers and kept alone for a long period may exhibit behavioral disorders and develop stereotyped behavior according to genetic predispositions of the infants and environmental factors such as characteristics of the cage. However, it is not clear whether the locomotive and repetitive stereotyped behaviors are related to maternal separation or isolation rearing early in life. The locomotive and repetitive stereotyped behaviors and their relationship were examined with 65 juveniles of cynomolgus macaques kept under artificial conditions. All infants were sepa
