Severe Hypersensitivity Reaction to Dermabond Prineo After Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion: A Case Report.

CASE: A 68-year-old woman underwent an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for cervical radiculopathy and subsequently developed a severe contact hypersensitivity reaction in response to Dermabond Prineo, beginning 10 days postoperatively. The Dermabond Prineo mesh was removed, and the patient was treated symptomatically with diphenhydramine, systemic steroids, and oral antibiotics, with complete resolution of her symptoms. CONCLUSION: This is the first reported contact hypersensitivity reaction to Dermabond Prineo in the context of spine surgery. Surgeons should be able to recognize this

Physician collections are 71% less for early onset scoliosis casting than for growing rod instrumentation: A retrospective cohort study.

Growing rod (GR) instrumentation and the elongation, derotation, and flexion (EDF) casting technique are 2 alternatives for the treatment of early-onset scoliosis. Our purpose was to investigate the cost of these treatment options. This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with early-onset scoliosis treated at 2 institutions from 2007 to 2014 with either GR instrumentation or EDF casting. Patients with <2 years of follow-up were excluded. Physician and hospital charges and collections, total procedures, and procedure times until final follow-up or time of fusion were compared. Sonification as a reliable alternative to conventional visual surgical navigation.

Despite the undeniable advantages of image-guided surgical assistance systems in terms of accuracy, such systems have not yet fully met surgeons' needs or expectations regarding usability, time efficiency, and their integration into the surgical workflow. On the other hand, perceptual studies have shown that presenting independent but causally correlated information via multimodal feedback involving different sensory modalities can improve task performance. This article investigates an alternative method for computer-assisted surgical navigation, introduces a novel four-DOF sonification method

Single-level Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion Results in Lower Five-year Revisions than Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy in a Large National Cohort.

STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study using the 2010-2020 MSpine PearlDiver administrative data set. OBJECTIVE: To compare perioperative adverse events and five-year revisions for single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) versus posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Cervical disk disease can often be treated surgically using single-level ACDF or PCF. Prior studies have suggested that posterior approaches provide similar short-term outcomes as ACDF; however, posterior procedures may have an increased risk of revision surgery. MATERIALS AND

Is there an anatomic basis for the different behavior of Lenke types 1AR and 1AL in idiopathic scoliosis? A study on facet joint tropism influence.

INTRODUCTION: AIS type 1 Curves are sub-classified based on the tilt of L4 as 1AR and 1AL. These curves are different w.r.t their curve behavior, progression and level selection. Presently there is no known anatomic etiology for the different behavior. Facet tropism (FT) is defined as the asymmetry between the facet angle of the left and right facet joints. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between facet tropism in the lumbar segments and occurrence of type 1AR and 1AL curves in AIS patients. METHODS: AIS patients with diagnosis of type 1 AR and 1AL right thoracic AIS

[Research Progress in the Application of Ultrasound-Guided Robot in Minimally Invasive Surgery].

With the continuous advances in modern medical technology and equipment, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is widely applied in clinical practice.Ultrasound (US) as a real-time,portable,and radiation-free medical imaging method can be used for the intraoperative guidance in MIS to ensure safe and effective surgery. However, the physical characteristics of conventional US fail to display some tissue structures of the human body due to the existence of gas and bone.US-based navigation can make up for the deficiencies by advanced imaging technologies including spatial orientation, image reconstruction

The Incidence of Vertebral Artery Injury in Cervical Spine Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Previously reported estimates of vertebral artery injuries (VAIs) during cervical spine surgery relied on self-reported survey studies and retrospective cohorts, which may not be reflective of national averages. The largest study to date reports an incidence of 0.07%; however, significant variation exists between different cervical spine procedures. This study aimed to identify the incidence of VAIs in patients undergoing cervical spine procedures for degenerative pathologies. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, a national insurance database was used to access data from t
