Implementing a whole blood pilot program in a rural trauma system: A feasibility, utilization, and cost analysis.

BACKGROUND: Hemorrhage is a leading cause of preventable trauma death, particularly in rural settings where prolonged transport times delay resuscitation. Low-titer O+ whole blood (LTOWB) is increasingly favored for prehospital resuscitation due to its combined oxygen-carrying and hemostatic properties. However, logistical challenges and concerns regarding waste and cost have limited its implementation in rural trauma systems. This study evaluates the feasibility and clinical utility of a prehospital LTOWB pilot program at a rural Level I trauma center. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, si

Billing Disparities in Home Sleep Testing: The Role of Sleep Medicine Board Certification and Practice Setting.

Background: The financial burden of diagnostic testing for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) represents a substantial barrier to treatment initiation, with cost-related access disparities disproportionately affecting the low-income and underinsured population. Home sleep testing (HST) offers a cost-effective diagnostic alternative, yet economic patterns across provider types remain unclear. This study assessed whether board-certified sleep medicine provider (BCSMP) status is associated with differences in provider-billed HST charges and evaluated how organizational and payment contexts influence t

Protocol for a digital health-assisted cluster randomised controlled trial to prevent obesity in preschool children in Jinan, China.

INTRODUCTION: Early childhood obesity has become a major public health concern globally. The preschool period (ages 4-6 years) represents a critical window for obesity prevention due to its long-term implications on growth trajectories and behaviour formation. However, existing evidence for effective interventions targeting this age group remains limited and inconsistent, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Peking University-Smart Monitoring and Responsive Technology for Early Childhood Health is a cluster-randomised controlled trial designed to evaluat

Expanding enhanced influenza vaccines programs for adults aged ≥65 in the Nordic region predicted to improve public health and health system resilience.

BACKGROUND: Influenza continues to pose a significant recurring challenge for public health and healthcare systems. Influenza infection can cause short-term complications leading to hospitalisations, or death, and may require post-discharge care at home or in nursing facilities. Additionally, the economic burden of influenza is substantial and impacts healthcare resources and budgets. Enhanced influenza vaccines (EIV) have been shown to provide better protection against influenza infection and downstream clinical outcomes. However, access to EIVs remains limited for older adults in the Nordic

Quality of life in older adults with urinary incontinence and its impact on the stigma-care needs network: latent profile and network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence is highly prevalent in older adults, imposing substantial physical, psychological, and economic burdens. Stigma and unmet care needs, particularly psychosocial support, are widespread and interact negatively, significantly compromising quality of life. However, the complex interrelationships among stigma, care needs, and quality of life remain unclear. This study employs network analysis to elucidate these intricate connections, identify key intervention targets, and inform precise strategies to improve outcomes for this population. PURPOSE: To explore quality-

Perceptions and treatment seeking for abnormal uterine bleeding among women of reproductive age group in rural North India: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), affecting 3–30% of women of reproductive age, can lead to serious physical complications such as anaemia and infertility, and also negatively impacts mental well-being, social participation, and economic productivity. Despite this, treatment-seeking remains low due to poor health literacy, cultural taboos, limited autonomy in decision-making, and inadequate access to female healthcare providers. METHODS: The qualitative study was conducted between September—November 2022 in Sahupura Village, under Primary Health Centre (PHC) Dayalpur, Faridabad, Har

Prevalence and radiographic features of cyst-like lesions in German Warmblood horses presented for pre-purchase examination.

INTRODUCTION: Cyst-like lesions (CLLs) are frequently detected during radiographic examinations of equine limbs. They may represent a potential risk factor during pre-purchase examination (PPE) and are of considerable clinical and economic importance, as they may lead to negative purchase decisions. While affected horses may develop lameness, incidental findings have also been reported. The goal of the study was to describe the prevalence, location and radiographic characteristics of CLLs in a group of sound German Warmblood horses. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 3863

Prevention of postoperative complications with negative pressure wound therapy after complex breast cancer surgery: a study protocol of a randomised controlled trial (TPN-SEIN).

BACKGROUND: Complex breast surgery, including immediate breast reconstruction and oncoplastic procedures, is increasingly performed to optimise oncologic and aesthetic outcomes. Postoperative wound healing complications remain a major concern, particularly in high-risk patients. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been shown to improve wound healing in various surgical fields. However, its effectiveness in oncologic breast surgery remains insufficiently studied. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of NPWT in reducing wound healing complications in complex breast cancer surgery. ME

When systems fall apart: the performance of the nursing station model in communities with populations over 2,500 peoples.

Primary healthcare (PHC) providers working in Manitoba First Nations (FNs) communities have anecdotally reported that the workload they face does not match staffing levels, leaving the care they provide comparable to a walk-in clinic, especially in communities with a population over 2,500. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the capacity of Nursing stations to deliver PHC services in FN communities with populations greater than 2,500, compared to smaller FN communities with populations less than 2,500, by analysing markers of chronic kidney disease (CKD) quality care among individuals li
