Psychological factors related to temporomandibular disorders: an evaluation of students preparing for college entrance examinations.

The aim of this study was to research how stress and anxiety affected the development of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in 55 high school graduates at two different times: six months before and one the week before their college entrance examinations. The American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP) Questionnaire, Lipp's Stress for Adults Inventory (ISSL) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used to evaluate TMD, stress and anxiety, respectively. The data were submitted to Pearson's and Spearman's correlation tests. At first the results showed higher positive correlation between anxiety an

Acute headache treatment in idiopathic intracranial hypertension: treating to the phenotype?

BACKGROUND: Effective acute headache treatment is essential for improving the quality of life in people with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (pwIIH). While current guidance recommends “treat to the phenotype”, robust data on effectiveness of available options is lacking. METHODS: This retrospective analysis used standardized symptom diaries of pwIIH from the Vienna Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (VIIH) database (1-JUL-2021 to 30-JUN-2023). Three classes of acute medications (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAID], acetaminophen [APAP], and triptans) were analyzed, with NSAIDs

Hyperdense Vessel Sign in Brain Computed Tomography as an Early Indication of Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome.

We herein report a case of reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) with an unusual presentation of hyperdense blood vessels. A 53-year-old woman developed thunderclap headache. Brain computed tomography (CT) showed hyperdensity of the anterior cerebral artery. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed cerebral infarctions in the left anterior cerebral artery (ACA) territory and cerebellum. The left ACA presented with a hyperintense vessel sign, although magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) appeared normal. One week later, stenotic changes were confirmed using MRA. The vasoconstric

Migraine versus tension-type headache in automatic emotional processing: A visual mismatch negativity study.

OBJECTIVE: It is important to discriminate different headaches in clinical practice, and neurocognitive biomarkers may serve as objective tools. Several reports have suggested potential cognitive impairment for primary headaches, whereas cognitions within specific domains remain elusive, e.g., emotional processing. In this study, we aimed to characterize processing of facial expressions in migraine and tension-type headache (TTH) by analyzing expression-related visual mismatch negativity (EMMN) and explored whether their processing patterns were distinct. METHODS: Altogether, 73 headache pati

Genetic Overlap Analysis Identifies a Shared Etiology between Migraine and Headache with Type 2 Diabetes.

Migraine and headache frequently co-occur with type 2 diabetes (T2D), suggesting a shared aetiology between the two conditions. We used genome-wide association study (GWAS) data to investigate the genetic overlap and causal relationship between migraine and headache with T2D. Using linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC), we found a significant genetic correlation between migraine and T2D (rg = 0.06, p = 1.37 × 10−5) and between headache and T2D (rg = 0.07, p = 3.0 × 10−4). Using pairwise GWAS (GWAS-PW) analysis, we identified 11 pleiotropic regions between migraine and T2D and 5 pleiot
