The Use of Visible-Light Hyperspectral Imaging in Evaluating Burn Wounds: A Case Report.

Burn depth is a critical factor in determining the healing potential of a burn as the extent of injury ultimately guides overall treatment. Visible-Light Hyperspectral Imaging is an FDA-approved, noninvasive, and noncontrast imaging technology that uses light waves within the visible spectrum to evaluate skin and superficial soft tissue perfusion. In this case report, visible-light hyperspectral imaging was used to evaluate a 37-year-old male who presented to the Emergency Department with a thermal burn of the trunk, back, and right upper extremity. Images were taken at initial evaluation, 6 h

One-stage transplantation of artificial dermis and autologous split-thickness skin graft for the repair of severe foot trauma: a case report.

For the repair of complex wounds involving bone and joint infections resulting from severe trauma, the conventional approach typically involves a two-stage procedure: initial implantation of an artificial dermis (AD), followed by autologous split-thickness skin grafting (STSG) after 2-3 weeks. This report presents an innovative one-stage technique in which AD and autologous STSG were transplanted simultaneously onto a wound bed prepared with antibiotic-loaded bone cement (ALBC). The patient had sustained multiple open fractures, dislocations, bone defects, and bone and joint infections followi

Influence of iliofemoral ligament laxity on hip joint contact forces during gait.

The iliofemoral ligament (ILFL) is crucial for hip joint stability, and its laxity contributes to hip joint instability. However, the effects of ligament laxity on hip kinetics remain unclear. This study aimed to develop a musculoskeletal model incorporating the ILFL and investigate the effects of ILFL laxity on hip contact forces (HCFs) during gait. Gait data were collected from 22 healthy young adults, and 21 participants with complete data were used for subsequent analyses. A musculoskeletal model incorporating the ILFL was used to investigate HCFs and muscle forces during gait. Statistical

Post-Traumatic Subcutaneous Emphysema of the Upper Extremity Associated with an Open Scapular Fracture: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Subcutaneous emphysema (SE) of the upper extremity is a rare condition, typically associated with penetrating trauma, infections, or chest injuries. Its occurrence following blunt trauma with an isolated scapular fracture is exceedingly uncommon and may mimic more serious conditions such as necrotizing fasciitis. We present a rare case of upper-limb SE associated with an open scapular fracture and propose a diagnostic approach to distinguish benign SE from limb-threatening infections. CASE REPORT: A 65-year-old male presented with pain and swelling in the right upper limb follow

Volar Carpometacarpal Dislocation Associated with Fracture of the Second, Third, and Fourth Metacarpal Bases Treated by Closed Reduction and Percutaneous Fixation: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Volar dislocations of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joints are notably infrequent, attributable to the inherent stability afforded by their osseous morphology and robust volar ligamentous restrictions. When combined with fractures of two or more metacarpal bases, diagnosis and treatment may be delayed. CASE REPORT: A 43-year-old male patient presented with volar dislocation of multiple CMC joints and metacarpal fractures, involving the bases of the second, third, and fourth metacarpals, subsequent to a low-energy fall from a bicycle. The injury was evaluated utilizing plain radiogra

Modified Minimally Invasive Reduction and Osteosynthesis System Technique for Fixation of Distal Radius.

AIM & BACKGROUND: Distal radius fractures are among the most frequently encountered bone injuries. Percutaneous pinning with a modified minimally invasive technique offers a less invasive alternative to conventional surgical interventions. This study aims to evaluate the early functional outcomes of this technique in managing distal radius fractures. Optimal management relies on precise anatomical alignment, minimal soft-tissue disruption, and prompt initiation of wrist rehabilitation. The objective is to assess the early functional outcomes of distal radius fractures treated with percutaneous

Lesion Distribution in the Metacarpophalangeal and Metatarsophalangeal Region of 341 Horses Using Standing Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Pain localised to the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and metatarsophalangeal (MTP) region represents a frequent cause of lameness in sport horses, and standing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of these regions is increasingly being acquired. This multicentre retrospective study describes the ranges of abnormalities identified on standing MRI of the MCP/MTP region and compares patterns of abnormalities between forelimbs, hindlimbs and different sports disciplines. In total, 341 MRI reports were reviewed. Subchondral bone plate irregularities, condylar and proximal phalanx pathologies were frequently

Short-term outcome after treatment of talocrural instability in cats using modified type II transarticular external skeletal fixation.

Transarticular external skeletal fixation (TESF) is repeatedly used for temporary stabilisation of tarsal joint in cats. Hence, this study aimed to evaluate the use of temporary modified type II TESF for management of talocrural instability (TCI) in cats without joint arthrodesis and to rate short-term outcomes and complications. Medical records of all cats treated for TCI between January 2012 and December 2021 were reviewed. Information was collected including signalment, degree of lameness, type of TCI, accompanying soft tissue and bone injuries, and post-operative follow-up assessment inclu

Physiotherapy Rehabilitation of Scapholunate Ligament Instability Following Ganglion Cyst in a Recreational Basketball Player: A Case Report.

