Latent Tuberculosis and Associated Factors Among Adults Living With HIV in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is more frequent among people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (PLHIV), in whom immunosuppression favors reactivation. However, data from sub-Saharan Africa remain limited. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of LTBI and identify its associated factors among adults living with HIV in Kinshasa. METHODS: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted between May 2022 and October 2025 in nine HIV care centers in Kinshasa. Adult HIV-positive patients were consecutively recruited. LTBI was screened using the tuberculin skin

Long-term stability and reproducibility of frozen plasma control samples for hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and human immunodeficiency virus by quantitative PCR: Implications for retrospective testing in hemovigilance.

OBJECTIVE: Data on the long-term stability and reproducibility of nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT) results in frozen stored positive samples (≤-20°C) remain limited. This study evaluated the long-term performance of frozen virus-positive samples in quantitative PCR assays and aimed to provide evidence for their analytical reliability in retrospective NAT and quality assurance. Because blood transfusions, despite their high safety, still carry a residual risk of transmission of blood-borne viruses, these data may also be relevant for look-back investigations in hemovigilance. An Indoor Accessibility Assessment Framework Based on Multimodal Sensing and Explainable Machine Learning: A Case Study of a Tactile Museum for People with Visual Impairments.

As accessibility development in public buildings has gradually shifted from facility compliance toward experience- and performance-oriented evaluation, the quantitative assessment of indoor mobility experiences among blind users still lacks a systematic sensor-supported analytical framework. To address this gap, this study proposes an indoor accessibility assessment approach that integrates multi-sensor data acquisition with explainable machine learning, using a tactile museum as the experimental setting. Sixty-four participants with first-level blindness were recruited to complete a real-worl

Emergency Department Syndromic Surveillance Diagnostic Code Selection for Assessing Severity of Seasonal Influenza in New South Wales, Australia.

BACKGROUND: Emergency department (ED) syndromic surveillance (EDSyS) often relies on preliminary or ED discharge diagnosis codes as indicators of influenza, but few studies provide a justification for their selection. This retrospective analytical study aimed to optimise the selection of diagnostic codes in EDSyS for monitoring influenza activity and severity. METHODS: Diagnostic codes potentially relating to a respiratory infection and assigned to people presenting to over 180 EDs in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, were grouped into 16 mutually exclusive 'ED Syndromes'. Diabetic immune dysfunction and severe influenza: A comprehensive narrative review with clinical implications.

Diabetes mellitus is among the strongest independent risk factors for severe influenza, hospitalization, and influenza-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The mechanistic basis of this association, and its clinical implications for immunomodulatory therapy, has been examined extensively in basic immunology and virology but is rarely synthesized for the practicing intensivist. This narrative review synthesizes the mechanistic basis by which diabetes predisposes to severe influenza and to translate the established pathogen-driven versus host-driven lung injury framework into a

ConSeqUMI, an error-free nanopore sequencing pipeline to identify and extract individual nucleic acid molecules from heterogeneous samples.

Nanopore sequencing has revolutionized genetic analysis by offering linkage information across megabase-scale genomes. However, the high intrinsic error rate of nanopore sequencing impedes the analysis of complex heterogeneous samples, such as viruses, bacteria, complex libraries, and edited cell lines. Achieving high accuracy in single-molecule sequence identification would significantly advance the study of diverse genomic populations, where clonal isolation is traditionally employed for complete genomic frequency analysis. Here, we introduce ConSeqUMI, an innovative experimental and analyti
