OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of gallium salts on bone metabolism in osteoporosis rats caused by tretinoin.
METHODS: After duplicating osteoporotic model of rats by using tretinoin, we observed the metabolism of blood, urine and bone in vivo. The rats were divided into control group, osteoporosis group, estrogen treated and gallium chloride treated group. The indexes of bone metabolism and related indexes in serum and urine were observed after 60 days of treatment. In the same time, we observed the dynamic effect of 30 days and 60 days of treatment.

BACKGROUND: Neonates affected by hyperprostaglandin E(2) syndrome (HPS) present with severe polyuria. Both urinary losses as well as prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors may precipitate acute renal failure (ARF).

Submerged aquatic macrophyte species Potamogeton crispus L. (curlyleaf pondweed) and Ruppia maritima L. (widegeongrass) were examined for selenium accumulation from agricultural drainage water in the field and under laboratory conditions. High concentrations of chloride and sulfate salts were found in the drainage water of the constructed wetland at Tulare Lake Drainage District, Corcorn, California. Samples of P. crispus and R. maritima collected from the field, had similar plant-tissue Se concentrations, but the rhizomes accumulated significantly greater amounts of Se than the shoot tissues.

We investigated the effects of endothelin-1 (ET-1) on pressor responses to norepinephrine (NE) in perfused rat mesenteric arteries. Perfusion of the arteries with a subpressor dose of ET-1 (3 x 10(-10) M) for 15 min markedly enhanced the pressor responses to NE (10(-6) and 3 x 10(-6) M), and this effect was significantly prevented by BQ788 (10(-6) M) but not by FR139317 (10(-6) M). In DOCA-salt hypertensive rats, exogenous ET-1 had little effect on pressor responses to NE.
