An evaluation of injury photography practices in Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC).

A review was carried out of injury photography methods in a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). An initial case study review was conducted with a London based SARC where injury photography of sexual assault complainants was routinely undertaken, and has been for over six years. These images are taken by medical staff using 'point and shoot' compact cameras. Following this and to gain an impression of the national picture, a short survey was sent to 58 SARCs to determine the use of photography in capturing injuries, noting the regularity of its use and the specific types of photographic equi

Sexual dysfunction in patients with late complications of hypospadias surgery.

Most hypospadias cases are successfully treated in childhood. Still, patients with sequelae of failed hypospadias repair and sexual dysfunction may be encountered. We evaluated 112 patients with a history of failed hypospadias repair, defined as the presence of voiding symptoms or cosmetic problems remaining despite previous surgery or caused by it. Patients' median age was 29.5 years (range: 18-62). There were no intersex cases. Only 9.8% (11/112) underwent single attempt at surgical reconstruction, the median number of attempts was 3.5 (range: 1-9). Patients with IIEF-EF score ≤25 were consi

Distal Radius Fractures and Bone Health: A Survey of Hand Surgeons.

Following low-energy distal radius fractures (DRF) patients rarely receive a bone health evaluation. The purpose of this survey was to investigate the attitudes and practices of American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) members regarding osteoporosis and low-energy DRF. An electronic survey was sent to 4,125 members of the ASSH. Physicians were asked about referral patterns, comfort level with labs and imaging related to bone health, and barriers. There were 475 responses (response rate 11.5%). Most respondents always (33.1%) or often (32.8%) talk about osteoporosis risk after low-energy

Using a modified nominal group technique to develop complex interventions for a randomised controlled trial in children with symptomatic pes planus.

BACKGROUND: Children with symptomatic flat feet (pes planus) frequently present for care but there remains uncertainty about how best to manage their condition. There is considerable variation in practice between and within professions. We intend to conduct a three-arm trial to evaluate three frequently used interventions for pes planus (exercise and advice, exercise and advice plus prefabricated orthoses, and exercise and advice plus custom made orthoses). Each of these interventions are complex and required developing prior to starting the trial. This paper focusses on the development proces
