Distinct Histopathological and Transcriptomic Signatures of Central Compartment Atopic Disease.

INTRODUCTION: Central compartment atopic disease (CCAD) is a distinct phenotype of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) characterized by central polypoid changes and a strong association with allergy. While its clinical presentation is established, its specific histopathological features and transcriptomic profile remain poorly characterized. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the pathological and molecular profiles of CCAD in comparison to other CRS subtypes. METHODS: In this multicenter retrospective study, 221 eligible CRS patients were stratified into four phenotypes: CCAD (n = 48), sin

Yes-Associated Protein Drives Helicobacter pylori-Induced Metaplastic Changes in Gastric Epithelium.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Helicobactor pylori infection triggers a spectrum of metaplastic changes in the gastric epithelium; however, the upstream regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. In human gastric epithelial models, H pylori cytotoxin-associated gene A-dependent signaling stabilized and activated yes-associated protein, thereby promoting metaplastic reprogramming of the gastric epithelium. METHODS: Human gastric tissue specimens were obtained from patients at Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine. Human gastric epithelial cell lines (AGS, MKN74, N87, KATO III) and 8- to 10-

Factors associated with type 1 gastric neuroendocrine tumor occurrence in autoimmune atrophic gastritis: insights from a real-world cohort.

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is characterized by chronic inflammation and represents a key step in the multistage precancerous process of the stomach. Patients with AIG are at increased risk of developing type I gastric neuroendocrine tumors (T1gNETs), but clinical and histological associated factors still remain incompletely defined. AIM: To evaluate the occurrence of T1gNETs in our AIG patients cohort and to identify clinical, biochemical, and histological factors associated with tumor development. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of histologically confirmed AIG followed at Humani

Pathogenesis of Warthin's Tumors: A Critical Synthesis of the Evidence.

PURPOSE: Warthin tumor (WT) is the second most common benign parotid neoplasm, and its reported incidence has risen over recent decades, with a narrowing male predominance that parallels tobacco exposure trends. Whether WT is a true clonal neoplasm or a metaplastic process remains contested. We synthesize contemporary evidence on WT pathogenesis into a unified framework and articulate its diagnostic implications. METHODS: Critical narrative synthesis. We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science from inception through May 16, 2026 for "Warthin tumor" and its synonyms combined with s

Optical Imaging Technologies and Clinical Applications in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Optical imaging technologies expand gastrointestinal endoscopy beyond white-light endoscopy (WLE), improving visualization of mucosal, vascular, and subsurface features. They are applied to the detection of neoplastic and premalignant lesions, inflammatory diseases, and small bowel and pancreatic disorders, though their validation and readiness for routine practice vary. This review critically evaluates both guideline-endorsed and investigational optical imaging techniques across major gastrointestinal indications, highlighting diagnostic performance, level of validation, current guideline rec

Epithelial miR-149-5p up-regulation is associated with immune evasion in progressive bronchial premalignant lesions.

UNLABELLED: The molecular drivers bronchial premalignant lesion progression to invasive lung squamous cell carcinoma are not well defined. Prior work profiling longitudinally collected bronchial premalignant lesion biopsies by RNA sequencing defined a proliferative subtype, enriched with bronchial dysplasia. We found that a gene co-expression module associated with interferon gamma signaling and antigen processing/presentation was down-regulated in progressive/persistent versus regressive lesions within the proliferative subtype, suggesting a functional impact of these genes on immune evasion.

Airway epithelial cell-specific deletion of EGFR modulates mucoinflammatory features of cystic fibrosis-like lung disease in mice.

Mucoinflammatory lung disease in cystic fibrosis (CF) is characterized by airway surface liquid (ASL) layer dehydration and mucins hyperconcentration, which leads to airway obstruction, inflammation, bronchiectasis, and increased susceptibility to recurrent bacterial infections. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is known to regulate airway mucous cell metaplasia (MCM) and mucins expression, but the role of EGFR pathway in the pathogenesis of CF-like lung disease remains unclear. Therefore, we hypothesized that airway epithelial cell-specific deficiency of EGFR mitigates mucoinflammatory

Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Lavage for the Treatment of Calcific Tendinopathy of the Supraspinatus: A Comprehensive Approach.

Calcific tendinopathy of the supraspinatus is a common shoulder condition, characterized by calcium deposits in the supraspinatus tendon, part of the rotator cuff. This condition leads to pain, functional limitations, and a reduced quality of life. Its etiology is multifactorial, involving degenerative processes, metabolic alterations, and biomechanical factors. Ultrasound-guided percutaneous lavage (UGPL) is an emerging treatment option to remove calcium deposits and restore function. The shoulder joint's anatomy is intricate, and calcific tendinopathy primarily affects the supraspinatus tend

Synchronous endometrial/cervical and ovarian/fallopian tube carcinoma: a genome-wide mutation analysis.

In this study, we explored the genomic underpinnings of synchronous endometrial and ovarian/fallopian tube carcinoma (SEOC) and synchronous cervical and ovarian/fallopian tube carcinoma (SCOC), focusing on their clonal relationships to discern whether these malignancies represent dual primary tumors (DPTs) or have metastatic origins. We established a cohort comprising 54 SEOC patients and 7 SCOC patients. After selection, 17 patients (12 SEOC and 5 SCOC) underwent comprehensive analysis via whole-exome sequencing. The study encompassed a diverse array of histological subtypes, including high-g

The Effect of Direct Oral Anticoagulants on Gastric Mucosa and Helicobacter Pylori Prevalence in Dyspeptic Patients: A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study.

Background and aim Although direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are widely used and their side effects related to bleeding at various body sites have been well studied in the literature, less is known about their local impact on gastric mucosa. Some studies suggest that the higher risk of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding associated with DOACs may be due to their direct local anticoagulant effects on the gastric mucosa. In this study, we aim to evaluate whether this potential local effect has a favorable outcome on the gastric mucosa and the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (HP).  Materials and m

Sociodemographic disparities in gastric cancer and the gastric precancerous cascade: A population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Gastric carcinogenesis is a multistep process initiating with chronic gastritis and progressing through atrophy, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia to carcinoma. This study aims to comprehensively investigate sociodemographic disparities in each stage of gastric carcinogenesis and estimate to what extent the inequalities could be ascribed to risk factors of gastric cancer (GC). METHODS: We used the baseline data from a community-based study in China's high-risk areas, totalling 27094 participants. Gastric mucosa status was ascertained by endoscopy and biopsies. Berberine for gastric cancer prevention and treatment: Multi-step actions on the Correa's cascade underlie its therapeutic effects.

Gastric carcinoma (GC) is a complex multifactorial disease occurring as sequential events commonly referred to as the Correa's cascade, a stepwise progression from non-active or chronic active gastritis, to gastric precancerous lesions, and finally, adenocarcinoma. Therefore, the identification of novel agents with multi-step actions on the Correa's cascade and those functioning as multiple phenotypic regulators are the future direction for drug discovery. Recently, berberine (BBR) has gained traction owing to its pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-ulcer
