Lipophilic extracts of Ginkgo biloba L. leaves were tested for their possible role on rodent models of depression and stress. Lipophilic extracts of Ginkgo leaves (LEG) at (50 and 100 mg/kg, p.o.) exhibited dose dependent, significant antidepressant activity in the behavioral despair test and learned helplessness rodent model of depression. We studied the reliability of biologic indices for monitoring perchlorethylene (PCE) exposure at low environmental solvent concentrations. Environmental monitoring was performed by personal sampling, biologic monitoring by measuring PCE in alveolar air (PCE-Alv), blood (PCE-B), and urine (PCE-U) in 26 low-exposed dry-cleaners. The fatty acid spectrum of lipids was examined in the expired air condensate (EAC) in health persons and in Chernobyl accident liquidators. Exposure to radiation even to small dosage may cause changes in the fatty acid composition of lipids in the surfactant of the lung and promote to the occurrence of inflammatory respiratory diseases. The changes found in the EAC fatty acid lipid spectrum, which may reflect the status of a pulmonary surfactant, may be used to identify patients with respiratory diseases and be borne in mind in treating these patients.

This study aimed to prove the similarity of the composition of non-aromatic Croatian naphthalane (NAN) with brown naphthalane (BN), which is used in the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.
