PURPOSE: Breast reconstruction with expander/implants is generally discouraged in patients who have undergone radiation therapy. However, not every patient treated with radiation develops sequelae severe enough to preclude the use of prostheses. BACKGROUND: Standardized surgical technique, the use of ultrasonic dissection and neuro- monitoring, have reduced morbidity in thyroid surgery, so that aesthetic aspects and endoscopic or minimally-invasive thyroid surgery have become more important for the patients.
METHODS: We report on minimally-invasive and endoscopic procedures with either a cervical or extracervical access. Besides current literature we discuss our own results.

Enchondroma is the second most common benign bone tumour and the most common tumour affecting the bones of the hand. In the hand, they are most frequently found in the proximal phalanges. The case presented here is that of an expansive enchondroma in the distal phalanx of the thumb, which is rare. By operative treatment (curettage, reduction plastic and cancellous bone allografting) we were able to correct the deformity of the distal phalanx and the thumbnail almost completely, as well as improving the stability and achieving a good cosmetic result.

Several authors have reported the advantages of adipofascial flaps. We describe a series of flaps based exclusively on the perforator of the peroneal artery. This is an axially patterned distally based adipofascial flap useful for small and medium-sized defects over the distal fibula, lateral malleolus, the Achilles region or the dorsum of the foot. It can be an excellent alternative to fasciocutaneous or free flaps, with minimum donor-site morbidity, good cosmesis and an excellent functional result.

The authors present a case of successful replantation of a totally avulsed ear in a 37-year-old patient, using a termino-terminal arterial anastomosis on the superficial temporal artery. As no suitable vein could be identified in the amputated part, they relied on leech therapy and systemic anticoagulation for venous drainage. Despite an 18-hr ischemia, the ear survived completely.

The sternal cleft is a rare congenital anomaly resulting from a fusion failure of the sternum, generally observed at birth and asymptomatic. Surgery is indicated to protect the heart and major vessels from trauma, to improve respiratory dynamics, and for aesthetic reasons. We observed 2 neonates for a superior and medial thoracic mass. The defect involved the upper two thirds of the sternum. The surgical operation for both patients consisted in the primary closure of the defect.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The authors report their experience of digital pulp reconstruction by free toe pulp transfer. Fifteen patients were treated with the lateral great toe hemipulp.
