Genomic Expansion and Subgenome Expression Divergence of Sugar Transporters During Polyploid Evolution of Bamboos.

Sugar transporters play a pivotal role in photoassimilate partitioning and biomass accumulation in plants. However, how whole-genome duplication (WGD) has reshaped the evolutionary trajectory of the sugar transport system in Bambusoideae remains elusive. Here, we systematically identified and characterized the SUT (Sucrose Transporters) and MST (Monosaccharide Transporters) gene families across 14 bamboo genomes representing four major lineages: herbaceous, temperate woody, neotropical woody and paleotropical woody bamboos. Our results suggest that WGD acted as the primary driving force behind

Transport-related effects on intrinsic and synaptic properties of human cortical neurons: A comparative study.

Transporting human brain tissue blocks or slices from the operating theatre or on-site laboratory to an off-site laboratory may affect sample integrity for electrophysiological studies. In this study, we investigated how a 30-40 min transport influenced the intrinsic, synaptic and morphological properties of human cortical neurons. Electrophysiological recordings were performed on layer 2/3 (L2/3) pyramidal cells and fast-spiking (FS) interneurons from acute human cortical slices (n = 200 neurons from 32 surgeries, in which 112 neurons passed quality control for further analyses). Recordings w

Transient protein structure guides surface diffusion pathways for electron transport in membrane supercomplexes.

The exact biological role of mitochondrial supercomplexes remains debated, particularly their role in guiding redox proteins across membranes during energy conversion. We integrate multiscale modeling and single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to examine electron transfer in mitochondrial supercomplexes composed of complexes III and IV (CIII and CIV). Using bioinformatic and entropy-based methods, we generated structural ensembles capturing conformations of CIII's disordered QCR6 hinge within the yeast CIII2CIV2 supercomplex. Molecular and Brownian Dynamics simulations reveal that

Molecular insight on ultra-confined ionic transport in wetting films: The key role of friction.

Nanofluidic transport is ubiquitous in natural systems, from extracellular communication in biology to geological phenomena, and promotes the emergence of new technologies such as energy harvesting and water desalination. While experimental access to ultraconfined fluids has advanced rapidly, their behavior challenges conventional theoretical descriptions based on Poisson-Boltzmann theory or the Stokes equation, whose possible extension remains an open question. In this study, we use molecular dynamics simulations to investigate ionic transport within wetting films of water confined on silica

Quantum-Influenced Anomalous Electron Transport Induced by Heterocyclic Aromatic Pendants in Polyolefin Dielectrics.

It is generally acknowledged that trap-governed charge transport underlies the dielectric properties of polyolefin dielectrics. However, in heterocyclic aromatic pendant-grafted polypropylene, we observe anomalous phenomena that cannot be accounted for by trap theory, including a discrepancy between the trap depth and the observed dielectric performance. Notably, space charge measurements indicate the presence of micrometer-scale electron transport, far exceeding the nanoscale confinement predicted by trap theory. These counterintuitive phenomena are suggested to arise from quantum transport,

Force-Regulated Multimotor Coordination Drives Bidirectional Lipid Droplets Transport in Tunneling Nanotubes.

Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) mediate intercellular exchange of organelles, yet the mechanical basis of cargo transport in these confined structures remains unclear. Here, we combine optical trapping with confocal imaging to quantify lipid droplet (LD) transport in TNTs. Bidirectional LD movement relies on MTs and is driven by kinesin and dynein. Both transport directions exhibit multimotor cooperation, characterized by trimodal anterograde stall forces (∼2.1, 4.2, 6.3 pN; 1-3 kinesins) and bimodal retrograde forces (∼1.5, 2.9 pN; 1-2 dynins), with conserved ∼8 nm step size. Dynein inhibition eli

Odd-Even Cation Engineering of the Excitation Transport Anisotropy in Two-Dimensional Perovskite Films.

