Randomized trial testing a worksite sun protection program in an outdoor recreation industry.

Health communication campaigns intended to reduce chronic and severe exposure to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight and prevent skin cancer are a national priority. Outdoor workers represent an unaddressed, high-risk population. Go Sun Smart (GSS), a worksite sun safety program largely based on the diffusion-of-innovations theory, was evaluated in a pair-matched, group-randomized, pretest-posttest controlled design enrolling employees at 26 ski areas in Western North America. Employees at the intervention ski areas were more aware of GSS (odds ratio [OR] = 8.27, p < .05) and reported less sunbu

Identifying central and bridge symptoms between fear of COVID-19 and depression: a network analysis using FCV-19S and PHQ-9.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a global mental health crisis, with fear and depression emerging as two of the most prevalent psychological responses. However, how specific symptoms of fear and depression interact within individuals remains unclear. Symptom-level network analysis provides a novel framework for clarifying these relationships and identifying actionable intervention targets. METHODS: Network analysis was used to examine item-level associations between fear of COVID-19 (assessed using the Fear of COVID-19 Scale [FCV-19S]) and depression (assessed using the Patient Hea

Toxicity of tungsten and molybdenum disulphide particles after acute and subacute exposure in vitro.

Tungsten (W) and molybdenum disulphide (MoS₂) particles are increasingly used industrially, but may pose potential health risks, particularly following inhalation in occupational settings. Existing data is inconsistent but there is evidence that these particles are genotoxic. Therefore, there is a need to further increase our understanding on their toxicity and underlying mechanisms. To this end, we tested W and MoS2 particles in two human cell models, in vitro bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) and monocyte-derived macrophages (dTHP-1) after acute exposure (24 h), but we also investigated e

Latent profiles of professional identity and sleep quality and associations with anxiety symptoms among emergency nurses.

BACKGROUND: Emergency nurses are exposed to sustained occupational stress and are at high risk for anxiety symptoms. Professional identity and sleep quality are both closely related to mental health; however, most existing studies have adopted variable-centered approaches that may obscure meaningful heterogeneity within this population. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among registered emergency nurses at a tertiary teaching hospital in China between March and June 2024. Participants completed questionnaires assessing professional identity (Professional Identity Scale for Nurse

A multimodal multi-agent LLM framework for identifying key drivers of sleep disorders.

INTRODUCTION: Sleep quality and sleep disorders are influenced by interacting lifestyle, behavioral, physiological, and occupational determinants, but most existing studies examine these factors in isolation. Traditional statistical methods may be limited in modeling complex interactions, while many machine-learning approaches remain insufficiently interpretable for clinically meaningful sleep research. METHODS: We developed an interpretable large language model (LLM)-based multi-agent multimodal framework for sleep disorder analysis. The framework includes three specialized agents: a Data An

Assessment of hydrogen sulfide exposure in shoreline cleanup workers during the 2025 Atlantic Sargassum bloom.

Since 2011, massive blooms of pelagic Sargassum spp. have emerged as a recurrent environmental crisis across the tropical Atlantic. Along affected coastlines, thousands of tons can accumulate annually, releasing toxic gases during anaerobic decomposition and posing potential health risks. Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is of concern due to its adverse effects on the respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal, and ocular systems. This study quantified H₂S exposure among Sargassum cleanup workers in the Mexican Caribbean during the unprecedented 2025 bloom, the largest recorded to date. 35 workers were

Digital governance pressure and digital burnout among grassroots public sector employees: the mediating roles of cognitive load and negative affect.

Digital technologies are reshaping public governance. Although they can improve administrative efficiency, service delivery, and governance capacity, they may also create occupational health risks for public sector employees. Existing research on digital burnout has largely focused on general technology-use settings, with limited attention to its formation in the public sector, especially among grassroots public sector employees. Drawing on the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) model and cognitive-affective theory, we examine how digital governance pressure is associated with digital burnout in
