We describe a 15-year-old girl with congenital simple hamartoma of the retinal pigment epithelium associated with congenital retinal arterial macrovessel crossing the macular region. To our knowledge, there are no reports of this association.

BACKGROUND: To document the long-term follow-up of patients with circumscribed choroidal hemangioma who were treated with verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT).
METHODS: Fifteen patients were included in a prospective interventional case series. Verteporfin PDT as a bolus infusion of 6 mg/m body surface area and a light dose of 100 J/cm at 689 nm applied over 166 seconds were administered. Standardized evaluation was performed every 3 months within the first year and at 12-month intervals during follow-up.

A patient presented with acute primary angle closure glaucoma with markedly elevated intraocular pressure. Two weeks after laser peripheral iridotomy and resolution of the acute attack, the patient was noted to have developed scattered retinal haemorrhages. The haemorrhages resolved over time with no visual sequelae. This is the first reported case of ocular decompression retinopathy after resolution of acute primary angle closure glaucoma.

Cystoid macular edema (CME) is a classical complication of ocular inflammation. This syndrome was already described by Irvine in 1953 but the pathogenesis of this condition remains unclear. Cystoid macular edema can result either from a rupture of the inner or from the outer blood ocular barrier.
