We report herein the rare case of a 26-year-old woman who developed a small-bowel obstruction caused by a medication "bezoar" or enterolith, following the long-term ingestion of magnesium oxide cathartics for constipation. Medication bezoars resulting from laxatives or cathartics have rarely been reported and we were only able to find two other such cases in the literature.

We report a rare case of an isolated inverted Meckel's diverticulum presenting with acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage. The radiographic appearances simulated a pedunculated small bowel polyp. The operation notes and pathology records of 294 consecutive patients who had right hemicolectomy for Crohn's disease were reviewed. A Meckel's diverticulum was found in 17 (5.8%) of these patients, 2-3 times the expected rate in the general population. At least 50% of diverticula in the normal population contain heterotopic mucosa, but none was found in those diverticula that were examined from this group. A new technique for electroincision of a strictured ureterointestinal anastomosis is described that uses a sphincterotome and high frequency current. After placement of a percutaneous nephrostomy tube a 7F "wire guided" sphincterotome was placed into the stenosis. The authors report 10 cases of gastrointestinal bleeding angiodysplasia (4 male and 6 female). Report of two cases of eosinophilic gastroenteritis. In both cases the presentation was an acute abdomen syndrome. The etiological diagnosis was postoperative, because in the preoperative period there were no data characteristic of this entity. Probably this disease is more frequent than reported and although the treatment is medical, there are some cases in which surgery is justified.

Extrophic lesions of the ventral abdominal wall are represented by a range of anomalies of which the most severe is cloacal extrophy. By 1986, only 190 cases were reported in the world literature and it is estimated that only 15 cases are seen in the United States of America per year. In Nigeria today, with improvement in antenatal and perinatal services, children who one or two decades ago would have been stillborns or products of miscarriages are now born alive. This paper reports a case of cloacal extrophy in a Nigerian neonate and reviews the current management of the condition.

The results of surgical treatment of 42 children with Hirschsprung's disease are analysed. The authors describe unusual 2-stage techniques of the perineal part of Duhamel's operation, consisting in primary downward transposition of the colon excess to the perineum and its subsequent (14 days later) removal with the formation of an intestinal intrapelvic wedge anastomosis. The method was applied in 23 children. A method of small intestinal proctoplasty in reconstructive operations in unfavourable anatomical variants of the colon is also described; it was carried out successfully in 2 patients.

The ileo-caecal continent urostomy was first described in 1975. It is a combination between an ileo-caecal reservoir and an ileal hydraulic valve. From 1973 to 1986 we performed 107 such operations (41 for vesicovaginal fistula, 40 for bladder tumor, 26 for bladder exstrophy, neurogenic bladder and miscellaneous).
