Previously the biomechanical properties of the bioabsorbable poly-L: /D: -lactide (PLDLA) 96/4 suture were found suitable for flexor tendon repair. In this study, three PLDLA suture strands were bound together parallel to each other side-by-side to form a triple-stranded bound suture and the modified Kessler tendon repair was performed. This paper reports a series of comparative tests in vitro, that examined how meniscectomy and meniscal allografting affected tibio-femoral joint contact pressure. Knees were loaded in axial compression and pressure maps obtained from the lateral compartment using Fuji Prescale film inserted below the meniscus. This was repeated after meniscectomy, and then after meniscal allografting with fixation by a bone plug for the insertional ligaments, plus sutures. PURPOSE: To report a new complication of 360 degrees suture trabeculotomy attributable to subretinal suture misdirection.

METHODS: Retrospective chart review.
RESULTS: A 5-month-old female with bilateral congenital glaucoma underwent uncomplicated 360 degrees suture trabeculotomy in the right eye. In the left eye, a scleral flap was created and dissection to Schlemm's canal was achieved. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of retention sutures on the postoperative course of patients after major abdominal operations.
DESIGN: Prospective, randomised study.
SETTING: Teaching hospital, Germany.
SUBJECTS: 95 patients who were at increased risk of wound failure after major abdominal operations.
INTERVENTION: Conventional mass closure either with (n = 44) or without (n = 51) reinforcement by wire retention sutures.

To expand the application of mitral valve reconstruction for pure mitral regurgitation due to diffuse leaflet prolapse, we have employed artificial chordae implantation using GPEP strips in 9 patients and 4-0 PTFE sutures in 20 patients since November 1986. The total number of GPEP strips implanted was 20 with a range from 1 to 4 (average 2.2 per patient) and 45 pairs of PTFE sutures with a range from 1 to 6 (average 2.3 per patient). Fifty consecutive unselected patients with anastomoses to the left side of the colon were studied. Each patient had an anastomosis constructed with a single layer of continuous 4-0 polypropylene. On the seventh postoperative day, or sooner, a water-soluble contrast enema was obtained to evaluate the integrity of the anastomosis. Two patients developed radiographic and clinical evidence of anastomotic leakage, and one patient developed a late pelvic abscess and colocutaneous fistula. The documented leak rate of 6 percent attests to the safety of this method of colonic anastomosis.

The Type I (keel chest) deformity is corrected by bilateral resection of the costal cartilages, transverse osteotomy of the sternum, detachment of the xiphoid process, and resection of the lower end of the body of the sternum. BACKGROUND: Multiple techniques for patellar fixation with classic solid suture anchors (SAs) in medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction have been described. Fixation of the graft to the patella with all-soft suture anchors (ASAs) has not been studied. Purpose/Hypothesis: To evaluate the biomechanical performance of 2 different MPFL patellar fixation techniques: ASA fixation and SA fixation. We hypothesized that the ASA group would show no statistical difference in the ultimate failure load and stiffness compared with the SA group.

The article describes a non-standard surgical approach to the treatment of a tumor with a predominant lesion of the membranous wall of the trachea. The method of circular resection with wide excision of the membranous wall of the trachea and replacement of tissue deficiency with an autopericardial flap is used. This approach, in comparison with the standard technique, allowed to significantly reduce the tension of the anastomosis sutures, ensured a smooth postoperative period and relapse-free survival for more than 7 years in the context of combined treatment of adenoid cystic tracheal cancer.

The T-line hernia mesh is a synthetic, polypropylene mesh with mesh suture extensions designed to prevent anchor point failure by evenly distributing tension across the soft tissue. Previous studies have demonstrated the success of onlay ventral hernia repair with T-line hernia mesh, but retrorectus applications of the mesh have not yet been characterized. Adolescents with osteochondral loose bodies after a first-time patellar dislocation are most commonly treated with surgical intervention. However, the ideal method of managing a concurrent medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) disruption is still unknown. Recent evidence suggests high failure rates are associated with primary MPFL repair. The purpose of this Technical Note is to describe an alternative surgical technique for managing acute first-time patellar dislocations by using high-strength suture augmentation of the MPFL.

Bladder stones account for 5% of all urinary stone disease and can develop on a foreign body, such as a misplaced suture, eroded surgical mesh, or ureteral stent. In this case study, the authors present a patient with bladder stones associated with pubic hairs introduced during a monthly indwelling Foley catheter change. Clinicians have an important role in instructing patients on the use of proper technique and hygiene practices during urethral catheterization to minimize the potential for urinary complications.

Comminuted osteoporotic olecranon fractures in the elderly are relatively common. Open reduction and internal plate fixation is a frequently used treatment option. In highly comminuted osteoporotic bone, fixation may be tenuous leading to an increased risk of fixation failure with loss of reduction and displacement of fracture fragments. The off-loading triceps suture technique is a load-sharing mechanism to decreases distraction forces caused by the extensor mechanism on comminuted osteopenic olecranon fracture fragments managed with plate fixation.

Fixation of proximal humerus fractures with precontoured, fixed angle devices has improved operative management of these difficult injuries, particularly in patients with osteoporosis. However, recent data has revealed that fixation with these constructs is not without complications, particularly screw cut-out and loss of reduction. Multiple strategies have been developed to decrease the number of complications. We offer a surgical technique combining suture augmentation of the proximal humerus with locked plate fixation utilizing short screws.
