Development and validation of a prediction model for hypoproteinemia after traumatic spinal cord injury: A multicenter retrospective clinical study.

A multicenter retrospective analysis of conventionally collected data. To identify the potential causes of hypoproteinemia after traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) and provide a diagnostic model for predicting an individual likelihood of developing hypoproteinemia. Hypoproteinemia is a complication of spinal cord injury (SCI), an independent risk factor for respiratory failure in elderly patients with SCI, and a predictor of outcomes in patients with cervical SCI. Few nomogram-based studies have used clinical indicators to predict the likelihood of hypoproteinemia following TSCI. This multice

Assessing the predictive value of the Risk Analysis Index for short-term outcomes in acute spinal cord injury surgery.

BACKGROUND: Acute traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI) requires rapid surgical intervention to maximize neurological function. Older patients comprise an increasingly larger proportion of SCI patients annually, necessitating accurate preoperative risk stratification tools. This study utilized a frailty-based preoperative risk stratification score to predict adverse events following non-elective neurosurgical intervention for acute tSCI patients. METHODS: The National Inpatient Sample (NIS) was queried for acute tSCI patients aged ≥18 who underwent spine surgery in 2019-2020. The Risk Analysis

Corticothalamic input derived from corticospinal neurons contributes to chronic neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury.

Neuropathic pain is a significant and persistent issue for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI), severely impacting their quality of life. While changes at the peripheral and spinal levels are known to contribute to SCI-related pain, whether and how supraspinal centers contribute to post SCI chronic neuropathic pain is poorly understood. Here, we first validated delayed development of chronic neuropathic pain in mice with moderate contusion SCI. To identify supraspinal regions involved in the pathology of neuropathic pain after SCI, we next performed an activity dependent genetic screen

M2 microglia-derived exosome-loaded electroconductive hydrogel for enhancing neurological recovery after spinal cord injury.

Electroconductive hydrogels offer a promising avenue for enhancing the repair efficacy of spinal cord injuries (SCI) by restoring disrupted electrical signals along the spinal cord's conduction pathway. Nonetheless, the application of hydrogels composed of diverse electroconductive materials has demonstrated limited capacity to mitigate the post-SCI inflammatory response. Recent research has indicated that the transplantation of M2 microglia effectively fosters SCI recovery by attenuating the excessive inflammatory response. Exosomes (Exos), small vesicles discharged by cells carrying similar

Impact of Reach Height on Estimated Rotator Cuff Compression Risk in Manual Wheelchair Users With Spinal Cord Injury.

Reaching is a common daily activity requiring a range of humeral elevation that contributes to rotator cuff compression. The purpose of this study was to estimate supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendon compression risk relative to the acromion and coracoacromial ligament during reaching by manual wheelchair users with spinal cord injury. A cross-sectional design was used to evaluate 8 participants (7 males, median [range] age 36 y [23-61]). Electromagnetic motion capture recorded shoulder kinematics while participants reached for a can at 2 heights: low (0.91 m) and high (1.37 m). Using 1 set
