The stuff that nightmares are made of: Israeli dreams in times of the Israel-Hamas war.

This qualitative study explored the mortality salience effect as it manifested in the dreams of Israelis in the aftermath of the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023, and during the ensuing war. Over a two-month period, a sample of 242 dreams was collected via an online survey. Two forms of thematic analysis, namely, inductive and deductive, were utilized. Viewed through the theoretical lens of terror management theory, the findings suggest that exposure to the attack's horrors and the resulting strong mortality salience were reflected in the participants' dream contents. This indicates that

Precision targeted therapy for EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC: Dilemmas and coping strategies.

The most common driver gene mutation in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation. With the introduction of EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors, the treatment prospects and prognosis of NSCLC patients with EGFR-sensitive mutations have significantly improved. Nonetheless, therapies targeting NSCLC are still associated with a risk of primary or secondary nonclassical drug resistance mutations. In recent years, the research and methodology have led to the continuous discovery of new drugs and drug resistance targets. These explorations ha

Adaptive Skills of Individuals with Angelman Syndrome Assessed Using the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, 2nd Edition.

In the current study, we examined adaptive skills and trajectories over time in 257 individuals with Angelman syndrome (AS) using the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, 2nd Edition. Multilevel linear models were used to examine differences between molecular subtypes over time, from one year to 13 years of age, in the adaptive domains of communication, daily living skills, socialization and motor skills. Individuals with non-deletion subtypes typically demonstrated a higher level of adaptive skills compared to those with deletion subtypes. Statistically significant growth was observed in all ad

'How is our job affecting us?' Neonatal Intensive Care Unit healthcare providers and their pregnancy: A descriptive qualitative study.

AIM: The aim of this study was to understand the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) healthcare providers' (HCPs) experiences and needs during their own past, present and desired pregnancies. It has been reported that HCPs' personal and professional lives are mutually interconnected. Given the NICU HCPs' knowledge of the risks and potential adverse outcomes of newborns admitted to the NICU, their pregnancy experience may be more challenging than that of the general population. However, to date, these aspects are still little studied. DESIGN: A qualitative descriptive study design was adopted.

Disentangling cognitive inflexibility in major depressive disorder: A transcranial direct current stimulation study.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive dysfunction is a persistent residual symptom in major depressive disorders (MDDs) that hinders social and occupational recovery. Cognitive inflexibility is a typical cognitive dysfunction in MDD and refers to difficulty in switching tasks, which requires two subcomponents: forgetting an old task and adapting to a new one. Here, we aimed to disentangle the subcomponents of cognitive inflexibility in MDD and investigate whether they can be improved by transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on the prefrontal cortex. METHODS: The current study included 20 patients wi

Active or passive pain coping: Which predicts daily physical and psychosocial functioning in people with chronic pain and spinal cord injury?

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE: Despite medical and psychotherapeutic treatments, chronic pain is one of the most challenging and disabling conditions for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). A growing body of research has demonstrated that pain coping strategies are effective for the adjustment of pain. However, we still lack an understanding of how passive pain coping and active pain coping relate to daily physical and psychosocial functioning for people with chronic pain and SCI. The current study used end-of-day (EOD) diary data to examine associations of passive and active pain coping with same-

Childhood Socioeconomic Status and Cardiometabolic Health: A Test of the John Henryism Hypothesis in African American Older Adults.

BACKGROUND: John Henryism (JH) is a form of active high-effort coping. Low-socioeconomic status (SES) African Americans adopting JH to deal with structural racism and other chronic stressors might be more likely to display cardiovascular disease risk factors. Previous tests of this hypothesis have mostly focused on the moderating role of current SES and hypertension as the outcome variable. Furthermore, most of the previous work has been conducted among young and middle-aged adults. This study aimed at extending work on the JH hypothesis by testing the combined effect of JH and childhood SES o
