Endometriosis and Its Myriad Presentations: Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Based Pictorial Review.

Endometriosis is a major cause of infertility and pain in females in the reproductive age group. It is a result of ectopic functional endometrial cells outside the uterus. It consists of a spectrum of findings from superficial to deep implants initiating a fibrotic response and resulting in adhesions. Diagnosis of endometriosis is based on clinical history, noninvasive and invasive techniques. The final diagnosis is based on laparoscopy with histopathological confirmation. Ultrasonography is the first line of investigation, followed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in complex cases. MRI is

Magnetic resonance image diagnosis of femoral head necrosis based on ResNet18 network.

PURPOSE: In order to enhance the practicability of the application of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of femoral head necrosis, combined with the convolutional neural network (CNN), we propose an automatic identification of femoral head necrosis model based on the ResNet18 network. METHODS: In order to verify that MRI has a higher detection rate for early femoral head necrosis, we collected 360 cases of femoral MRI and the same number of femoral CT. Combining this method with ResNet18, AlexNet, and VGG16, compare the clinical staging and typical signs of femoral head necrosi

Predictors of Spondylolysis on Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Adolescent Athletes With Low Back Pain.

BACKGROUND: Spondylolysis and undiagnosed mechanical low back pain (UMLBP) are the main causes of low back pain (LBP) in adolescent athletes. No studies have evaluated the difference in clinical and radiographic factors between these 2 conditions. Furthermore, it remains unclear which adolescent athletes with LBP should undergo advanced imaging examination for spondylolysis. PURPOSE: To compare the clinical and radiographic factors of adolescent athletes with spondylolysis and UMLBP who did not have neurological symptoms or findings before magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluation and to de

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Reveals Incipient Cardiomyopathy Traits in Adult Patients With Phenylketonuria.

Background Phenylketonuria is the most common inborn error of amino acid metabolism, where oxidative stress and collateral metabolic abnormalities are likely to cause cardiac structural and functional modifications. We aim herein to characterize the cardiac phenotype of adult subjects with phenylketonuria using advanced cardiac imaging. Methods and Results Thirty-nine adult patients with phenylketonuria (age, 30.5±8.7 years; 10-year mean phenylalanine concentration, 924±330 µmol/L) and 39 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were investigated. Participants underwent a comprehensive cardiac ma

Advanced magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy in a case of neurocysticercosis from North America.

Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is a parasitic infection caused by Cysticercus cellulosae, the metacestode of pork tapeworm (Taenia solium). NCC is one of the most common public health problems worldwide. We present a patient harboring a bilobed ring-enhancing lesion with a presumed diagnosis of brain metastasis, who returned to the USA after traveling to an endemic region. The diagnosis of NCC was established based on a characteristic resonance of succinate on proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Also, higher mean diffusivity and lower fractional anisotropy along with relative cerebral blood volu

Magnetic resonance imaging features of COVID-19-related cranial nerve lesions.

The complete features of the neurological complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) still need to be elucidated, including associated cranial nerve involvement. In the present study we describe cranial nerve lesions seen in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of six cases of confirmed COVID-19, involving the olfactory bulb, optic nerve, abducens nerve, and facial nerve. Cranial nerve involvement was associated with COVID-19, but whether by direct viral invasion or autoimmunity needs to be clarified. The development of neurological symptoms after initial respiratory symptoms and the abs

A case report of generalized lymphangiomatosis with chylopericardium: the crucial role of magnetic resonance lymphangiography.

BACKGROUND: Chylopericardium due to generalized lymphangiomatosis is a rare clinical entity. Its aetiology and treatment remain unclear. CASE SUMMARY: We report one case of a 51-year-old man who was diagnosed with generalized lymphangiomatosis with idiopathic chylopericardium by bilateral inguinal intranodal contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance lymphangiography. Magnetic resonance lymphangiography demonstrated abnormal communications between the pericardial sac and the thoracic duct. The patient with idiopathic chylopericardium was therefore successfully treated by exclusive surgical ligation
