Antioxidant Supplementation Alleviates Mercury-Induced Cytotoxicity and Restores the Implantation-Related Functions of Primary Human Endometrial Cells.

Mercury (Hg) cytotoxicity, which is largely mediated through oxidative stress (OS), can be relieved with antioxidants. Thus, we aimed to study the effects of Hg alone or in combination with 5 nM N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) on the primary endometrial cells' viability and function. Primary human endometrial epithelial cells (hEnEC) and stromal cells (hEnSC) were isolated from 44 endometrial biopsies obtained from healthy donors. The viability of treated endometrial and JEG-3 trophoblast cells was evaluated via tetrazolium salt metabolism. Cell death and DNA integrity were quantified following anne

Dietary grape pomace extract supplementation improved meat quality, antioxidant capacity, and immune performance in finishing pigs.

In pig production, reducing production costs and improving immunity are important. Grape pomace, a good agricultural by-product, has been thrown away as food waste for a long time. Recently, we found that it could be used as a new source of pig feed. We investigated the effect of grape pomace on inflammation, gut barrier function, meat quality, and growth performance in finishing pigs. Our results indicated that treatment samples showed a significant decrease in water loss, IL-1β, DAO, ROS, and MDA content (p < 0.05). IgA, IgG, IgM, CAT, T-AOC, SOD, and IFN-γ significantly increased compared w

An Insight into the Impact of Serum Tellurium, Thallium, Osmium and Antimony on the Antioxidant/Redox Status of PCOS Patients: A Comprehensive Study.

Humans exploit heavy metals for various industrial and economic reasons. Although some heavy metals are essential for normal physiology, others such as Tellurium (Te), Thallium (TI), antimony (Sb), and Osmium (Os) are highly toxic and can lead to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), a common female factor of infertility. The current study was undertaken to determine levels of the heavy metals TI, Te, Sb and Os in serum of PCOS females (n = 50) compared to healthy non-PCOS controls (n = 56), and to relate such levels with Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC), activity of key antioxidant enzymes, oxi

NEUROPROTECTIVE AND ANTIOXIDANT POTENTIAL OF MONTELUKAST-ACETYLCYSTEINE COMBINATION THERAPY FOR BRAIN PROTECTION IN PATIENTS WITH COVID-19 INDUCED PNEUMONIA.

Direct critical attack of the coronavirus on the alveoli and the excessive release of a large number of cytokines (IL-6, IL-1, TNF-α, etc.) provides suitable conditions for the further development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and severe acute respiratory failure. Serious decrease in blood oxygenation often lead to the deterioration of macro- and microcirculation, irreversible brain damage and hence, persistent neurological and mental disorders despite background intensive therapy and adequate respiratory support. Therefore, the aim of our open prospective observational study w

Phenolic Antioxidant Protection in the Initial Growth of Cryptocarya alba: Two Different Responses against Two Invasive Fabaceae.

The allelophatic effect of the invasive Fabaceae, Ulex europaeus and Teline monspessulana, on the production of phenolic compounds in C. alba seedlings was investigated. It was expected that the oxidative stress caused by the allelochemicals released by both invaders would induce a differential response in the production of phenolic compounds in C. alba seedlings. These antioxidant mechanisms guaranteed C. alba plants' survival, even to the detriment of their initial growth. Cryptocarya alba seedlings were irrigated with T. monspessulana (TE) and U. europaeus (UE) extracts and water as a contr
