Serum-Soluble Human Leukocyte Antigen-G Serves as a Biomarker for Early Gastric Cancer Screening among the Elderly People.

INTRODUCTION: Gastric cancer is a major cause of gastrointestinal cancer deaths, and early detection is key to improving survival. Current diagnostic methods have limitations, highlighting the need for new biomarkers. Our study aimed to explore the potential of serum-soluble human leukocyte antigen-G (sHLA-G), pepsinogen I/pepsinogen II (PGI/PGII) ratio (PGR), and gastrin-17 (G17) as markers for diagnosing and monitoring gastric cancer progression. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted to analyze serum levels of sHLA-G, PGR, and G17. These levels were compared among various gastric con

Comparing clinical decision support systems for improving follow-up of abnormal cervical cancer screening test results.

BACKGROUND: Many individuals with abnormal cervical cancer screening test results do not receive timely follow-up care. Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) to improve follow-up are challenged by difficulty identifying clinical elements and applying complex guideline recommendations. As part of a multisite trial, two CDSS models were implemented: one used natural language processes to evaluate extracted data outside of the electronic health record (EHR) (System A); the other used commercial EHR functionality using LOINC-defined result fields (System B). This secondary analysis compared the

Plasma lipidomic analysis reveals disruption of ether phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis and facilitates early detection of hepatitis B-related hepatocellular carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third deadliest malignant tumor worldwide. Most patients are initially diagnosed as HCC at advanced stages and are too late for radical treatment by surgery, resulting in poor prognosis. Over 50% of the HCC patients are caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Therefore, effective early identification of HCC in the high-risk population with HBV infection is crucial for early intervention of HCC. METHODS: We employed plasma lipidomics to identify critical lipid classes associated with tumorigenesis in the high-risk population with HBV infec

The cervical cancer screening program in the North of Portugal: Outcomes after nearly two decades of coexistence with the human papillomavirus vaccine.

As the first vaccinated cohorts are gradually becoming eligible for cervical cancer screening (CCS), changes in the distribution of high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection and associated disease endpoints are expected to occur. We aimed to describe the clinical outcomes of the Regional CCS Program of the North of Portugal in the latest years and to estimate the impact of different hrHPV genotypes on the occurrence of cervical neoplasia. Secondary data collected from the Regional CCS Program of the North of Portugal between January 2019 and December 2024 was used. Descriptive analysis

Optimisation of a Cervical Cancer Screening Model Based on Self-Sampling for Human Papillomavirus Testing.

IntroductionCervical cancer remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among women globally, despite the availability of effective prevention tools. The use of self-sampling devices for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is a promising strategy to increase screening participation, particularly in settings dominated by opportunistic models. Understanding women's preferences regarding invitation methods and device design is essential to ensure effective and equitable programme implementation. This study explored the expectations, preferences, and perceived barriers of women aged 35 t

Precision patient selection for improved detection of circulating genetically abnormal cells in pulmonary nodules.

Circulating genetically abnormal cells (CACs) have emerged as a promising biomarker for the early diagnosis of lung cancer, particularly in patients with pulmonary nodules. However, their performance may be suboptimal in certain patient populations. This study aimed to refine patient selection to improve the detection of CACs in pulmonary nodules. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 241 patients with pulmonary nodules who had undergone pathological diagnosis through surgical tissue specimens. Utilizing consensus clustering analysis, the patients were categorized into three distinct clust

Scoping review protocol on the perception and attitude of women on methods for collecting cervicovaginal samples for human papillomavirus testing in sub-Saharan Africa.

INTRODUCTION: Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) regions have the highest burden of cervical cancer (CC), accounting for nearly a quarter of global mortality. Many women in SSA are reluctant to access CC screening because they are uncomfortable exposing their private parts to healthcare providers. The perception of women who have experienced self-sampling in SSA is yet to be reviewed. This scoping review will explore the literature on the perception and attitude of women towards methods of collecting cervicovaginal samples for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing in SSA. A decade-long study on pathological distinctions of resectable early versus late onset colorectal cancer and optimal screening age determination.

The incidence of Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer (EOCRC) is increasing. However, the prognosis of EOCRC compared to Late-Onset Colorectal Cancer (LOCRC), and the ideal age for initial colorectal cancer (CRC) screening are not clear. In this study, we identified the pathological differences between the groups and determined the optimal screening age for CRC patients. We included 10,172 patients diagnosed with CRC from January 2011 to December 2021 in this study. Survival differences were compared by plotting Kaplan-Meier survival curves and conducting landmark analysis. Additionally, the diagnost