Two-dimensional perovskites have emerged as promising materials for optoelectronic applications owing to their excellent environmental stability and tunable quantum confinement. Such 2D perovskites can incorporate a particularly versatile range of organic cations of different size, chemical nature, and optoelectronic character. However, understanding and controlling thin-film transport for this vast family of materials remains a key challenge to their successful application in devices. Here, we systematically investigate odd-even effects in thin films of Ruddlesden-Popper-type (RP) lead-iodide

Impact of fast ions on turbulent transport in high-β HL-2A tokomak scenarios.

The fast ion (FI) on turbulent transport is one of the key topics of magnetic confinement fusion. This work focus on the impact of FI pressure gradients on turbulence in a high-β plasma scenario using gyrokinetic simulations. Linear analyses reveal that FIs strongly stabilize ion temperature gradient (ITG) modes via the thermal-ion dilution, while their influence on trapped electron modes (TEMs) is minimal. At elevated FI pressure gradients, a transition to a FI-driven BAE (FI-BAE) regime occurs, as evidenced by mode structure and frequency alignment within the Alfvénic gap. Electron β scans f

Spatial Activity Patterning and Topological Defect Transport in Acoustically Energized Active Liquid Crystals.

Patterning activity in space is expected to transform active nematics from chaotic dynamic fluids into reconfigurable materials capable of controlled transport of topological defects. Although some of these capabilities have been investigated in computational models, the experimental realization has been limited by the challenges of reliable generation and modulation of spatiotemporal activity patterns. Here, we report a versatile approach for spatial activity patterning in a quasi 2D acoustically powered active liquid crystal with activity controlled solely by the local confinement height. We

Anion Transport and Selectivity in Ordered Nanoporous Polymers with 1 nm Scale Charged Pores.

Solvated ions of the same valency and charge exhibit minor differences in bulk transport but may display strong ion-specific effects in nanoscale environments. Investigating such effects is challenged by the heterogeneous nature of conventional nanostructured membranes, which can smear out underlying structure-property correlations. We use a combination of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy, NMR relaxometry, and molecular dynamics simulations to systematically investigate anion transport in nanoporous polymers with uniform charged 1 nm scale pores. Thickness-Gated Water and Electron Transport in Near-Critical Ultrathin Polyethylene Membrane Electrodes.

Electrochemical systems are constrained by a materials paradox: chemically robust porous separators are typically hydrophobic and electronically insulating, forcing bulky, carbon-rich interfaces to couple mass transport and electrical contact. Here we show that pushing freestanding porous polyethylene into a near-critical ultrathin regime turns thickness into a geometric gate, enabling these functions to be switched without chemical modification. Near an inferred lower bound (∼10 nm), a 60 nm membrane already enters this regime: liquid-entry pressure collapses into a sub-bar window, enabling a

Structure-transport relationships in MXene-based membranes: from synthesis to selective water treatment.

Two-dimensional laminar membranes with precisely controlled nanochannels have attracted significant attention for overcoming the permeability selectivity trade-off in water purification. Among them, MXene-based membranes exhibit unique advantages arising from their hydrophilic surfaces, rich surface terminations, and tunable interlayer spacing. This review presents MXene synthesis routes, including direct and in situ etching, hydrothermal processing, and emerging green approaches, with emphasis on their influence on flake morphology, surface chemistry, and stacking behavior. Decoupling ferroelectric polarization and charge transport for thermally robust polymer dielectric energy storage.

Polymer dielectrics are vital for high-power electronics, yet their high-temperature application is fundamentally constrained by the inherent trade-offs among thermal stability, polarization retention, and conduction loss. Here, we mitigate these limitations by integrating high-entropy nanofillers with a preferentially oriented, wide-bandgap inorganic nanocoating to construct a multiscale heterointerfacial architecture. Within this design, entropy-driven compositional disorder enhances the structural stability and polarization response of the nanofillers, while the conformal inorganic network

A source-aware chemometric benchmark reveals transportability gaps in heterogeneous lipid nanoparticle data.

