A clinical, biochemical and histomorphometric study of non-decalcified bone with measurement of calcification rate was carried out in 10 patients with sclerotic bone metastases from prostatic carcinoma. 3 patients (2 male, 1 female) presented with symptoms of thyrotoxicosis associated with elevated blood-levels of thyroid hormone and a markedly depressed thyroidal uptake of 131-I. RATIONALE: Thyroid nodule rupture is a rare complication after microwave ablation (MWA). The ultrasonographic characteristics, clinical course, treatment, or prognosis of thyroid nodule rupture after ablation have not been systematically summarized. Three cases with thyroid nodule rupture after MWA were reported in this study, including the characteristic ultrasound images before ablation and after rupture. Meanwhile, we investigated the etiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the rupture. These findings can provide references for the future clinical practice.

We describe a delayed, life-threatening complication in a boy operated on using the Nuss-procedure 2 months earlier. On admittance he was in shock with cardiac tamponade. An immediate needle aspiration of blood from the pericardium was done before a median sternotomy. The Nuss-bar was removed, and we identified a 1.5-cm laceration in the adventitial layer of the ascending aorta as the source of bleeding.