Ganglion cysts are prevalent benign soft tissue tumors, commonly occurring on the dorsal wrist and often associated with underlying joint structures like the scapholunate ligament (SLL), a critical stabilizer of the wrist. SLL instability, frequently resulting from acute trauma or repetitive stress, can significantly impair wrist function, causing pain, reduced range of motion, and decreased grip strength. This case report details the conservative management of a 25-year-old recreational basketball player who presented with SLL instability and a dorsal ganglion cyst following two separate wris

Case Report: Medial Clavicle Physeal Injury Mimicking a Posterior Clavicular Dislocation in a Young Adult.

INTRODUCTION: Gas gangrene is a rare, often lethal infection of soft tissue that is commonly associated with the Clostridial species due to penetrating injuries. Case reports of spontaneous atraumatic gas gangrene due to the Clostridium septicum species are exceedingly rare. Atraumatic C. septicum is notably related to bowel pathologies, immunodeficiencies, and individuals with vascular insufficiency. The rapid progression of Clostridium myonecrosis contributes to its high mortality rates. CASE REPORT: The authors report a case of a 71-year-old right-hand-dominant female who developed fulmina

Occupational therapy upper limb splinting practice for clients with acquired brain injuries: A cross-sectional study from South Africa.

INTRODUCTION: Acquired brain injuries (ABIs) form part of the caseload of occupational therapists treating adult clients with neurological conditions. One adjunct to treatment of the upper limb condition following ABI is splinting. Little is known about the occupational therapy splinting practices in this field. This study aimed to describe these practices within a South African context. METHOD: A quantitative, cross-sectional survey design was utilised. A convenience sample of occupational therapists from across South Africa completed a survey. The survey comprised of demographic factors; ty

Imaging of Müller-Weiss Disease.

Müller-Weiss disease (MWD) is the result of a dysplasia of the tarsal navicular bone. Over the adult years, the dysplastic bone leads to the development of an asymmetric talonavicular arthritis with the talar head shifting laterally and plantarly, thus driving the subtalar joint into varus. From a diagnostic point of view, the condition may be difficult to differentiate from an avascular necrosis or even a stress fracture of the navicular, but fragmentation is the result of a mechanical impairment rather than a biological dysfunction.Standardized weight-bearing radiographs (anteroposterior and

Application of Low-Intensity Laser in the Treatment of Skeletal Muscle Injury in Runners.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

With the continuous improvement of people's economic level, running, as the most common sports, is not limited by sports venues and sports levels and deeply loved by people. However, during running, soft tissue resonates with the impact force, increasing the load on joints and tendons and potentially leading to sports injuries. The purpose of this article is to study the application of low-intensity laser in the treatment of muscle strain. This article analyzes running, muscle adjustment, and lower limb stiffness. On the basis of theory, 20 healthy male college students were selected as resear

[Current developments in primary and secondary surgical treatment of midface and periorbital trauma].

Fractures of the periorbita and the midface are among the most common bony facial injuries. Aesthetic and functional reconstruction is a challenge in clinical routine. This article illustrates recent developments in the primary and secondary surgical treatment of midface and periorbital trauma. Resorbable patches and films increase the anatomic reconstructive capacity and enable treatment of extensive orbital fractures. Orbital fractures with involvement of supporting key structures are advantageously reconstructed using patient-specific implants (PSI), which are fabricated by computer-assiste

Implementation of Early Intervention Protocol in Australia for 'High Risk' Injured Workers is Associated with Fewer Lost Work Days Over 2 Years Than Usual (Stepped) Care.

Purpose To evaluate whether a protocol for early intervention addressing the psychosocial risk factors for delayed return to work in workers with soft tissue injuries would achieve better long-term outcomes than usual (stepped) care. Methods The study used a controlled, non-randomised prospective design to compare two case management approaches. For the intervention condition, workers screened within 1-3 weeks of injury as being at high risk of delayed returned to work by the Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire-short version (ÖMPSQ-SF) were offered psychological assessment and

Challenges in Pediatric Trauma: What We All Need to Know About Diaphyseal Forearm Fractures.

Diaphyseal fractures of the radius and ulna are common injuries in children and often result from a fall on an outstretched hand. Fractures are classified by completeness, angular and rotational deformity, and displacement. The goal of management is to correct the deformity to the anatomic position or within acceptable alignment parameters as defined in the literature. This is primarily achieved by closed reduction and immobilization. Greenstick fractures are reduced by rotation of the palm toward the apex of the deformity. Complete fractures are reduced with sustained traction and manipulatio
