A Systematic Review on the Effectiveness and Safety of Combining Biostimulators with Botulinum Toxin, Dermal Fillers, and Energy-Based Devices.

INTRODUCTION: Aesthetic medicine has evolved towards minimally invasive procedures, with biostimulators like Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA), and Polycaprolactone (PCL) gaining attention for their role in collagen induction, improving skin texture, elasticity, and volume. Combining these agents with other treatments-such as botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, and energy-based devices (e.g. laser and radiofrequency therapies)-is hypothesised to provide enhanced aesthetic outcomes. However, studies on the efficacy and safety of these combinations remain sparse and methodol

Infrared Thermography for Early Detection of Vascular Compromise in Microvascular and Pedicled Flap Reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Early detection of vascular compromise is pivotal for successful microvascular flap reconstruction, as tissue necrosis can begin within 6 to 8 hours of circulatory impairment. Although conventional monitoring relies on subjective clinical assessment of color, temperature, and capillary refill-methods with inherent observer variability and diminished utility in patients with darker skin tones-emerging technologies offer potential for more objective evaluation. This study compared the efficacy of infrared thermography (IRT), a noninvasive modality that quantifies perfusion through pr

Evaluation of a protocol for fitting a wearable master hearing aid.

An experimental protocol for the prescriptive fitting of a wearable master hearing aid was evaluated. The protocol consisted of four stages: (i) acquisition of baseline audiometric data, (ii) fixed test battery using speech-in-noise as the test material, (iii) adaptive adjustments, and (iv) evaluative comparative data. The results showed that systematic improvements in hearing-aid performance were obtained as a result of using the experimental protocol and that the largest improvements were obtained during the fixed-test-battery stage. The protocol in its present form is not clinically practic

The Association Between an Enteral Nutrition Protocol and Achievement of Target Energy Intake in Critically Ill COVID-19 Patients: A Retrospective Observational Study.

Background and objective Enteral nutrition (EN) protocols are commonly used to support energy delivery in critically ill patients. However, to our knowledge, no studies have examined the use of EN protocols in critically ill coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Therefore, we conducted a single-center, retrospective study to examine whether the use of an EN protocol was associated with achieving the target energy intake of 25 kcal/kg/day within seven days after ICU admission in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Methods The retrospective study included critically ill COVID-19 patients b

Fixed Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Antagonist Protocol Versus Flexible Progestin-Primed Ovarian Stimulation Protocol in Patients With Asynchronous Follicular Development During Controlled Ovulation Stimulation: A Retrospective Study.

Protocols utilizing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists have emerged as mainstream procedures for ovarian stimulation; however, GnRH increases the risk for periodic cancellation of embryos. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the pregnancy outcomes of a fixed GnRH antagonist protocol and a flexible progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (fPPOS) protocol in patients with asynchronous follicular development during controlled ovulation stimulation and to explore the feasibility of converting patients undergoing a fixed GnRH antagonist protocol to an fPPOS protocol. This was the fir

Enhanced Gait Variability Index in Neurological and Geriatric Rehabilitation: A Scoping Review.

BackgroundGait variability is a sensitive marker of neuromotor function and a clinically relevant indicator of fall risk and mobility impairment in neurological and geriatric populations. The Enhanced Gait Variability Index (eGVI) has emerged as a promising composite measure that captures multidimensional gait irregularity in a single interpretable score, offering a practical advantage over single-parameter approaches. Despite growing clinical interest, the evidence base supporting its standardized implementation has not been mapped.ObjectivesTo characterize populations and clinical contexts w

Mechanisms and clinical application of photobiomodulation in pain therapy: a mini review.

Chronic pain remains a major clinical challenge, creating a need for safe, non-pharmacological interventions. This narrative mini-review examines two light-based approaches that differ in their sites of action and treatment parameters: visual-light exposure and local red or near-infrared light-emitting diode photobiomodulation. Visual-light exposure acts through retinal and central neural circuits, including pathways involving the ventrolateral geniculate nucleus, dorsal raphe nucleus, periaqueductal gray, medial secondary visual cortex, and anterior cingulate cortex. Its effects are wavelengt

Evaluating Acupuncture for Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: A Narrative Review of Clinical Evidence and Mechanistic Perspectives.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Despite the high prevalence of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathic pain (CIPNp), its management remains challenging, and reliable preventive strategies are still lacking. Current treatment is largely symptomatic and often provides only modest benefits, as available pharmacological therapies have shown limited and inconsistent efficacy. In this context, acupuncture has been investigated as a non-pharmacological intervention, but the certainty and clinical applicability of the available evidence remain unclear. This critical narrative review examines the clinical e

Assessing the clinical relevance of finite element models in MARPE-induced behaviour of craniofacial structures: a biomechanical review.

Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion (MARPE) has become a widely adopted non-surgical approach for correcting maxillary transverse deficiency (MTD) in adolescents and adults. Despite its clinical success, outcomes remain highly variable, with complications such as asymmetric expansion, miniscrew loosening, and midfacial fractures influenced by patient-specific anatomical and mechanical factors. Finite Element Method (FEM) models have been increasingly used to simulate MARPE-induced craniofacial responses, offering insight into stress distribution, displacement patterns, and mechanical th

Which physical activity in patients affected by hypoparathyroidism? A review of the literature and practical recommendations.

BACKGROUND: Hypoparathyroidism (HypoP) is a rare endocrine condition characterized by hypocalcaemia and hyperphosphatemia, as a consequence of absent or improperly low parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Patients affected by HypoP have a clinical condition often characterized by paresthesias and muscle spasms, as well as long-term consequences as nephrolithiasis, extraskeletal calcification, and fractures. In the literature, likely due to these symptoms, few data exist regarding the appropriate physical activity (PA) in subjects suffering from HypoP. PURPOSE: This review evaluates the literatur

Why We Must Prevent and Appropriately Manage Delirium.

Delirium is common and increases in prevalence with age and medical complexity. A form of acute brain dysfunction, its presence is associated with significant morbidity, such as cognitive impairment, decreased mobility, depression, and institutionalization, as well as mortality. Many organizations have developed clinical protocols to prevent and treat delirium and what are called "cognitive-friendly" policies to care for elderly patients.