Data-driven lipid nanoparticle (LNP) design increasingly relies on heterogeneous datasets assembled across experimental programs, but random-row validation may overstate performance for unseen sources. We developed a source-aware benchmark using 18,326 functional records, 50 coherent assay strata, and 39 publication-defined source domains. LightGBM, logistic regression, and ridge models were evaluated under random-row, exact-ionizable-lipid, descriptor-cluster, and complete source-domain holdout, with preprocessing confined to training folds and metrics aggregated by source. Impact of retrieval method and transport conditions of domestic cat oocytes on In vitro embryo production.

As assisted reproductive technologies in wild felids gain importance, establishing reliable protocols for sample transport becomes a priority. The recent development of ovum pick-up (OPU) techniques in felids has highlighted the lack of standardized protocols for oocyte transport, particularly under field conditions. This study evaluated the effects of oocyte recovery method (slicing vs ex vivo OPU) and oocyte transport conditions on subsequent in vitro developmental competence and embryo production. In an initial experiment, ovaries were stored at 4 °C for 24 h to examine the effect of whole-

ROOT: Region-Word Alignment With Partial Optimal Transport for Open-Vocabulary Object Detection.

Open-vocabulary object detection (OVD) aims to detect novel object concepts by mining region-word correspondences from image-text pairs, yet current methods often produce false correspondences. While some strategies (e.g., one-to-one matching) were proposed to mitigate this issue, they often sacrifice numerous valuable region-word pairs during the matching process. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel comprehensive alignment method, named Region-word Alignment with Partial Optimal Transport (ROOT) framework, which reframes the region-word matching task as a problem of partial distr

A semi-autonomous camera-based system for global monitoring of riverine floating macroplastic transport.

Understanding, predicting and preventing plastic transport through rivers benefits from monitoring and comprehension of the dynamics of plastic transport from an hourly to multi-annual scale. Existing methodologies for the monitoring of plastic transport are not suited for long, continuous observation periods or lack a rigorous comparability between locations. This paper proposes and tests a methodology for the monitoring and quantification of floating macroplastic transport in rivers that is suitable for multi-year periods and comparable between locations. Nonlocal Response in Arrays of Nanoscale Metallic Islands: Fractionalized Entropy and Anomalous Heat Transport.

The surprisingly rich physics of a single Coulomb-blockaded metallic island coupled to quantum Hall edge channels is now well established, giving rise to exotic quantum impurity states. Here, we show that qualitatively new physics emerges in arrays of such elements. Universal and robust behavior emerges for energy scales smaller than the charging energy of the islands. We consider a chain of N metallic islands and find that it displays nonlocal responses. In particular, we demonstrate that for the bulk filling factor of ν=1, the islands could support a finite heat flow without a temperature di

Interface-Dependent Transport and Resistive Switching in TiO2 and TiO2:Co Nanotubes for Resistive Memories.

In this work, TiO2 and TiO2:Co nanotubes were fabricated via electrochemical anodization, using Ti (99.99% purity) and Ti/Co foils as the anode and cathode. Cobalt was deposited onto the Ti foils using the DC magnetron sputtering technique under a working pressure of 2.5 × 10-2 Torr. The resulting nanotubes exhibited wall nodes and an average length of 308.6 ± 13.07 nm for TiO2 and 92.63 ± 2.846 nm for TiO2:Co. The synthesized structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), identifying anatase as the predominant phase, accompanied by an amorphous halo. Two types of MSM devices were f

Coordinated regulation of amino acid metabolism and transport in cereal nitrogen remobilization for grain filling.

Improving nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in cereals is crucial for sustainable agriculture and global food security. Nitrogen remobilization from senescing leaves to developing grains can contribute up to 80% of grain nitrogen content in cereals, though this varies with genotype and environment, making it a critical determinant of both yield and protein quality. This review synthesizes current evidence to highlight that remobilization efficiency emerges not from isolated processes but from the precise coordination between source leaves and sink grains. Specifically, we discuss how efficient nit
