Three-dimensional assessment of mandibular and glenoid fossa changes after bone-anchored Class III intermaxillary traction.

INTRODUCTION: Conventional treatment for young Class III patients involves extraoral devices designed to either protract the maxilla or restrain mandibular growth. The use of skeletal anchorage offers a promising alternative to obtain orthopedic results with fewer dental compensations. Our aim was to evaluate 3-dimensional changes in the mandibles and the glenoid fossae of Class III patients treated with bone-anchored maxillary protraction. METHODS: Twenty-five consecutive skeletal Class III patients between the ages of 9 and 13 years (mean age, 11.10 ± 1.1 year) were treated with Class III i

First results from the high-resolution mouseSPECT annular scintillation camera.

High-resolution single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging in small animals tends to use long imaging times and large injected doses due to the poor sensitivity of single pinhole gamma cameras. To increase sensitivity while maintaining spatial resolution, we designed and constructed a multipinhole collimator array to replace the parallel hole collimators of a Ceraspect human SPECT brain scanner. The Ceraspect scanner is composed of an annular NaI(TI) crystal within which the eight pinhole collimators (1-mm-diameter holes) rotate while projecting nonoverlapping images of the obj

Artificial Intelligence for Lacrimal Drainage Disorders: Advances in Diagnosis, Management, and Clinical Translation.

PURPOSE: Lacrimal drainage disorders (LDDs) are common in oculoplastic practice, but their diagnostic evaluation continues to depend on tests that are variably subjective, operator-dependent, and at times invasive. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI), spanning conventional machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), radiomics, and large language models (LLMs), has shown increasing potential to enhance screening, diagnostic classification, lesion localization, and decision support in LDDs. This narrative review summarizes the current evidence on AI applications in the lacrimal field, p

Reexpansion of atelectasis caused by use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) before radiation therapy (RT).

INTRODUCTION: Although radiation therapy (RT) is an effective treatment for malignant atelectasis, its accurate delivery is challenging because of difficulty differentiating between tumor and atelectatic lung. Furthermore, reexpansion of lung during treatment repositions tumor and normal structures necessitating replanning to ensure treatment accuracy. Facilitating lung reexpansion before initiation of RT may improve RT treatment accuracy, spare normal tissue, and reduce obstructive symptoms. We report a case of reexpansion of right upper lobe (RUL) atelectasis caused by use of continuous posi

Mandibular Buccal Bifurcation Cyst (MBBC): A New Microsurgical and Guided Tissue Regeneration Approach-A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Mandibular buccal bifurcation cyst (MBBC) is an inflammatory cyst that typically manifests during early childhood and is positioned buccal to the furcation area of the mandibular first molars. Clinically, it manifests as a buccal inclination of the crown without associated symptoms or dental vitality loss. The diagnosis is confirmed through a combination of clinical, radiological, surgical, and histological findings. CASE REPORT: A case of a 9-year-old boy with MBBC is presented. Molar 4.6 exhibits a buccal inclination of the crown and a palpable, nonpainful hard swelling on the v

Conservative Management of a Large Periapical Lesion Using Decompression Technique: A Case Report.

The management of extensive periapical lesions poses a significant challenge in endodontic therapy due to their potential cystic nature, anatomical proximity to critical structures, risk of cortical perforation, and complex infection dynamics. This report presents a successful case of a large through-and-through periapical lesion managed conservatively via decompression. Initial periapical radiographs revealed poor-quality root canal therapy and a large radiolucent lesion associated with a maxillary lateral incisor. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging confirmed a through-and-through l

Combined Deep Learning Techniques for Mandibular Fracture Diagnosis Assistance.

Mandibular fractures are the most common fractures in dentistry. Since diagnosing a mandibular fracture is difficult when only panoramic radiographic images are used, most doctors use cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to identify the patient's fracture location. In this study, considering the diagnosis of mandibular fractures using the combined deep learning technique, YOLO and U-Net were used as auxiliary diagnostic methods to detect the location of mandibular fractures based on panoramic images without CBCT. In a previous study, mandibular fracture diagnosis was performed using YOLO learn

Can Botulinum Toxin-A Contribute to Reconstructing the Physiological Homeostasis of the Masticatory Complex in Short-Faced Patients during Occlusal Therapy? A Prospective Pilot Study.

The physiological homeostasis of the masticatory complex in short-faced patients is too robust to be disintegrated and reconstructed due to the powerful masseter muscle. This study innovatively introduced the botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) into the field of dental occlusal treatment, providing a novel and minimally invasive therapy perspective for the two major clinical problems in these patients (low treatment efficiency and high rates of complications). In total, 10 adult patients with skeletal low angle seeking occlusal treatment (age: 27.0 ± 6.1 years; 4 males and 6 females) were administered 3
