The charts of 100 adolescents admitted to a special unit of a provincial psychiatric hospital were reviewed. These patients primarily had a conduct disorder (71.6% of boys and 77.5% of girls) or an affective disorder (6.6% of boys, 15.0% of girls). There was a higher incidence of congenital disorders in the population than expected, suggesting that such disorders may predispose to psychological troubles later in life. Eighteen families were followed up for four to six weeks after one member of each family was diagnosed as having an adenovirus infection. Convulsions are characteristic of magnesium deficiency and hypocalcemia. In this study, weanling rats were fed magnesium deficient diets with varying concentrations of calcium and phosphorus. Diets were either normal (Mg =) or low (Mg-) in magnesium and were either low (Ca- or P-), normal (Ca = or P =) or high (Ca+ or P+) in calcium or phosphorus. Clonidine and doxepin alleviate the symptoms of the opiate withdrawal syndrome. The clinical findings for 105 children hospitalized with adenoviral infection were studied prospectively. In 82 children, the diagnosis was based on the detection of adenovirus antigen in the nasopharyngeal specimens and in 17 children in the feces. A large outbreak of campylobacter enteritis associated with the consumption of free school milk is described.
