Nonsurgical Management of Perforating Internal Root Resorption in Maxillary Invaginated Lateral Incisor Using Cold Ceramic.

The clastic activity results in internal root resorption (IRR), characterized by the progressive destruction of the surrounding dental hard tissues. This case reports perforating IRR in an advanced stage on a maxillary dens invaginated lateral incisor in a 13-year-old patient who completed orthodontic treatment 6 months ago. The perforating IRR was initially detected by periapical radiographs, and CBCT was used to accurately diagnose with full detail, enabling treatment planning and the identification of the extension and regions affected in the resorption lesion. A conservative internal appro

Impact of Intracanal Medicaments on Cell Cycle, Viability and Differentiation of Human Apical Papilla Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hAP-MSCs).

This in vitro experiment evaluated cell cycle, viability and osteogenic differentiation of human apical papilla-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hAP-MSCs) by intracanal medicaments used in regenerative endodontic treatment. Apical papilla tissues of immature extracted tooth roots were digested, trypsinized and resuspended as a single cell suspension stained with CD146, CD73 and CD90 antibodies. Results revealed that apical papilla tissue harbours hAP-MSCs, and they can be cultured and characterised. Low-concentration intracanal medicaments (0.025 mg/mL) were less cytotoxic compared to higher co

Advances in Regenerative Dentistry: A Systematic Review of Harnessing Wnt/β-Catenin in Dentin-Pulp Regeneration.

Dentin pulp has a complex function as a major unit in maintaining the vitality of teeth. In this sense, the Wnt/β-Catenin pathway has a vital part in tooth development, maintenance, repair, and regeneration by controlling physiological activities such as growth, differentiation, and migration. This pathway consists of a network of proteins, such as Wnt signaling molecules, which interact with receptors of targeted cells and play a role in development and adult tissue homeostasis. The Wnt signals are specific spatiotemporally, suggesting its intricate mechanism in development, regulation, repai

Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) Mistaken for Acute Apical Abscess.

The objective of this case study is to report on the diagnosis and treatment of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), which was originally misdiagnosed and mistreated as endodontic disease. A patient was referred for worsening odontalgia despite root canal therapy on tooth No. 19 and a course of oral antibiotics. Examination demonstrated slight buccal swelling and tenderness in the left masseter and a 7-mm diameter area of exposed bone on the mandibular left lingual torus. Further history-taking revealed prior bisphosphonate therapy for metastatic breast cancer. MRONJ was identi

A Case of Cerebral Air Embolism After Dental Procedure.

Air embolism is a rare and life-threatening event that occurs when air enters the cardiovascular system, usually secondary to iatrogenic vascular procedures. We present a 58-year-old woman who underwent a dental procedure (devitalization of a tooth) under local anesthesia, with a sudden onset of coma during manipulation and documentation of air in the vessels of the right frontal convexity sulci. After cerebral air embolism was confirmed, she received hyperbaric oxygen therapy, with resorption of the gas, but clinically she developed a super-refractory status epilepticus with a persistent coma

OCCLUSAL TRAUMA OF IMPLANT-SUPPORTED METAL-CERAMIC CROWN: A CASE REPORT.

In this article there is a clinical case of occlusion trauma of implant-supported metal-ceramic crown for prosthetics of central incisor. Its uniqueness is the possibility to save dental implant after acute occlusion impact, which was strong enough to break ceramic facing of fixed denture, but not able to destroy bone and implant components. The occlusion force located at the incisal edge of the crown induced a reverse torque to the implant and did not result in its failure or bone resorption. In a year after repeated fixed prosthetics, the results of clinical examination proved absence of any

Invasive cervical resorption of central incisor during orthodontic treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is a relatively rare type of ERR (External Root Resorption), in which a localized resorption begins in the cervical area of the tooth, below the epithelial junction and above the ridge crest. OBJECTIVE: Describe the clinical case of an 11-year-old boy with no dental trauma history, presenting moderate crowding and ectopic eruption of the maxillary right central incisor. He had been undergoing orthodontic treatment elsewhere, and his family was dissatisfied with the results. DESCRIPTION: A new treatment was indicated, which included rapid maxil

A large-scale study of treatment methods for foreign bodies in the maxillary sinus.

Recently, reports regarding a foreign body in the maxillary sinus have considerably increased, with the majority being iatrogenic cases resulting from dental treatment. This study involves an extensive review of the Japanese literature, including 112 papers from 1978 to 2017. These papers documented total 407 cases of a foreign body in the maxillary sinus. Among the 392 cases for which treatment details were available, the Caldwell-Luc approach was used for 216, the alveolar approach for 116, extraction using nasal endoscopy for 15, and extraction using oral endoscopy for eight. Examination and clinical care of the patient with neuropathy.

Examination of a patient with peripheral neuropathy starts with careful questioning of the patient about the history of symptoms and signs and of a possible familial disorder. Several steps are required during examination of the patient with peripheral neuropathy: first the pattern of neuropathy and site of lesions should be determined: roots, nerve trunks, focal, multifocal, length-dependent generalized polyneuropathy, the type of nerve fibers predominantly affected, the association with trophic changes and autonomic dysfunction, the course of the disease ranging from acute inflammatory polyn

Roles of oral bacteria in cardiovascular diseases--from molecular mechanisms to clinical cases: Implication of periodontal diseases in development of systemic diseases.

Periodontal diseases, some of the most common infectious diseases seen in humans, are characterized by gingival inflammation, as well as loss of connective tissue and bone from around the roots of the teeth, which leads to eventual tooth exfoliation. In the past decade, the association of periodontal diseases with the development of systemic diseases has received increasing attention. Although a number of studies have presented evidence of close relationships between periodontal and systemic diseases, the majority of findings are limited to epidemiological studies, while the etiological detail

Cementum attachment protein/protein-tyrosine phosphotase-like member A is not expressed in teeth.

Cementum is a highly specialized connective tissue that covers tooth roots. The only cementum-specific protein described to date is the cementum attachment protein (CAP). A putative sequence for CAP was established from a cDNA clone isolated from a human cementifying fibroma cDNA library. This sequence overlaps with a phosphatase-like protein in muscle termed the protein-tyrosine phosphatase-like member A (PTPLA). To clarify the nature of CAP/PTPLA, we cloned the homologous rat protein and determined its sequence. The rat protein shared 94% sequence identity with the human protein. On Northern

Quantification of neural protein in extirpated tooth pulp.

Because the pulp tissue extirpated during root canal procedures might serve as a valuable resource with which to assess underlying mechanisms of persistent pain, we sought to determine whether standard Western blotting techniques could be used to quantify neural proteins in pulp extirpated from teeth with irreversible pulpitis. Pulp harvested from healthy intact teeth extracted for orthodontic reasons was used for comparison. The neural marker PGP9.5 was detectable in all samples tested. A membrane enrichment protocol enabled detection of even low abundance, high molecular weight proteins such

The effect of partial damage to the enamel-related periodontium combined with root resection on eruption of the rat incisor eruption.

Previous work has indicated that the enamel-related periodontium (ERP) has a role in the eruptive process of the rat lower incisor. By combining partial damage of this tissue with resection of the odontogenic organ, we examined the effect of the damage on subsequent incisor eruption. The connective tissue of the enamel-related periodontium was regenerated in less than 2 weeks, showing morphology close to normal. The injured part of the enamel organ was neither regenerated nor repaired, and a cement-like tissue, continuous with the true acellular cement, was formed on the denuded enamel. Before
