Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species promote cancer metastasis and tumor microenvironment immunosuppression through gasdermin D.

Although recent research has established that gasdermin D (GSDMD), a factor that drives pyroptosis, is essential for cell death and inflammation, its involvement in cancer metastasis has yet to be elucidated. In this study, GSDMD was significantly increased in lung neutrophils at the metastatic stage from a murine orthotropic 4T1 breast cancer model. Moreover, the N terminal domain from cleaved GSDMD exhibited a positive correlation with increased mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mROS) and serum high mobility group box 1 (HMGB-1) levels. Mechanistically, mROS inhibition significantly sup

Dorsal root ganglion stimulation for multifactorial refractory foot pain: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Dorsal root ganglion (DRG) stimulation has emerged as an effective, targeted neuromodulation therapy for refractory pain of the lower extremities, particularly in the setting of complex regional pain syndrome. However, preliminary evidence supporting DRG for other applications, such as peripheral neuropathy or refractory nociceptive pain, is currently limited to patient populations with discrete pain sources. We report a case of chronic, multifactorial foot pain successfully treated with a right S1 DRG stimulation after failure of multiple prior interventions including physical the

Metabolically stable apelin analogs: development and functional role in water balance and cardiovascular function.

Apelin, a (neuro) vasoactive peptide, plays a prominent role in controlling water balance and cardiovascular functions. Apelin and its receptor co-localize with vasopressin in magnocellular vasopressinergic neurons. Apelin receptors (Apelin-Rs) are also expressed in the collecting ducts of the kidney, where vasopressin type 2 receptors are also present. Apelin and vasopressin interact at the brain and renal levels to maintain body fluid homeostasis by regulating diuresis in opposite directions. Apelin and angiotensin II have opposite effects on the regulation of blood pressure (BP). Angiotensi

Three-dimensional acetabular reorientation during periacetabular osteotomy: an intraoperative navigation method using an external fixator for periacetabular osteotomy.

INTRODUCTION: Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is an effective procedure for treating acetabular dysplasia. However, limited visual control of the acetabular position during surgery may result in under- or overcorrection or changes in acetabular version resulting in residual dysplasia or femoroacetabular impingement. Thus, we wanted to develop a simple and straightforward navigation method that provides information about acetabular correction in all three planes during surgery. METHOD: Intraoperatively, acetabular coordinates are shown in coronal, sagittal, and transverse plane by two p

Decision Transformer-Based Efficient Data Offloading in LEO-IoT.

Recently, the Internet of Things (IoT) has witnessed rapid development. However, the scarcity of computing resources on the ground has constrained the application scenarios of IoT. Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites have drawn people's attention due to their broader coverage and shorter transmission delay. They are capable of offloading more IoT computing tasks to mobile edge computing (MEC) servers with lower latency in order to address the issue of scarce computing resources on the ground. Nevertheless, it is highly challenging to share bandwidth and power resources among multiple IoT devices

Effect of oral multispecies probiotic on wound healing, periodontitis and quality of life on patients with diabetes.

OBJECTIVE: Hard-to-heal (chronic) wounds are common in patients with diabetes and are associated with a decrease in quality of life (QoL). Pathogenic bacteria often colonise hard-to-heal wounds and hinder the healing process which poses a high risk for (systemic) infections. In this study, we aim to prove that probiotics are capable of displacing human pathogenic bacteria, ameliorating inflammation and positively influencing the microenvironment/microbiome of skin and mucosa. METHOD: In this pilot study, patients with diabetes and hard-to-heal wounds with a duration of 2-120 months received a

"Through-stent enterography": first experience with a novel technique intended to improve safety in endosonography-guided gastroenterostomy.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Endosonography-guided gastroenterostomy (EUS-GE) is a novel technique to manage symptoms of gastric outlet obstruction. Major challenges are the high mobility of intestinal loops and the transient loss of endosonographic visibility during the puncture. This can lead to stent misdeployment, which can be associated with potentially fatal adverse events. By injecting contrast medium through the guidewire channel of the lumen-apposing metal stent application system under fluoroscopic guidance, a positive enterogram can confirm the position of the stent inside the intestinal lu
